世界衛生組織將在本周發表一個報告，指出在過去的40年裏，醫生提供給母親的“嬰兒標準體重表”是錯誤的。這個錯誤的標準使大部分嬰兒吸收了過量的營養，從而使現代嬰兒長大後得糖尿病、心臟病的機率大大增加。
《錯誤標準誤導母親》
長期以來，很多母親都是根據醫生提供的“嬰兒標準體重表”來餵養孩子，一旦孩子達不到“嬰兒標準體重表”的標準體重，母親就會爲孩子增加營養，比如讓孩子吃添加了很多營養物質的配方牛奶，或者提前讓孩子吃固體食物。
這個“嬰兒標準體重表”在很多國家已經使用了四十多年，但世界衛生組織稱，他們經過研究發現，這個“嬰兒標準體重表”是建立在錯誤的研究數據之上的。因爲在設立“嬰兒標準體重表”時，當時的研究人員使用的是吃配方牛奶的嬰兒數據，而吃配方牛奶的嬰兒體重比正常吃母乳的嬰兒要重很多，因此這些數據並不準確。
根據英國兒童生長發育基金會提供的數據，英國母乳餵養嬰兒在一周歲時的平均體重是22磅，而完全吃配方牛奶長大的嬰兒在一周歲時的平均體重爲23磅。母乳餵養嬰兒長得慢的原因是，這樣的嬰兒能夠主動調節自身所需的營養。參與制訂世界衛生組織新標準的兒童醫學專家梅塞德斯·德·奧尼斯說：“母乳餵養嬰兒的新陳代謝速度較慢，他們的睡眠方式也跟吃配方牛奶的嬰兒不同。而吃配方牛奶的嬰兒則吸收了過多的不必要營養，結果導致他們肥胖。”

按照過去的“嬰兒標準體重表”來檢查，一般吃母乳的嬰兒都會顯得瘦小，因此母親就會錯誤地爲嬰兒增加不必要的營養。健康專家認爲，這種不正確的餵養方法，就是目前全世界都出現兒童過度肥胖的根源之一。根據英國政府的一項調查，英國25%的初中學生都超重，這個數字是10年前的一倍。超重兒童長大後患糖尿病和心臟病的機率要比正常人大很多。
據報道，世界衛生組織將在本周發布一個新的“嬰兒標準體重表”，其數據來源是全球6個國家的8000個純母乳餵養的嬰兒。這個“嬰兒標準體重表”提供的是母乳餵養嬰兒的標準體重。世界衛生組織在制訂新的“嬰兒標準體重表”時，采用的嬰兒樣本都是最健康的嬰兒，他們都是純母乳餵養，他們的母親都不吸煙，而且都能得到良好的醫療服務。
