How to Butcher a Song

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

I was mulling around youtube this morning searching for new videos to rock out to. All was going rather swimmingly until my proverbial plane was shot down in a blazing, laugh-infused glory.

LOL

The vocalist took the whole concept of a "show" to a whole new level. Maybe he realized that his band sucks so he decided to show the crowd how to NOT use a microphone. He did everything BUT sing well.

Ugh.

How could you have the guts to butcher a song like this:

Retards.

Personally, if you even plan on covering a song (make sure it’s from a rock-out-loud band), please, please, PLEASE give it justice. PLEASE. Not only will you garner the respect and admiration of the band’s fans but it will also give you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!

Retards.

The Moon

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

The moon is truly a sight to behold. It always is, with his borrowed faint silver glow casting soft light over everything. The moon is always so magical — and ever so tragic.

Can you imagine how deeply in love the moon is with the sun? He glows because of the sun’s rays, reflecting her glory. Even if the sun is not there, the moon remains bright because of the sun.

Sadly, though, that’s the only fate the moon has. No matter how wildly and how passionately he loves the sun, no matter how much he pursues, the sun will always follow her own course through the sky, and the moon will only be following it, the distance never fading between them. The moon is even too shy that he hides his insecurity in varying degrees. His scars… his shame.

And if these two celestial bodies ever meet in the sky, a "disaster" occurs — an eclipse.  Children are told not to look at their fated meeting because they might go blind. Their meeting is always a messenger of ill fate. What they do not know is that it is the only time the moon can be with the sun.
I wonder if the sun knows that the moon longs for this moment, albeit a bad one? Perhaps the sun doesn’t. The sun is, after all, a sight to behold. The moon, though, is nothing but a rock, floating in the emptiness of space.

I wonder when the moon will tire out. When will he stop chasing after the sun? He knows very well that, like days, like months, like years, there will always be a distance between them that they cannot control.

I hope the moon finds his own glow, even if he knows he has none.

So how is this "rock out"? Well, thinking about stuff DOES make one’s MIND rock-out. :D

A rock-out mind = rock-out existence.

Coffee vs Alcohol Rock Out

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Rocking is hard, yo. And more often than not, most rockers lack a lot of sleep because of too much hard rocking the night before.

Hmmm… Coffee… the only LEGAL addictive SUBSTANCE hahaha!

If you think about it, coffee’s a drink that seems to encourage a lot of accessories around it:

coffee cake

coffee table

coffee table book

coffee mug

coffee ice cream

coffee break

Alcohol, is another weapon of choice for rock gods. Say what you want about alcohol, but not only are there not a lot of optional accessories, alcohol actually helps you get rid of things:

family

home

job

driver’s license

sanity.

In fact, at a certain point, the only thing you have to remember to get, is more alcohol, and maybe a new mug for people to put their change in.

Perhaps a coffee mug?

Sounds of the weekend!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The past weekend was the HOTTEST of all time. I was lying on the bed for around 3 hours doing absolutely NOTHING.

NOTHING!

It SOOOO hot that I could see the heat waves wafting from my carpet. If I had a camel in my room, Lawrence of Arabia would be at home. Ugh.

Anywho, during that ridiculous afternoon, I was listening to two songs:

Coheed & Cambria - Crossing the Frame

Home… a silence between glares
That stutters words misleading
Here… give me all you got
With one shot sent to lend me
No… here across the grass,
Between the glass
I know… you’re not the one
I left to wait here, helping
I… I left in a sudden rush
And never said why
You… couldn’t know
That I had no goodbyes

But I wish that you were
I’m spying on you, Newo
The way that you would’ve been if
I stayed here at home
I’m giving it up, Newo
How important I could’ve been to you

Press the steps I take to cross your door frame if
You decide to answer when my fist rings hello
I… I left in a sudden rush
And never said why
You… couldn’t know
That I had no goodbyes

But I wish that you were
I’m spying on you, Newo
The way that you would’ve been if
I stayed here at home
I’m giving it up, Newo
How important I could’ve been to you

Casting quarters into wells that hold our dreams
You won’t believe me… if I told you so
Casting quarters into wells that hold our dreams
You won’t believe me… I wouldn’t if you told me so

But I wish that you were
I’m spying on you, Newo
The way that you would’ve been if
I stayed here at home
I’m giving it up, Newo
How important I could’ve been to you

The bridge part of the song is the money shot for me. For the uninitiated, if you look at the lyrics, the one in BOLD is the bridge. Moving on, when I heard the bridge for the first time, everything shrunk, and it found myself in rock-out euphoria. It’s hard not to find yourself lost in Claudio’s angelic voice while having the keyboard synth in the background and then having the whole band barge in and yank you back into reality. If I died and went to Heaven, I’ll bet the farm that I’m going to be met by the bridge part of this song played on a loop.

AFI - This Time Imperfect

I cannot leave here, I cannot stay
Forever haunted, more than afraid
Asphyxiate on words I would say
I’m drawn to a blackened sky as I turn blue

There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I’d show a smile but I’m too weak
I’d share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me

I cannot stay here, I cannot leave
Just like all I loved, I’m make believe
Imagined heart, I disappear
Seems… no one will appear here and make me real

There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I’d show a smile but I’m too weak
I’d share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me

I’d tell you how it haunts me
I’d tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
I’d tell you how it haunts me
Cuts through my day and sinks into my dreams
You don’t care that it haunts me

There are no flowers, no, not this time
There will be no angels gracing the lines, just these stark words I find
I’d show a smile but I’m too weak
I’d share with you, could I only speak, just how much this hurts me
Just how much this hurts me
Just how much you…

I’ve been listening to his band for a long, long time and this song is one of my all-time faves. The arrangements, Davey Havok’s deep, the LYRICS, send you to a dark place within your memories that you don’t want to visit. Why listen to this, you ask? BECAUSE THIS SONG KICKS SO MUCH BUTT!

The Rock Out is… BURNED OUT

Right now, this is all I want to do:

Good Lord I need to detoxifyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

A Little Bit of Love from Thrice

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Woohoo! Another entry about Thrice (always good). Anyway, yesterday was PROBABLY my most emotional day EVER. Just take my word for it… it was very harrowing. Threw up a couple of times.

Don’t worry, devotees of Mr. Rock Out, I’ll be fine. Still wrestling with demons. I’ll be fineeeeee.

Anyway, this song really helped me get through the night (still no sleep, though).

I just put this video up a couple of posts back, but but… I need to show it again. I lahvvv eeet!

Thrice - Stare at the Sun

I sit here clutching useless lists,
keys for doors that don’t exist
I crack my teeth on pearls
I tear into the history
Show me what it means to me in this world

Yeah, in this world

‘Cause I am due for a miracle
I’m waiting for a sign
I’ll stare straight into the sun
And I won’t close my eyes
Till I understand or go blind

I see the parts but not the whole
I study saints and scholars both
No perfect plan unfurls

Do I trust my heart or just my mind
Why is truth so hard to find in this world
Yeah in this world

‘Cause I am due for a miracle
I’m waiting for a sign
I’ll stare straight into the sun
And I won’t close my eyes
Till I understand or go blind (till I understand or go blind)

I know that there’s a point I’ve missed
A shrine or stone I haven’t kissed

A scar that never graced my wrist
A mirror that hasn’t met my fist
But I can’t help feeling like I’m
Due for a miracle

Tuesday is the new Monday?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

For the past 3 weeks, I’ve noticed that Mondays are weird. In the real world, Monday is the day where the arteries of the metro are clogged even before the sun rises. I really don’t get the rationale behind it. People say that Mondays are clogged because all the people that went to the province for the weekend and with the new week, they scamper back to their homes and re-insert themselves into the daily grind.

Hence the traffic and the crowded streets.

But for 3 weeks already, Mondays have been un-Monday like. The trains weren’t as clogged, the traffic was lenient. It was WEIRD!

Like today, for example, everything was crowwwwwdeeeeeddddd!!!!! It was ridiculous!! It took me 20 minutes before getting a chance to get into the train (an arduous endeavor, mind you)

How is this related to being Mr. Rock Out? Well, I don’t know… I just felt like ranting. Plus, my writing powers are out of whack lately.

27 Things Girls Don’t Know About Guys

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

It’s unnutterably accurate… it’s SCARY.

1.–Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
2.–Guys go crazy over a girl’s smile.
3.–Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him
4.–Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest.
5.–Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they’re still loved.
6.–Don’t talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.
7.–Guys get jealous easily.
8.–Guys are more emotional than they’d like people to think.
9.–Giving a guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh…nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he’ll assume he did something wrong and he’ll obsess about it trying to figure it out.
10.–Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.
11.–A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.
12.–Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.
13.–Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn’t notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.
14.–Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if one guy’s confused, then we’re all confused.
15.–When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he’s just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."
16.–If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn’t happen that often, so when it does, you know something’s up.
17.–If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you’re with your boyfriend, he’s probably jealous and likes you.
18.–When a guy tells you that you are beautiful, don’t say you aren’t. It makes them want to stop telling you because they don’t want you to disagree with them.
19–When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he’s definitely thinking something.
20–Guys don’t like girls who punch harder than they do.
21–A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
22–Don’t be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.
23–Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.
24–Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
25–If you are going to reject a guy, just do it. Don’t say they are like a brother or just good friends, it just hurts even more. Tell them that you aren’t interested in a relationship and they will respect you.
26–Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.
27–When a guy sacrifices his sleep and health just to be with you, he really likes you and wants to be with you as much as possible.

Tag-athon

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Of all people, I was tagged by kt_sanctuary for this "7 random things about me." Pshaw. Anyway, as a man who doesn’t fail to please that ones he wants to please, I will cave in and do it. :D

7 Random Things About Moi

1. If I really, reallly like movie, (if it has an awesome script, greeeeeeat acting and *maybe* memorable songs) I will so memorize the script and re-enact every possible scene AND keep watching and watching and watching and watching it AND I will never, ever, ever, get tired of it. Examples of these movies are Snatch, School of Rock, ANYTHING WITH WILL FERREL IN IT, Matchstick Men, 10 Things I Hate About You, Back to the Future, etc, etc, etc. As far as animated movies go, the Disney movies of my generation is the BEST (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan etc). No 3D-animated claptrap for me. Oh and chickflicks are <3.

2. I’m a guy who loves shoes and clothes. I’d go hungry to buy shoes and nice clothes. However, I hate clothes who blatantly brandish their logo on almost 3/4 of the shirt. ICK.

3. I.LOVE.FOOD. Except bitter gourd. eww.

4. Music is my life. However, I’m the most biased guy when it comes to music. A girl once told me that "you’re not a true musician if you’re not open to ALL kinds of music." I retort with "you’re a TRUE musician if you know what you like and what to listen to and you definitely know what kind of music abhors you."

5. I hate talking to stupid people. I’m sorry. I know it sounds super-hyper-mega condescending but have you ever tried to converse with a grown person with the vocabulary of a coffee table? (Well, maybe a coffee table has MORE conversing power because it gets to "read" the coffee table books that sit on top of it….)

6. There are only 3 things in life that matter: Writing, Video Games and Love (under it are music, family, friends, and well LOVE etc).

7. Take note… here we go… I’m the WORLD’S BIGGEST SUGARBALL. Why? Because I am.

Meet the Feathers!

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Again, another Coheed & Cambria rave/rant. With their rise to superstardom, it is obvious that they now have the means and FUNDS to fuel the flames of their fanbase. With their release of their first video from their new album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV - Volume 2: No World for Tomorrow, people are now wondering when their next video is coming out. For me, the best bet would be the song Feathers - it’s within the "radio duration" (3-5 minutes), it’s got no swear words, it’s catchy, AND it’s got a freakin’ nice guitar solo… possibly the best solo in their whole arsenal.

And then… they drop something like THIS.

feathers header

oh but it gets better…

much much better…

If you visit the site, there’s a video about the family. Could this be what Co&Ca’s next video would look like? Will the video be in black and white?

Ohhhh

The plot thickens.
