December 20

I would meet my sister at the Sapporo Station at 11:30a.m., so we took the train at 10:00a.m.  We didn’t make a reservation until the day before yesterday, so our seats were not good ones. We didn’t sit together and my husband had to sit with our kid at one seat.  We arrived at 11:29a.m. and my kid said he left his pillow at Villa Sport (he used that pillow since he was a baby). But we were in Tomamu, what could we do? Then we went to the Tourist Information Center, and asked the staff to call Villa Sport for us. After 5-7 minutes, they called back and said they found the pillow. They will send it back to us (Gracery Hotel)! I met my sister and we went to Otaru together. Everytime I go to Otaru, it’s really cold, so I had a scarf prepared for my kid. When we arrived though, it wasn’t that cold (7.5 Degree Celsius). We took some photos with the canal (which had no snow) and then went to Masazushi to eat some yummy sushi! In my opinion, they have the best sushi in Japan!

We took the shuttle bus to go back to Tomamu JR Station

More snow than yesterday!

It is day 8 -  I’m on the way to Tokyo! In this morning I have to take the train from Sapporo to Hakodate, and it will take more than three hours. Actually, Hakodate is not the must-go place for me in this trip, it is just a stop right between Sapporo and Tokyo. I’ve been Hakodate before, and this time I will visit one of the new three travel spots - Onuma Quasi-National Park.

Weather is bad and it is raining again! Not sure if it is because of the bad weather, I think that it is not a really great place to visit.

I brought my notebook with me (I did it too in the last two times I traveled Japan) as it is more convenient for me to share my photos with my family members. Actually I have a portable device to save my photos, but I feel securer to keep an extra copy.

Besides, it’s good to communicate with other people via MSN, as I can do it at night in the hotel room. Some hotel’s broadband service allows customers to have video & audio conference, but some is voice only. It does save some fee for long distance calls!

Because of this, my wife chats with other people via MSN every night, and one of her friends said that she likes the Hello Kitty mug we bought in Otaru two days ago. Therefore, we go to buy it in the next morning! After that I rush to the train and I am soooo tired! Fortunately I’ve got a seat after a while.

We are going to Asahikawa in the afternoon. We arrive at the zoo at 2pm. We have to hurry up!

In 2005 I visited Hokkaido once and I missed it so much thereafter. I’d like to visit Furano in summer, but I’ve already spent too much! After two years, I thought maybe it’s time! So, let’s visit Japan for another 14 days! Why not?

I took a domestic flight to fly from Tokyo to Sapporo instead of by train. I  didn’t bring my Sony V1 camera, but my new Nikon D70s Kit set + Sigma 20-300 instead!

It was late July and I was going to Hokkaido South during this summer time!

Day 1 was for transport only and in day 2, I visited Sapporo!

(2) Odori Park

(3) The wonderful Beer Festival!

Day 2: Chiba+Drum Festival

One of the reasons for us to visit Tokyo is that my brother is studying here! His school is in Tokyo, but he lives in Chiba. We need two hours to get to there. Anyway, my brother’s Host Mama invites us to visit Chiba and she even prepares lunch for us! Yeah!

We don’t want to be late so we arrived 30 minutes earlier, and my brother also arrived early to meet us at the station. This station is not special, but we take a picture here happily.

Host Mama prepared Udon for us and after lunch we headed to Narita! We didn’t know Chiba is not close to Narita and we spent almost one hour to get to there. The Host Mama becomes a tour guide and brings us to a street where we can buy Japanese food and snacks such as sausages and rice balls. This place is really like what I saw in the Japanese animations when I was a kid.

Many visitors here!

Today is Tananbata - the star festival in Japan.

According to the folklore, Orihime and Hikoboshi gets to meet once a year on this very romantic day.

To celebrate this day, many Japanese wear their colorful yukata to attend the many street festivals - amongst which the Sendai Tanabata Festival is the biggest of it all.  Also, Japanese often write their wishes on a small piece of paper, called the tanzaku, and hang them on bamboo.  With the nice summer breeze, these colorful paper ‘floats’ in the air creating a nice and romantic scene:

Many play with fireworks on this day too!  If you have a chance, you must visit Japan during this time to feel this romantic festival in the midst of the summer months!
