27 Things Girls Don’t Know About Guys

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

It’s unnutterably accurate… it’s SCARY.

1.–Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.
2.–Guys go crazy over a girl’s smile.
3.–Guys will do anything just to get you to notice him
4.–Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend or ex love-interest.
5.–Boyfriends need to be reassured often that they’re still loved.
6.–Don’t talk about your guy friends to your boyfriend.
7.–Guys get jealous easily.
8.–Guys are more emotional than they’d like people to think.
9.–Giving a guy a hanging message like "You know what?!..uh…nevermind.." would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking. And he’ll assume he did something wrong and he’ll obsess about it trying to figure it out.
10.–Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.
11.–A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.
12.–Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.
13.–Guys think WAY too much. One small thing a girl does, even if she doesn’t notice it can make the guy think about it for hours, trying to figure out what it meant.
14.–Guys seek for advice from girls not other guys. Because most guys think alike, so if one guy’s confused, then we’re all confused.
15.–When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he’s just actually saying, "Please come and listen to me."
16.–If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him. It doesn’t happen that often, so when it does, you know something’s up.
17.–If your best guy friend seems to avoid you or is never around when you’re with your boyfriend, he’s probably jealous and likes you.
18.–When a guy tells you that you are beautiful, don’t say you aren’t. It makes them want to stop telling you because they don’t want you to disagree with them.
19–When a guy looks at you for longer than a second, he’s definitely thinking something.
20–Guys don’t like girls who punch harder than they do.
21–A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.
22–Don’t be a snob. Guys can be intimidated and give up easily.
23–Guys talk about girls more than girls talk about guys.
24–Guys hate rejection, but they hate being led on even more.
25–If you are going to reject a guy, just do it. Don’t say they are like a brother or just good friends, it just hurts even more. Tell them that you aren’t interested in a relationship and they will respect you.
26–Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions and are MAD confusing but somehow are drawn even more to them.
27–When a guy sacrifices his sleep and health just to be with you, he really likes you and wants to be with you as much as possible.

Coheed & Cambria: Then and Now

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

It’s amazing how you see bands grow-up and evolve in front of you. You witness their sound change and how amazing they keep their identity through the years. Time, however, can be such a demanding mistress. Sometimes, time deteriorates a rock-out musical group and at the end of the day, it doesn’t look pretty.

Boo.

Bands such as Blink 182 (although they’re not together anymore), A.F.I., New Found Glory, and Thrice have aged beautifully; captivating their audience with fresh new beats time after time and at the same time reinventing themselves to captivate new fans but not alienating old ones.

On the other hand, bands such as Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday have fallen from grace and have done nothing but gain my ire as time dwindled by.

The focus, however, is Coheed & Cambria. These guys have been together since around 1999-2000 under the monicker of "Shabutie" but in 2001, they changed their name to Coheed & Cambria. Anyway, I found a video of them during their very early years. Check it out:

The first song is Time Consumer and the next one is Delirium Trigger.

The next video, is another live video of Time Consumer, but this was during one of their biggest gigs (Starland Ballroom). This was during 2004.

The first obvious difference you’ll notice is Claudio’s hair. In a span of 3 years, the size BALLOONED. Well, if you haven’t had a haircut in 3 years… well… it’s pretty much common knowledge. However, the essence of the songs in both videos is ever so present. Time Consumer IS Time Consumer. However, their stage presence in the first video was… appalling at best. Hahaha. Give ‘em a break it was 2007. Plus Claudio and Travis (the other guitarist) was much thinner.

So letith be a lesson to ye ole kiddies: if you’re in a band, don’t forget on thing… THE MUSIC. Years may flood by, strings may be twanged and broken, weights might shift, public image may contort but don’t ever, ever compromise musical liberty for what the fans want or what society dictates as "cool music".

What’s cool doesn’t always make it right.

Tag-athon

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Of all people, I was tagged by kt_sanctuary for this "7 random things about me." Pshaw. Anyway, as a man who doesn’t fail to please that ones he wants to please, I will cave in and do it. :D

7 Random Things About Moi

1. If I really, reallly like movie, (if it has an awesome script, greeeeeeat acting and *maybe* memorable songs) I will so memorize the script and re-enact every possible scene AND keep watching and watching and watching and watching it AND I will never, ever, ever, get tired of it. Examples of these movies are Snatch, School of Rock, ANYTHING WITH WILL FERREL IN IT, Matchstick Men, 10 Things I Hate About You, Back to the Future, etc, etc, etc. As far as animated movies go, the Disney movies of my generation is the BEST (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan etc). No 3D-animated claptrap for me. Oh and chickflicks are <3.

2. I’m a guy who loves shoes and clothes. I’d go hungry to buy shoes and nice clothes. However, I hate clothes who blatantly brandish their logo on almost 3/4 of the shirt. ICK.

3. I.LOVE.FOOD. Except bitter gourd. eww.

4. Music is my life. However, I’m the most biased guy when it comes to music. A girl once told me that "you’re not a true musician if you’re not open to ALL kinds of music." I retort with "you’re a TRUE musician if you know what you like and what to listen to and you definitely know what kind of music abhors you."

5. I hate talking to stupid people. I’m sorry. I know it sounds super-hyper-mega condescending but have you ever tried to converse with a grown person with the vocabulary of a coffee table? (Well, maybe a coffee table has MORE conversing power because it gets to "read" the coffee table books that sit on top of it….)

6. There are only 3 things in life that matter: Writing, Video Games and Love (under it are music, family, friends, and well LOVE etc).

7. Take note… here we go… I’m the WORLD’S BIGGEST SUGARBALL. Why? Because I am.

Meet the Feathers!

Monday, January 28th, 2008

Again, another Coheed & Cambria rave/rant. With their rise to superstardom, it is obvious that they now have the means and FUNDS to fuel the flames of their fanbase. With their release of their first video from their new album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV - Volume 2: No World for Tomorrow, people are now wondering when their next video is coming out. For me, the best bet would be the song Feathers - it’s within the "radio duration" (3-5 minutes), it’s got no swear words, it’s catchy, AND it’s got a freakin’ nice guitar solo… possibly the best solo in their whole arsenal.

And then… they drop something like THIS.

oh but it gets better…

much much better…

If you visit the site, there’s a video about the family. Could this be what Co&Ca’s next video would look like? Will the video be in black and white?

Ohhhh

The plot thickens.

The Rock Out spotlight: Amber Pacific

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Amber Pacific is a pop punk band that formed in 2002 as a trio of high school juniors who performed locally in their Seattle hometown just for kicks under the name Follow Through.

Amber Pacific - Poetically Pathetic

Amber Pacific - Here We Stand (acoustic)

I’ve been listening to Amber Pacific since hmmmm 2004 I think and what really captivated me was the vocalist. His voice was full, round but at the same time, subtle. It doesn’t make sense but it works. Hahaha!

Look for them, this band is awesome :D

Screamo is a musical genre which evolved from emo and hardcore punk in the early 1990s. Characteristic of the genre are screaming vocals, harmonized guitars, and fast-paced riffs. Screamo has been described as "mixing the literate, poetic lyrics of emo punk with a harsher and more metallic brand of sonic thrash" as well as using screaming vocals "as a kind of crescendo element, a sonic weapon to be trotted out when the music and lyrics (every bit as evolved and autobiographically sincere as emo’s were) reach a particular emotional pitch". Other than that, it is fairly hard to classify (particularly since the rule about screaming vocals is bent fairly often). In addition to that, screamo has significant overlap with other genres like grindcore and even post rock.

Or so says Wikipedia.

THIS is screamo:

A Sharp Dose of Reality

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

I woke up today to text messages of Heath Ledger’s death. It was like a grim reality I didn’t want to face - so stupidly, in truth. It’s not like we knew him personally, but the way my friends and I talk about it, it’s as if he was a tangible part of our lives. He isn’t but fact is, he was an actor of our generation. My friends and I grew up watching his movies. 10 Things I Hate About You was my favorite (and my High School friends can attest to that and some special people too). A Knight’s Tale was one of the few movies I watched with my family. And of course, Brokeback Mountain.

Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles in Ten Things I Hate About You

Who knew Death would make remembering him as literal as it is in tombstones?

I’m not one to obsess over actors-actresses stuff the way I do musicians and writers. But Heath Ledger’s death really got to me - not because he was Heath Ledger, but because I felt like he defined our teenage-hood, and his death, on some strangely absurd level, signalled our teenage-life’s death. We’re grown up.

A Knight’s Tale

We are growing old, and aside from the newly-inconvenient fact of taxes which my friends and I have only experienced this year, Death remains to be the other permanent thing in life.

Crap.

Brokeback Mountain

Well, nothing beats giving a person tribute more than watching (and APPRECIATING) their work.

What’s weird is, I just sang high praises to this guy yesterday and now… he’s dead. Did I kill Heath Ledger? Heck no. He will be SORELY missed though.

Is playing Joker Heath’s last, yet greatest role? Could be.

How Cool is Heath?

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

With the release of The Dark Knight just around the corner, I can’t help but watch the trailer over and over and over again. I’m still wrapping my head around the concept of Heath Ledger playing joker. If you’ve watched the trailer, you can see that Ledger’s version of Joker is edgier. No puns, no “jokes”. Here, he doesn’t split sides… he splits heads.

From here:

To here:

YUM.

As for dedication… this is how Heath prepared to prepare playing the Clown Prince of Crime:

To prepare, he lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character’s posture, voice and psychology. While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice which did not sound like Jack Nicholson’s take on the character. He started a diary, in which he wrote the Joker’s thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance. The challenge of the role put a strain on Ledger’s sleep patterns, finding himself unable to rest for more than a few hours each night.

YUM.

CAN’T WAIT!

Spiderman Begins

Monday, January 21st, 2008

Look look look!! Unseen footage (well until today) of Spiderman practicing being.. well… Spiderman. Don’t be shocked if what you see such un-Spidermanity… To be a hero, one needs practice. After all, he’s just a man.

Of course, he’s much, much, much more adept at flipping.

Now THAT’S Spiderman!

When friends make it BIG.

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I would be lying if I said people don’t get envious when some of their friends make it big. Of course, there’s still that pure elation and appreciation for their success. Deep down, there’s a little monster telling you that “Hey, that should be you!”

Anyway, being in the underground, people get signed and you get to see their rise from the depths to mainstream superstardom (ugh). Anyway, I’m gonna show you a couple of bands who are also my dear friends who have made (or are making it) big.

Typecast - Boston Drama

Here’s Typecast, the most rockingest emo-punk-screamo band in the Philippines. I’ve known them since 2003 and I think that of all the bands from the underground, they’re the ones who deserve all the fame and fortune and (MORE FAME) that came their way. They worked hard for it and now, they have 3 albums under their belt and it seems there’s no stopping them. Hurray!

Concrete Sam - Heto Na

This one here’s Concrete Sam. The latest inductee into the mainstream from the Underground. It’s safe to say that they’re the New Found Glory of the Philippines. Many Pinoy bands have tried and failed miserably to try to even sound like a decent pop-punk band here. I guess they perfected the formula. Also, if you watch closely, 8 from Queso and Led and Jay from Kamikazee are in the video. Yay!

Congrats to Concrete Sam for their first video!
