well, today I am going to buy one of my childhood favorite shows, so I decided to share it with you all. I remember when Showtime picked it up when I was a little girl in the early 80’s and I was hooked. I watched it every time it was on … even if I had to fight my older brother to get to - haha
Robin of Sherwood, retitled Robin Hood in the US, was an acclaimed 1980s British television series, based on the legend of Robin Hood. It was made by HTV in association with Goldcrest, and ran from 1984 to 1986 on the ITV network. The show starred first Michael Praed then Jason Connery as two different incarnations of the title character, and was created by Richard Carpenter. Unlike previous adaptations of the Robin Hood legend, Robin of Sherwood combined a gritty, authentic production design with elements of real-life history and pagan myth.
There were three series, comprising a two-hour opening episode and 24 hour-long episodes, although the pilot is sometimes screened as two one-hour episodes. It was shot on film, and almost entirely on location, mostly in the north and west of England; HTV West in Bristol was the base of operations.
Together with Richard Lester’s offbeat 1976 film Robin and Marian, Robin of Sherwood is one of the most influential treatments of the core Robin Hood legend since The Adventures of Robin Hood, featuring a realistic period setting and, somewhat contradictorily, introducing the character of a Saracen outlaw.
Michael Praed played Robin Hood (or Robin of Loxley) in the first two seasons. His “Merry Men” consisted of Will Scarlet (played by Ray Winstone), who used to be known as Will Scathlock, before changing his name when his wife, Elena, was raped and trampled to death with horses by some Brabancon mercenaries; Little John (played by Clive Mantle); Friar Tuck (played by Phil Rose); Robin’s adopted brother Much (played by Peter Llewellyn Williams); the Saracen Nasir (played by Mark Ryan); and Lady Marion (played by Judi Trott). As in the legend, Robin is opposed by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Nickolas Grace) and Sir Guy of Gisburne (Robert Addie), as well as the Sheriff’s brother Abbot Hugo (Philip Jackson) (representing all the greedy abbots in the legends). Robin is assisted by Herne The Hunter (John Abineri), who sometimes appears as a forest spirit representing the powers of light and goodness, and sometimes as a mortal man.
At the end of the second season, Robin of Loxley is killed and Robert of Huntingdon (played by Jason Connery, whose father Sean Connery had played Robin in Robin and Marian) replaces him as Robin Hood. During the course of the season, the new Robin discovers that he is the half-brother of his nemesis Guy of Gisburne (an idea suggested to Carpenter by the fact that both actors had blond hair). However, due to the show’s cancellation at the end of the third season this particular story arc was never resolved.
here is my omage to Robin of Sherwood … just a little fan video for you all to enjoy
okay, I figured I wrote twice abouyt how much I like Shun Oguri so I figured that I might as well write a little about him as well
most of this is pasted info from DramaWiki and Wiki - pedia
Name: 小栗旬 (おぐり しゅん)
Name (romaji): Oguri Shun
Nicknames: Ogushun, Guri & Ogurin
Profession: Actor
Birthdate: 1982-Dec-26
Birthplace: Kodaira, Tokyo, Japan
Height: 184cm
Weight: 74kg
Star sign: Capricorn
Blood type: O
Family: Older brother (Ryo) and older sister
Talent agency: Tristone (http://www.tristone.co.jp/)

Shun Oguri (小栗 旬) is a Japanese actor, who gained a rise in popularity by starring in the hit TV drama, Hana Yori Dango, and its sequel. His most recent role in TV drama is in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e as Sano Izumi, the lead role. He also won an award for his movie Crows Zero.
Shun made his way into the acting industry not because he knew he had a great talent for it and not because he was pursuing a passion of his, but because he was an avid admirer of Uchida Yuuki, a Japanese actress. He loved her acting and was a very big fan of hers, and because he wanted to meet her, he joined theater and acting classes. He admits he didn’t really like theater or the acting classes, but somehow, his ambition to meet his idol — and the pretty girls in his class — kept on driving him. Now, Shun says acting is his life and wouldn’t want it any other way.
His first debut role was as the bullied and abused child from the drama Great Teacher Onizuka in 1998, when he was about sixteen years old. His acting attracted him great attention and from there, he moved onto bigger roles. His breakthrough role is arguably Rui Hanazawa from Hana Yori Dango, though his first lead role in a drama was as the famous Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan. Oguri has more than enough talent for lead roles, but he has stated that he actually prefers playing the supporting roles. Besides acting, he is also a DJ. He is hosting a radio show called All Night Nippon. An impressive actor, he stars in roles such as a deaf person in Summer Snow, a desperate virgin in Stand Up!!, Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) as quiet and cool Rui Hanazawa, and Gokusen as the gangster “wannabe” Uchiyama Haruhiko (Uchi). Recently, he starred in the drama Hanazakari no Kimitachi e as Sano Izumi.
Oguri’s best friend is Takashi Tsukamoto, an actor, model, and singer. Oguri and Tsukamoto acted together in a drama — Stand Up!!. Since starring in Hanazakari no Kimitachi e together, Oguri and Toma Ikuta are very good friends. In interviews, both Oguri and Ikuta have said that they call and mail each other very often.
Oguri got the role as Rui because Jun Matsumoto told the producers that if they didn’t give Shun the role, he would not act as Domyouji. In real life, Matsumoto and Oguri are good friends, all the way from the Gokusen days.
Whenever he gets two consecutive days off from work, he likes to go surfing.
Oguri was one of the seiyū in the Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa together with his brother Ryo Oguri.
Shun Oguri, who played Noboru Yoshikawa, also played as Haruhiko Uchiyama in Gokusen. In GTO he is the one being bullied, but in Gokusen he is one of the bullies in class.
The listeners of All Night Nippon decide on a nickname for Shun which was Shunkerbell. When Jun Matsumoto guest on the show he thought it has something to do with Tinkerbell.
He is left-handed.
He can speak English, but not fluently, though he did express his want to do so.
He took 12 takes in a kissing scene with Toma Ikuta in Hanazakari No Kimitachi E, but still, the best kiss was with Horikita Maki in the last scene of the drama.
Shun has Pectus Excavatum, a disorder in the chest which makes a part of it sunken.
Despite his talent in acting, Oguri Shun prefers supporting roles in movies / TV dramas but he loves to act as the lead character in stage plays.
Hobbies: Computer, cars, and surfing Read more »

‘The drama is based on the popular manga of the same name by Nakajo Hisaya. Horikita plays the protagonist Ashiya Mizuki, a Japanese girl in the U.S. who one day sees the young athlete Sano Izumi compete in high jumping on television. She begins to idolize him. Sano gets injured one day in America while trying to help Mizuki escape from some gangsters. He stops high jumping ever since. Mizuki blames herself for the incident and decides to go to Japan and help Sano find his love for high jumping. However, Izumi goes to an all-boys school, so Mizuki disguises herself as a boy in order to meet with him again.’

okay … has anyone had a moment like my day at work?
I have been working with this one woman who, well in lack of other words is … well in my oppinion, a bitch. This woman has in the last few days, refered to a chinese man protecting his son as ‘a chink who doesn’t speak english‘. Yet today she told me about god. ……….. let me say this one time … I do NOT believe in god and I am totally happy and complete in my disbelief ^__^v Having a rude woman telling me about ‘him’ after racist, derogitory statements is, well, christian right? Okay, if this is the model of a wonderful god believing christian …. then … huh?

I have finally got around to watching the japanese show ごくせん (Gokusen).

‘The story of a young, idealistic teacher who enters Shirokin Gakuen with hopes of making a difference in the students’ lives. However, Yamaguchi Kumiko is in for a rude awakening when she finds that she will be the homeroom teacher of 3-D, the hardest class to maintain in the school. The students have multi-colored hair, sloppy uniforms, and show absolutely no respect to her. The leader of the class, Sawada Shin is lazy but bright and shows some interest in Yamaguchi when he notices that she is very different from other teachers. The students try to bully her to make her quit, but their attempts don’t get them very far.
What the class and the rest of the school does not know is that Yamaguchi Kumiko is actually the 4th generation heir to the Ooedo Group, a notorious yakuza clan. Even though her family would like her to take the title of Ojou when her grandfather dies, they have accepted the fact that Yamaguchi would rather be a teacher.
Eventually, the students learn to respect their quirky teacher because of her devotion to them, and even give her a nickname: Yankumi.’ ~ dramawiki
