WoW Toys

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Honestly, I think that one of the deepest, richest and most interesting video game lore out there is that of Warcraft’s. Ever since I was a kid, after playing the first ever Warcraft game, I feel so cheated every time I play with my toys because I so wanted to have those knights, footmen and grunts at my fingertips.

Something solid.

Something concrete.

Something to play with in real life. (well as far as playing Warcraft in real life goes =/)

And then, WoW comes out and the urge to hold at least a part of that world grows so large that it starts to nibble at you.

SLOWLY….

They released some World of Warcraft figures but nothing really seemed to leap out of the shelf.

You know what I mean?

A warlock? Puh-lease… not my cup o’ tea.

Not a fan of dwarves either.

All hope was lost until I stumbled upon THIS beauty:

Oh sweet moses…

A BLOOD ELF PALADIN

This one isn’t half bad either:

Let me digress a bit, these toys CANNOT even compare to what I’m really excited about:

THIS is Marcus Fenix of Gears of War fame and YES, that is a chainsaw. (Actually, that’s a beautiful combination of high powered rifle and chainsaw).

Looks like I’m experiencing another toy renaissance.

The Rock Out Returneth

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

First off, to my loyal fans, I apologize for my absence. The loss of noise and musical intensity that made these bloghalls ever so bland and mundane is the result of me plowing through a huge, HUUUUUGE project at work.

Man, that was a hard sentence.

Aaaaaannnnywhooo. What have you guys been up to?

It’s been a rough two weeks with work and all but ironically, this has been one of the best ever. Weird but true.

Hmmm what can I possibly offer to appease my hardcore fans?

I know!

How about a game recommendation? This game, coupled with two other forms of anchorage, kept me sane these past 2 weeks:

I’m a huge RPG nutbag but the whole formula of hero, slay monsters using uninspired battle system, farm, farm, farm, loot, craft, farm, random encounters… ISSSS getting a little too stale for my taste.

In comes Puzzle Quest, a unique puzzle-rpg hybrid that totally blurs the line between genres. The story is simple: A huge bad-boy by the name of Lord Bane is threatening the land of Etheria and you, the ever-so-gullible hero, set out to gather allies, forge weapons, train epic mounts to reach that climactic Washowski-ly epic final battle.

GET IT! GET IT!

Favorite Lines

Friday, February 1st, 2008

You have probably deduced that I’m a music fiend and to tell you the truth, I have like 14gigs worth of music in my computer, which is striking at best. (of course there are a lot more people out there who claims to have more music than I do).

Well, I have 14gigs worth of music that I LOVE TO LISTEN TO. I don’t just amass music and only listen to half of it.

Anyway, I was thinking earlier what kind of blog post that I should be doing today so…. I decided to share with you my favorite lines from different songs. Who knows, you might like ‘em too. :D

27 Things Girls Don’t Know About Guys

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

It’s unnutterably accurate… it’s SCARY.

1.–Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
2.–Guys go crazy over a girl’s smile.
3.–Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him
4.–Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest.
5.–Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they’re still loved.
6.–Don’t talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.
7.–Guys get jealous easily.
8.–Guys are more emotional than they’d like people to think.
9.–Giving a guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh…nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he’ll assume he did something wrong and he’ll obsess about it trying to figure it out.
10.–Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.
11.–A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.
12.–Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.
13.–Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn’t notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.
14.–Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if one guy’s confused, then we’re all confused.
15.–When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he’s just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."
16.–If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn’t happen that often, so when it does, you know something’s up.
17.–If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you’re with your boyfriend, he’s probably jealous and likes you.
18.–When a guy tells you that you are beautiful, don’t say you aren’t. It makes them want to stop telling you because they don’t want you to disagree with them.
19–When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he’s definitely thinking something.
20–Guys don’t like girls who punch harder than they do.
21–A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
22–Don’t be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.
23–Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.
24–Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
25–If you are going to reject a guy, just do it. Don’t say they are like a brother or just good friends, it just hurts even more. Tell them that you aren’t interested in a relationship and they will respect you.
26–Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.
27–When a guy sacrifices his sleep and health just to be with you, he really likes you and wants to be with you as much as possible.

A Sharp Dose of Reality

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I woke up today to text messages of Heath Ledger’s death. It was like a grim reality I didn’t want to face - so stupidly, in truth. It’s not like we knew him personally, but the way my friends and I talk about it, it’s as if he was a tangible part of our lives. He isn’t but fact is, he was an actor of our generation. My friends and I grew up watching his movies. 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite (and my High School friends can attest to that and some special people too). A Knight’s Tale was one of the few movies I watched with my family. And of course, Brokeback Mountain.

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles in Ten Things I Hate About You

Who knew Death would make remembering him as literal as it is in tombstones?

I’m not one to obsess over actors-actresses stuff the way I do musicians and writers. But Heath Ledger’s death really got to me - not because he was Heath Ledger, but because I felt like he defined our teenage-hood, and his death, on some strangely absurd level, signalled our teenage-life’s death. We’re grown up.

A Knight’s Tale

We are growing old, and aside from the newly-inconvenient fact of taxes which my friends and I have only experienced this year, Death remains to be the other permanent thing in life.

Crap.

Brokeback Mountain

Well, nothing beats giving a person tribute more than watching (and APPRECIATING) their work.

What’s weird is, I just sang high praises to this guy yesterday and now… he’s dead. Did I kill Heath Ledger? Heck no. He will be SORELY missed though.

Is playing Joker Heath’s last, yet greatest role? Could be.

When friends make it BIG.

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I would be lying if I said people don’t get envious when some of their friends make it big. Of course, there’s still that pure elation and appreciation for their success. Deep down, there’s a little monster telling you that “Hey, that should be you!”

Anyway, being in the underground, people get signed and you get to see their rise from the depths to mainstream superstardom (ugh). Anyway, I’m gonna show you a couple of bands who are also my dear friends who have made (or are making it) big.

Typecast - Boston Drama

Here’s Typecast, the most rockingest emo-punk-screamo band in the Philippines. I’ve known them since 2003 and I think that of all the bands from the underground, they’re the ones who deserve all the fame and fortune and (MORE FAME) that came their way. They worked hard for it and now, they have 3 albums under their belt and it seems there’s no stopping them. Hurray!

Concrete Sam - Heto Na

This one here’s Concrete Sam. The latest inductee into the mainstream from the Underground. It’s safe to say that they’re the New Found Glory of the Philippines. Many Pinoy bands have tried and failed miserably to try to even sound like a decent pop-punk band here. I guess they perfected the formula. Also, if you watch closely, 8 from Queso and Led and Jay from Kamikazee are in the video. Yay!

Congrats to Concrete Sam for their first video!

Marvel Tribute!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I must admit, as far as the Marvel vs. DC war, I’m pretty much sold on Marvel. Why? First, their heroes are more “believable”, they’re more grounded and pound-for-pound, they’re a lot more original. DC heroes are all alien and super powerful and ALIEN. argh. I’m human! I want human (or mutant) heroes! Anyway, I stumbled upon this site which is basically a tribute to the great works of Stan Lee and the whole of Marvel Comics. Recreating their glory in canvas, toys or whatever medium they please.

If you clicked the link, don’t worry, it takes a WHILE for the page to load. Anyway, here are some of my faves from the site:

Hulk homemade plush toy

Your grandpa ain’t got nuthin’ on MY granpa

Glory

Morbius

and now, for the coup d’grace

Cobus is Love

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

If you’ve read my previous post about covers, you’ll know that if you really want to cover a song, especially from a great band, you MUST give it justice.

Also, if you’ve read my other post about drummers, you’ll know that I have a deep, deep, so deep that Cousteau would shy away from the thought of its depth, admiration for drummers.

Anyway, was idly skimming through youtube when I discovered Cobus… probably the greatest drummer that ever lived. Yep, well…. not the greatest… but he’s up THERE *points up*

First, this is Fort Minor’s Believe Me. I’m not too excited about the band per se, but the whole hip-hop sound is… swish. (I’ll get more into my whole hip-hop phase more tomorrow I guess).

Now, bask in the glory of Cobus…

I want to play the druuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumssssss!!!! I love the way he moves. Cobus’ grace with the sticks is an art form… like a ripple in a lake that ebbs and flows..

ebbs and flows… what the?

hahaha.

Cobus <3

You can judge a song by its cover

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Ya’ll know by now that I really, really, really, really, really, really, really

REALLY

REALLY

love

Coheed and Cambria.

I have a deep, PROFOUND appreciation for how much originality and depth these guys brought to the music landscape. Obviously, a lot of people share the same sentiments and would give tribute to the band by covering their songs and try their best to give it justice.

And JUSTICE was SERVED.

Coheed & Cambria - A Favor House Atlantic (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)

Wel, I can’t put the original video here because it shows the drummer taking a shot of tequila.. I think. So if you want to see it, just search it on youtube. Anyway, here’s a cover done by some girl.

Some girl - A Favor House Atlantic

She certainly got the cheery feel of the sooooong. She made me cry. :( this version’s AWESOME. :D Here’s another one:

Coheed & Cambria - The Running Free

Some Girl (albeit a different one) - The Running Free (with a dash of The Suffering at the end)

Aren’t the covers diviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine? :D

I wave the white flag…
