I’d like to share my experience about accommodation in Japan. I tried some that is no more than 10,000Yen/per night (double). The hotels actually don’t have high ratings and without a great view in rooms, but I think they are comfortable enough.
In 2005, I did quite a lot of research and found the popular Toyoko Inn – My first choice in Japan now. You can find Toyoko Inn all over Japan, and the rooms look more or less the same. A lot of Hong Kong people like to stay in Toyoko Inn, but the only drawback is the time of check in/out. It provides non-smoking room, and you can book a room online at its website (Chinese/English).
I’ve stayed in these Toyoko Inn:
- Sapporo - near Sapporo JR Station.
- Hakodate - this one is a bit old.
- Tokyo - there are two in Ikebukuro.
- Okinawa - near Naha Station.
Let’s see some photos now! This one is the one located at Tokyo. It looks good.

The lobbies provide free Internet service. Free breakfast is also provided every morning.

This is the room, yet I didn’t take a photo of the bathroom.

They were recruiting international members, and you may enjoy some privileges if you are a member.

Kakodate - It is not expensive to book a room in Harbour View Hotel, actually it is similar to Toyoko. It is near JR station; even better than Toyoko. Its name is Loisir Hakodate now. (http://www.loisir-hakodate.com/) (http://www.loisir-hakodate.com/)
Wakayama - Hotel Granvia may not provide non-smoking room, that’s why I won’t choose this one anymore. (http://www.granvia-wakayama.co.jp/)

Tokyo Inn is not good enough – especially the bathroom. And it takes 10-15 mins to walk to the JR station. (http://www.tokyoinn.net/)

Last but not least, Roynet Hotel in Sapporo looks new, and it’s really close to Sapporo JR Station. It provides free internet service (video call works too), good bathroom, etc, yet it doesn’t provide free breakfast. Its name is now Richmond Hotel. Amazing! That room looks just like the one I had at the Shinigawa Prince Hotel!! I didn’t mind how small it was because I only went there to sleep and take a bath! Only difference, no free breakfast, no free internet (had to pay, but less than 100y)and the room cost more than 10,000y a night! XP
Thank you for your lovely review and insight about the Tokyo Inn, I think I will become a member!
