Living a Daily Cosplay

Friday, September 7th, 2007

Was just browsing through SanrioTown and stumbled upon Nanao Chan’s blog. Okay, I have to admit that cosplays can be pretty fun for the people who partake in it. What I mean is, it’s not everyday you get to portray your favorite character, be it anime, comic or movie (heck, whatever makes your boat float, right?) It takes a lot of planning and hard work to actually pull off successfully portraying your “idol”. Take this guy for example: (thanks to this guy’s blog for the pictures :D)

FROM THIS:

TO THIS:

Isn’t that amazing?! The belts, the gloves, the CAPE(!!!!) even the gun are all PERFECT. This guy went through great lengths to make his transformation COMPLETE and accurate.

So what makes a person take that extra mile to pay homage to a character/person? First, it could be sheer adoration or maybe that person/character is worth emulating (well at least on the outside, right?). Maybe that person/character has had a profound effect on that aspiring cosplayer to the point of that cosplayer telling himself “I WANT TO BE LIKE HIM/HER!!!”

Anyway, I too live my life paying homage to one, if not THE only person that has had a considerable effect on me. He doesn’t meld in the shadows, he doesn’t slay dragons, undead or armies, heck, he isn’t even Japanese made. He is a real person, his only power is to rock out and reduce people to tears, his weapon is a Gibson Explorer and believe me, he slays with his music. He shushes critics and haters and gives most people reason to live. He is Claudo Sanchez, the “axe”-wielding, mind-blowing, trend-setting, vocal-range glorifying, bale-haired frontman of Coheed & Cambria.

Skill-Made-Flesh:

Well, the hair is not up to snuff.  My hair is big, believe me, but I don’t know how he got it to be THAT big. Gawd. He and his band are the reasons why I got into music in the first place. These guys are amazing. If you want to listen to more of their stuff, visit Coheed & Cambria’s Myspace account.

So there you have it. People do crazy stuff to emulate someone worth emulating but the important thing is you should never lose YOUR OWN IDENTITY. Whatever happens, the more important thing is being yourself and not try to pretend that you’re someone else because nothing blows more than losing track of who you truly are.

The Underground Scene

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Just dug up old pictures from my rock-rocking days. Each picture contains stories of crazy people, nincompoopery, beer-infused madness and great music. The underground people (or tropa bands) will forever be treasured in my heart. And of course, you always have to look for great music because the mainstream is too mundane. If you were going to hide something, safest place would be underground. Ergo, great music = underground :D

Upper left: Macky of Concrete Sam. Upper right: Holding On rocking out. Lower left: some guy balancing on his cello while playing. Lower right: Glenn and Chris of Concrete Sam

Upper left: Pete of Too Late The Hero. Upper right: Ariel and Chi. Lower left: My nephews Chikito and Luigi (with Miggy in the background). Lower right: My family, In The Absence of Bo.

Upper left: Steve and Iann with Manong guard. Upper right: Cainta’s Most Wanted - Joe and Steve. Lower left: Iann taking the Nestea plunge (well, he’s plunging upwards…. what?) Lower right: Espiritu vs Tomacruz

Upper left: Melvin. Upper right: Pete. Lower left: Pakoy. Lower right: Steve.

Well, that’s SOME of what I’ve dug up. Underground is where it’s at, boy! Rock out boys.

Changes

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Rukia has posted another melon-scratcher for us to ponder on. This time, she asked her readers if it’s possible for a person to actually CHANGE personalities.

Well, this question has always been a moral dilemma. Changing personalities means becoming something you’re not because your personality is something that’s inherent. Well, okay, you CAN change it but it takes a lot of soul searching. Are you doing it because you really want to? Are you changing because you know that what you’re doing is wrong or are you just changing so that you can conform or fit in? It’s like forcing a hardcore hiphop man to go to a hardcore metal concert. Oil and water, lamb and fish. It just doesn’t feel right.

Believe me, a lot of people change who they are so they become socially “acceptable”. Come on, if people don’t like you for who you are then it’s their loss but then again, that doesn’t mean that if you’re mean, you should continue to be mean. By a global, moral and universal point of view, being evil is wrong so you MUST do your best to curb it so that you will be a more peaceful person. Changing for all the wrong reasons is a large pitfall and must be avoided AT ALL COSTS.

Well, in any case, if you want to change for the better (the moral and universally-accepted good) then great! Good for you! If you’re doing it to impress a crowd out of climbing the social ladder, then too bad, you’re a rotten person. :( Of course, the people that you love and love you back should encourage your change for the better because even though they already love you for who you already are, a little added value won’t hurt now would it? :D

What do YOU think? :D

Gaze upon a spectacle of pure skill

Monday, September 3rd, 2007

Coheed & Cambria is probably one of the BEST bands in the world right now. They’re nothing like any band out there today. Their sound is their own, their concepts are fresh. No band can hold a candle to these guys. Anyway, this is their new song from the upcoming tongue-tying album Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV: Volume II - No World For Tomorrow.
