December 18

We went to Narita (then Hokkaido) by a JAL flight at 10:35am. As we went there with kids, we had the privilege to go through the immigration quicker. We even met Antony Leung and his family (and two maids too). We then did the domestic terminal check-in at 3:30pm, and went to Chitose at 6:40pm. The flight was delayed because there were too many flights. We went to Sapporo by JR at 9:15pm. It was already 10:00pm when we reached Gracery Hotel Sapporo. My eldest kid was with me by then so we didn’t visit the Noodle Street.  We went to Lawson and bought some food instead. I didn’t see any snow in Sapporo and I really felt disappointed.

A small accident happened – my AIGLE Gore-tex shoes got broken! The next day, I went to Tomamu Resort. My sister brought an extra pair of shoes with her so she lent it to me! They even bought me another pair of fur boots in Sapporo the other day.

JAL flight-shaped telescope. We sat at the upper deck.

I do not find Okinawa’s transportation system to be very good.  Though I have a driver license, I’m afraid I’m not good enough to drive here.  Actually, it would be better if I rent a car and drive here; it will save me lots of time.

You know, taxi drivers in Okinawa often offer tourists a good price for a ride, hopefully the tourists will accept it. When I was in Manzamō, a taxi driver offered his taxi to us for a whole day’s rent.  He priced the rent for 14,000 Yen (this price is more or less the same as the bus fare and we have two large suitcases so of course we accepted).  We then bargained with him and asked to reduce the price to 10,000 Yen and surprisingly, he agreed!

The first stop for that day is the aquarium in Ocean Expo Park – its entrance looks grand and nice!

Go downstairs and you’ll find another entrance.

Actually I am not so happy with my plan for Okinawa, because I didn’t do a lot of research (I didn’t buy a guide book, I simply used online resources)  I missed Zanpamisaki because of this!

The only thing I am happy with is the hotel I stayed at for three nights. It is the ANA Hotel - Manza Beach Hotel & Resort. (http://www.anamanza.co.jp/)

In the beginning of 2008, I’ve been planning to travel to a place where I can enjoy beach and sunshine - options include Koh Samui, Saba and Pulau Langkawi. Because of my work and health, I haven’t made a visit up until now.

I’ve done lots of research over the Internet. They are all nice places to go to, so it will be tough to make a decision.  After hours of research,  I found that Okinawa is not a bad place to stay! I’ve been in Japan on 2005 and 2007 and I love this country a lot!  I’ve chosen a hotel in Okinawa and it is much more expensive than those I usually choose (I usually choose those below 10,000 per night - double).

I didn’t plan a tight schedule - I want to relax

In the past, Hong Kong people have to stop at Taiwan, in order to go to Okinawa. But now, we have Hong Kong Express to go directly to Okinawa (it is not a very good airlines though).

October 4, 2008 - we arrived in Okinawa at 8p.m., so we couldn’t do much on day one. People all took photos around when we were taking the shuttle bus, but I didn’t. I am it regretting now…

The international airport of Okinawa is much smaller than its domestic one!

We stayed in Toyoko Inn at the first night, and the next day, we went into a resort hotel. There are four Toyoko Inn in Okinawa but we chose the one closest to the Naha bus stop.

Here are some photos:

Toyoko Inn

The main transport in Naha is this single-track tram, you can buy 1, 2, or 3 day(s) pass.

This is day 9 - we take the train (07:00 - 09:54) from Hakodateto to Hachinohe, and then another one (10:05 - 13:08) from Hachinohe to Tokyo. It is in the afternoon now, we unpack our luggage and play around in Tokyo. Actually we are quite familiar with Tokyo, especially the JR line. A lot of friends asked me to buy things for them, and we think that we won’t have enough time here in Tokyo; therefore we change our plan and spend one more day here!

I didn’t take many pictures in Tokyo - shopping only

This is day 11 - We are going to Karuizawa today. In the morning we take the Shinkansen (08:16 - 09:27) to Karuizawa. We don’t have much details about this place, so we join a local tour again (which is recommended by a Hong Kong girl).

This is the leaflet of the tour.

The tour:

(1) Karuizawa Station

In 2005 I visited Hokkaido once and I missed it so much thereafter. I’d like to visit Furano in summer, but I’ve already spent too much! After two years, I thought maybe it’s time! So, let’s visit Japan for another 14 days! Why not?

I took a domestic flight to fly from Tokyo to Sapporo instead of by train. I  didn’t bring my Sony V1 camera, but my new Nikon D70s Kit set + Sigma 20-300 instead!

It was late July and I was going to Hokkaido South during this summer time!

Day 1 was for transport only and in day 2, I visited Sapporo!

(2) Odori Park

(3) The wonderful Beer Festival!

Price of Yen is so high that I don’t think I will do a lot of shopping this time. Yet, January is the month of sales - this gives me some expectation!

Years ago I went shopping in Japan with Karen, she said, "Don’t think too much, simply put all of the merchandises in the shopping bag and decide it later!" This is classic. And finally I chose too much and had to put some back…you know they were 50%-70%off!

But this is not the case today. I can’t see many good products here, even in "Comme Ca Ism". Maybe it is because of the bad economic environment? Anyway I simply bought some clothes for Adrian.

I have to recommend "Lalaport" shopping center to you all - It is as big as three Festival Walk’s! Actually you need one whole day to visit the shopping center and for window shopping you use half day already! There are lots of fashionable items and I bought something for Adrian to wear!

Adrian seldom faces the camera with a smile! Although we didn’t visit Disney Sea, it is still good that Adrian is happy in Disney store. He faces the camera with smile and it is a pleasant surprise!

Price of Yen keep rising and I found that I spent quite a lot of money on "food" in Japan. For example, a bowl of noodle or rice with pork chop costs me HK$80-100! Fortunately, Daddy and I found a restaurant in Ueno and it provides buffet of HK$200 per head! We chose Sabu Sabu last time and it provided us with different kinds of meat, snow crab and dessert! So we decided to go there again with grandparents and Adrian in this trip!

Oh my! The restaurant doesn’t offer snow crab this time, unless we pay extra! Anyway we still have meat, dessert and drinks! It is still a low price for buffet in Tokyo!

Frankly, the food is not excellent, but no food is bad in Japan you know! It is much better than eating noodle or pork chop everyday! And it offers ice cream too! That’s why I go there again!

In Shibuya you can find a lovely sushi place where you can have sushi of 100Yen each! I have tried the food there, the quality is good with its unbeatable price! If you are going there to try the sushi too, don’t forget to order some sea urchin sushi that is also at the same price!

You can buy cheaper things at night in Japan’s supermarkets.

In fact people like to buy food in supermarket after they have worked for one whole day.

For us, we just played for one whole day and come here to see what we can eat later tonight.

It is fun to see people choosing good sushi too, and especially when the staff is putting a 50% sticker on the pack.

haha~really fun XD XD

In the first day we came here late and good sushi packs were all sold.

We only bought this pack (see images).

Original price for this is ¥1,000, and we get it with 50% off! Cool~
