Living a Daily Cosplay
Friday, September 7th, 2007Was just browsing through SanrioTown and stumbled upon Nanao Chan’s blog. Okay, I have to admit that cosplays can be pretty fun for the people who partake in it. What I mean is, it’s not everyday you get to portray your favorite character, be it anime, comic or movie (heck, whatever makes your boat float, right?) It takes a lot of planning and hard work to actually pull off successfully portraying your “idol”. Take this guy for example: (thanks to this guy’s blog for the pictures :D)

TO THIS:
Isn’t that amazing?! The belts, the gloves, the CAPE(!!!!) even the gun are all PERFECT. This guy went through great lengths to make his transformation COMPLETE and accurate.
So what makes a person take that extra mile to pay homage to a character/person? First, it could be sheer adoration or maybe that person/character is worth emulating (well at least on the outside, right?). Maybe that person/character has had a profound effect on that aspiring cosplayer to the point of that cosplayer telling himself “I WANT TO BE LIKE HIM/HER!!!”
Anyway, I too live my life paying homage to one, if not THE only person that has had a considerable effect on me. He doesn’t meld in the shadows, he doesn’t slay dragons, undead or armies, heck, he isn’t even Japanese made. He is a real person, his only power is to rock out and reduce people to tears, his weapon is a Gibson Explorer and believe me, he slays with his music. He shushes critics and haters and gives most people reason to live. He is Claudo Sanchez, the “axe”-wielding, mind-blowing, trend-setting, vocal-range glorifying, bale-haired frontman of Coheed & Cambria.
Skill-Made-Flesh:
Well, the hair is not up to snuff. My hair is big, believe me, but I don’t know how he got it to be THAT big. Gawd. He and his band are the reasons why I got into music in the first place. These guys are amazing. If you want to listen to more of their stuff, visit Coheed & Cambria’s Myspace account.
So there you have it. People do crazy stuff to emulate someone worth emulating but the important thing is you should never lose YOUR OWN IDENTITY. Whatever happens, the more important thing is being yourself and not try to pretend that you’re someone else because nothing blows more than losing track of who you truly are.
