A variety of mystery is involved, the discussions lists are abuzz on some kind of “deal” that Ghibli and Disney are doing that goes beyond the Buena Vista distribution….
Ghibli is the Studio behind Spirited Away, Tototo and Kiki and has always made blockbuster anime movies, Disney distributes them and given Disney’s acquisition of Pixar, is this something along those lines?
Anyone knows anything about this?

I know less about it than you do, I think - what kind of buzz have you been hearing on the discussion lists?

Pixar didn’t decline the deal, so it’s old news, the mailing lists have been buzzing about a deal that Disney and Ghibli did but nobody knows what it’s about just that “there is a deal” ….

I hope Ghibli stays independent though, there is something beautiful about their animations that I worry will over commercialize in the hands of a Disney

Miyazaki would never let disney aquire Ghibli studios. He has always lived up to his word in every aspect of his business. And his business has been preserving the best of the pre-ww2 japanese morality and culture, while inpiring through the beauty of youth and nature. He is one of the many japanese people who wish to preserve japanese culture and one the few successful enough to actually refuse any offer disney could make. ^u^

I’d love that if it were true….but he is getting old and who will continue that noble legacy?
