Marvel Tribute!

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

I must admit, as far as the Marvel vs. DC war, I’m pretty much sold on Marvel. Why? First, their heroes are more “believable”, they’re more grounded and pound-for-pound, they’re a lot more original. DC heroes are all alien and super powerful and ALIEN. argh. I’m human! I want human (or mutant) heroes! Anyway, I stumbled upon this site which is basically a tribute to the great works of Stan Lee and the whole of Marvel Comics. Recreating their glory in canvas, toys or whatever medium they please.

If you clicked the link, don’t worry, it takes a WHILE for the page to load. Anyway, here are some of my faves from the site:

Woohooo for cats!

Went out this morning to hunt for a stray cat. Caught one. Named her Luminara. Anyway, I got a piece of toast, buttered it up (Dairy Creme is <3) and stuck it to Luminara’s behind. Of course, she didn’t approve and struggled a bit. Got up to the roof, a fidgety buttery toasted Luminara in hand. Breathed in deep, and threw her out. I was expecting a spinning, gravity-defying combination of feline and a breakfast treat but instead, she ungloriously fell. The cat landed on her feet though, the toast was ruined though.

Antigravity my eye!

*shrugs*

Acoustic… yet again.

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Wow, I’ve been posting a lot of people who cover  the past week and all I can say to my faithful readers (population: 4) is… I’m sorry.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

Anywho, last week was pretty much a blur to me… well kind of a VIVID blur… as senseless as that sounds, it was. Mwahahahaha!

Okay, I must return to the true essence of The Rock Out and that is… the music. Music that sends tsunamis of good vibes up your spine. Music that will make you cry. Lastly, The Rock Out is about immersing you in amazing music until you drown…

Today, we have a healthy serving of Feathers.

Coheed & Cambria - Feathers

Now THAT’S A SPICY MEATBALL! Hahaha.. I meant Acoustic set! hahaha!

I’m just feeling a bit sorry for the drummer because he used to be playing for The Dillinger Escape Plan, a.k.a. The World’s Most Dangerous Band. I’m not saying that Coheed & Cambria’s skill level are beneath Dillinger Escape Plan’s… they’re two different musical styles - both awesome though.

Yum!

A friend of mine, Celyn, buzzed me in ym last night. She told me that pictures of Coheed & Cambria’s gig in Paris was already uploaded on her Multiply page.

I froze.

“You… watched Co&Ca live? In Paris?”

And with the grace and finality of a butcher knife finding its mark, I blurted out…

“I hate you.”

She laughed. Of course, I didn’t mean it like that. She was already living in Paris then. She didn’t GO to Paris just to watch Co&Ca (I would, for all its worth).

The only man I will ever love.

That’s Celyn on the right and some girl. Hahaha.

The place was surprisingly unpacked. Them frogs better recognize that Co&Ca is the beeezneez.

Rawr.

If you want to see the rest of the gig pics, you can visit Celyn’s page.

I swear on all that is holy, yummy and beautiful, I will watch them live. One day.

Cobus is Love

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

If you’ve read my previous post about covers, you’ll know that if you really want to cover a song, especially from a great band, you MUST give it justice.

Also, if you’ve read my other post about drummers, you’ll know that I have a deep, deep, so deep that Cousteau would shy away from the thought of its depth, admiration for drummers.

Anyway, was idly skimming through youtube when I discovered Cobus… probably the greatest drummer that ever lived. Yep, well…. not the greatest… but he’s up THERE *points up*

First, this is Fort Minor’s Believe Me. I’m not too excited about the band per se, but the whole hip-hop sound is… swish. (I’ll get more into my whole hip-hop phase more tomorrow I guess).

Now, bask in the glory of Cobus…

I want to play the druuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumssssss!!!! I love the way he moves. Cobus’ grace with the sticks is an art form… like a ripple in a lake that ebbs and flows..

ebbs and flows… what the?

hahaha.

Cobus <3

You can judge a song by its cover

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Ya’ll know by now that I really, really, really, really, really, really, really

REALLY

REALLY

love

Coheed and Cambria.

I have a deep, PROFOUND appreciation for how much originality and depth these guys brought to the music landscape. Obviously, a lot of people share the same sentiments and would give tribute to the band by covering their songs and try their best to give it justice.

And JUSTICE was SERVED.

Coheed & Cambria - A Favor House Atlantic (Live on Jimmy Kimmel)

Wel, I can’t put the original video here because it shows the drummer taking a shot of tequila.. I think. So if you want to see it, just search it on youtube. Anyway, here’s a cover done by some girl.

Some girl - A Favor House Atlantic

She certainly got the cheery feel of the sooooong. She made me cry. :( this version’s AWESOME. :D Here’s another one:

Coheed & Cambria - The Running Free

Some Girl (albeit a different one) - The Running Free (with a dash of The Suffering at the end)

Aren’t the covers diviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine? :D

Just for the Sheer Novel Value

Friday, January 4th, 2008

I remember going to Serendra with a fellow toy geek before. We were looking for toy shops and see what kind of wares our grubby, dork hands could grab. Edeng’s toyshop, thank you for a superbly outrageous day. :D

He’s SORT OF from the future.

Now with FREE Star Rice!

Batman’s identity crisis.

Hope you had your shots.

No one messes with a warrior named Explode.

A true hero:

Handsome? Check.

Glistering eyes? Check.

Specially Stylish? Check.

Reliable? Check.

Could turn half-length? If he could go 360 then it’d be ok.

“WARNING! I AM SURROUNDING YOU!”
“SURRENDER NOW! ALL OF YOU ARE SURROUNDED BY ME!”

Proof is all we neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed!!

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

Ok, I may have been quick to pull the trigger by saying that there is a possibility that a higher being doesnt exist just by looking at one photo.

Key word: MAY.

Let me rephrase: Ok, I believe that there is Higher Being somewhere out there but by affirming that, I also affirm the existence of His nemesis - The Devil.

So anyway, I stumbled upon this site and man oh man…. the Devil sure funkafied a whole lot of animals while God was resting (on the 7th day).

This is probably the most RETARDED animal I’ve ever seen. Yes, more retarded than the elusively cute Ali (elusively cute doesn’t make sense).

The Aye-Aye is like the illicit love child a donkey and a hangover.

It’s

Just

Wrong.

Just looking at it makes me itchy.

Oh hell no.

Moving on, we have the sea spider which creeps me the heck out. I’m arachnophobic and just imagining this crawling on my leg while sleeping makes me want to sit in a corner and… cry.

Like a man.

Not to mention this atrocity looks like a face-hugger.

These aren’t the worst though, what’s coming up next is probably the most bum-inducing animal EVER.

Jabba the Hutt at 3 years old.

Well, that’s actually a blobfish and lives under most overused lazy-boys.

In all honesty, it looks like a a giant booger.
