So What’s Up With Me This Week?

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

It is so rare that I don’t have anything to say because I have this annoying tendency of saying useless, non-sequitur (sp?) stuff ”para lang may masabi”.  For the past 5 or so years I’ve been writing this groin-grabbingly epic story that rivals that of Tolkien’s. Well at first, it started out as a vision; a dream to write a novel so glorious that it’ll oust Tolkien from his position as Top Fantasy Honcho. The years dragged on and I realized that it’s HARD to write a fantastic fight scene. If you read most fantasy novels, the fight scenes weren’t really as awesome as you see in comics or movie adaptations. Obviously, novels don’t have pictures to capture the intensity of fight scenes.

When I took comics class during my last year of college, a lightbulb just exploded in my head: maybe I SHOULD just turn my novel into a comic script. Words AND drawings all in one. Awesome.

I’ll update you guys of my progress. :D

The Gauge of Masters

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I’ve been rocking out since I was like 1st year high school and since then, all I’ve ever wanted was to rock out and be in the frontlines and liberate people with my sheer rockingness. (that sentence doesn’t make sense). So anywho, I’ve plowed through a lot of bands and I’ve come to formulate a theory: There are two ways of really knowing if a band is AWESOME or not and it’s not how cool their cd sounds (although it should be no reason to release a crappy album) or how trendy, happening or chic they dress up (”ooh my god I love this band because they look soooooo cool on stage! They’re so happening!” Puhhleeeease..).

First, a band is LEGENDARY when they sound as perfect live as they are on their album. A GREAT band puts on a fantastic show. They make the crowd part of their show i.e. making them sing some of the parts and whatnot. The second measure is how good they put up an acoustic show. That’s right, no lights, no amps, no electric stuff. Just raw, bare, exposed, direct acoustic love.

Coheed & Cambria - Welcome Home (live at the 7th Avenue )

Coheed & Cambria - Welcome Home (live acoustic at the Daily Download)

The transition is seamless. This, friends, is a legendary band. Plus Claudio’s hair is DIVINE.

Top 10 Songs of the 21st Century

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

I’m a music connoisseur albeit a biased one at that. (Hey, I’ve always believed that the measure of a true music fan is NOT your openness to ALL kinds of music but you know deep down which kinds of music you love and loathe). If you visit my multiply account, you will be able to download these songs. Anyway, let me share ‘em here WITH lyrics.

This is not in order. They’re all equally AWESOME.

10. AFI - Prelude 12/21

This is what I brought you this you can keep,
This is what I brought you may forget me.
I promise to depart just promise one thing,
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
This is what I brought you this you can keep,
This is what I brought you may forget me.
I promise you my heart just promise to sing,
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
This is what I thought,
I thought you need me,
This is what I thought so think me naïve,
I promise you a heart you’d promise to keep,
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

9. A Static Lullaby - Stand Up

This town of sober actors
Feel free to watch your city
become more than a sitcom dependency
As they walk, her streets are bleeding
from the talent that they’re bringing
The stars will pave your journey
To another, to another x-rated love story
The hills have become your idols
The hills have become your idols
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up cause this town is failing us
This town of shifting power
Covered under Neilson ratings
Let’s decide how to feed your children
Rise and fall to the sound they’re scripting
Sit and smile at the pain you’re buying
Will it hurt when we live in paradise?
We’re washing up on sunset
Sit and smile at the pain you’re buying
Sit and smile at the pain you’ll buy
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up cause this town is failing us
This might be your chance
And when you find them running with
Your gun in hand
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up
We’re falling back again
We’ll find something better, we’ll do anything
(This town has killed us both)
Stand up

8. The Receiving End of Sirens - Planning a Prison Break

Warden’s calling for a lockdown, baby
He’ll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden’s calling on a jailbreak, baby
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
Like a felon, he fell into scandals,
Scams, and master plans
To circumvent all circumstances
He thought to his throat,
“We can swallow this key and leave when we please”
Let’s hope this stomach, stomach
Let’s hope this stomach disagrees
Warden’s calling for a lockdown, baby
He’ll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden’s calling on a jailbreak, baby
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
“Make a clean getaway,” he said,
With his hands outstretched
To nurse her neck
She lured him in with a masochistic kiss
And he wished he could be anywhere, be anywhere but here
Warden’s calling for a lockdown, baby
He’ll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
Assist in the escape
Warden’s calling on a jailbreak, baby
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
Arm (he could be anywhere)
in arm we walk (but here, but here)
outside (he could be anywhere)
so that all we’ve done was not in vain. (but here, but here)
Warden’s calling for a lockdown, baby
He’ll call on interim inequities
This is the last night in my body;
So assist in the escape
Warden’s calling on a jailbreak, baby
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could
Warden’s calling for a lockdown, baby (Somehow,)
He’ll call on interim inequities (for now,)
This is the last night in my body; (this skin will have to do.)
So assist in the escape
Warden’s calling on a jailbreak, baby (Somehow,)
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could (for now,)
He’ll fly like only a jailbird could (this skin will have to do.)
This is the last night in my body, yeah.

7. Linkin Park - Breaking the Habit

Memories consume
Like opening the wound
I’m picking me apart again
You all assume
I’m safe here in my room
Unless I try to start again
I don’t want to be the one

The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one confused

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don’t know why I instigate
And say what I don’t mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I know it’s not alright
So I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
Tonight
Clutching my cure
I tightly lock the door
I try to catch my breath again
I hurt much more
Than anytime before
I had no options left again

I dont want to be the one
The battles always choose
‘Cause inside I realize
That I’m the one confused

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
I don’t know why I instigate
And say what I don’t mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I’ll never be alright
So, I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
Tonight

I’ll paint it on the walls
‘Cause I’m the one at fault
I’ll never fight again
And this is how it ends

I don’t know what’s worth fighting for
Or why I have to scream
But now I have some clarity
to show you what I mean
I don’t know how I got this way
I’ll never be alright
So, I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
I’m breaking the habit
Tonight

6. Boxcar Racer - There Is

This vacation’s useless
These white pills aren’t kind
I’ve given a lot of thought on this 13-hour drive
I miss the grinding concrete where we sat past 8 or 9
And slowly finished laughing in the glow of our headlights
I’ve given a lot of thought to the nights we use to have
The days have come and gone
Our lives went by so fast
I faintly remember breathing on your bedroom floor
Where I laid and told you, but you swear you loved me more
Do you care if I don’t know what to say
Will you sleep tonight will you think of me
Will I shake this off, pretend it’s all okay
That there’s someone out there who feels just like me
There is
Those notes you wrote me
I’ve kept them all
I’ve given a lot of thought of how to write you back this fall
With every single letter in every single word
There will be a hidden message about a boy that
loves a girl
Do you care if I don’t know what to say
Will you sleep tonight will you think of me
Will I shake this off, pretend it’s all okay
that there’s someone out there who feels just like me
There is
Do you care if I don’t know what to say?
Will you sleep tonight will you think of me
Will I shake this off, pretend it’s all okay
That there’s someone out there who feels just like me

5. Rise Against - Paper Wings

One last thing I beg you please just before you go
I’ve watched you fly on paper wings halfway around the world
Until they burned up in the atmosphere and sent you spiraling down
landing somewhere far from here with no one else around
to catch you falling down
and I’m looking at you now
and I can’t tell if you’re laughing
between each smile there’s a tear in your eye
there’s a train leaving town in an hour
it’s not waiting for you, and neither am I
“Swing for the fences, son” he must have told you once
but that was a conversation you took nothing from
so raise your glass now, lets celebrate exactly what you’ve done
just put off another day of knowing where you’re from
you can catch up with yourself if you run…
and I can’t tell if you’re laughing
between each smile there’s a tear in your eye
there’s a train leaving town in an hour
it’s not waiting for you, and neither am I
is this the life that you lead,
or the life that’s lead for you?
will you take the road that’s been laid out before you?
will we cross paths somewhere else tonight?
somewhere else tonight…
and I can’t tell if you’re laughing
between each smile there’s a tear in your eye
there’s a train leaving town in an hour
it’s not waiting for you, and neither am I

3. Thrice - Image of the Invisible

We’re more than carbon and chemicals
We are the image of the invisible
Free will is ours and we can’t let go
We are the image of the invisible
We can’t allow this, the quiet cull
We are the image of the invisible
So we sing out this, our canticle
We are the image of the invisible

We all were lost now we are found
No one can stop us or slow us down
We are the named and we are known
We know that we’ll never walk alone
We’re more than static and dial tone
We are the image of the invisible
We’re emblematic of the unknown
We are the image of the invisible
So raise the banner, bend back your bows
We are the image of the invisible
Remove the cancer, take back your souls
We are the image of the invisible

Though all the world may hate us, we are named
The shadow overtake us, we are known
We’re more than carbon and chemicals
Free will is ours and we can’t let go
We are the image of the invisible
We’re more than carbon and chemicals
We are the image of the invisible
Free will is ours and we can’t let go
We are the image of the invisible
We can’t allow this, the quiet cull
We are the image of the invisible
So we sing out this, our canticle
We are the image of the invisible

Raise up the banner, bend back your bows
Remove the cancer, take back your souls

2. Darkest Hour - These Fevered Times

My heart’s been racing with my mind to the finish line of these
Fevered times stuck down again this turbulence has overcome
Tranquility pounding the walls inside these thoughts I can’t control
And shooting through my veins these heightened senses overwhelming
Confusion replaces clarity a neurotic rearrangement you know the
Feeling when down feels up to it’s old tricks again so misleading when
It hits like a ton of bricks to the chest out of breath on the
Bathroom floor and I’ll make light of this night and night of this day
It’s what I tell myself to sleep when I dream myself awake

1. Coheed & Cambria - Everything Evil

Wait for..
Everything evil in you comes out
I’ll stay when we’ll only motivate sound instead, Sergeant.
Make for the table…
In hopes that I won’t be afraid again
call when enabled
And send the leader out against…
I will
Stage a reenactment in a false pretense
Exist inflict
Unworthy unconsciousness
Why debate when the actions suppressed?
Then kill the acquitted
Listen to the sounds that remain in question
In hopes to solidify a truce
Amongst the children and the jury that stands the verdict alive
Here among the dead
Evolve Monstar!
Show me the things that I’ve never wanted done.
Evolve Monstar!
Do to me the things I never wanted done…
I… I felt much better than this before.
If they find out to avoid
Then the accidents kept hidden away
But if they stay…
Blood hungry, cannibalistic unfit family ties
In a series of knocks
To the young girl’s head side
Come write me a letter and paste it on my refrigerator door
Inspected inspector,
i think we’ve found something over here
I… I felt much better than this before.
If they find out to avoid
Then the accidents kept hidden away
But if they stay…
Jesse!
Just come look at what your brother did here!
He did away with me.

Stay until Wednesday,
And write me a child-like letter, pretending.
At war here in Thursday.
Let’s make this our last day at home by the fence.
Would you run? Would you run?
Would you run down past the fence?
Would you run? Would you run?
Would you run down past the fence? (FBI)
And she screamed,
Claudio! Dear Claudio!
I wish, God damn it, we’ll make it if you believe!
And she screamed,
Claudio! Dear Claudio!
I wish, God damn it, we’ll make it if you believe! (FBI)

Pokemon Love!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Oh sure, I’m such a hardcore rockstar that it scares me but nothing makes me giddy like a schoolgirl more than Pokemon.

Eeeep.

Yeah, I LOVE Pokemon well at least the first 300 of them. The rest are just TOO weird and far-out for me. It’s crazy.

“Rock Out, why would you love something so… kiddy?”

Well, I have to admit that Pokemon IS kiddy (to a certain extent at least) but when Pokemon came out, the concept of Rock-Paper-Scissors kind of fighting was taken to a whole new level. Anywho, let me show you the most rockingest Pokemon OF.ALL.TIME.

Cha

ri

ZARD!!!

How can you not love the fire-breathing, butt-kicking grandaddy of all that is amazingly awesome?

Isn’t he magnificent?

Well, here are the OTHER Pokemon that make me want to rock out as well.

Lugia - he’s awesome

Feraligatr - Blastoise ain’t got nothing on him

Mewtwo - How can you not love a cross between Son Goku and a Pokemon?

Saosin Then and Now

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

I discovered Saosin during 2003 and THEY.BLEW.MY.MIND. At that time, screamo bands really blew the scene off its hinges. Saosin had fantastic guitar riffs and the drummer sounded like he had 8 arms while the vocalist screeched his lungs off. The video I uploaded here in Sanriotown (in hopes of enlightening you people) is for Seven Years, the very, very first single they released:

The vocalist then was Anthony Green (inset). He had amazingly high singing voice and he screamed like a banshee. He was eccentric onstage and people often questioned his sexuality.

Sadly, he left the band and joined the band Circa Survive (which is equally good). He was replaced by a man named Cove Reber. Check him out.

Even his stage presence was a little sub-par compared to Mr. Green, he did lead the band to their first album release. Saosin reached all-new heights with him as the frontman.

What do you think? Who’s better? For me, I’m leaning more on Reber because he has much more vocal control, although Green has much more intense stage presence which is also important when it comes to ROCKING OUT.

Hey Hey Hey

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Call me, Mr. Rock Out. :D Some of you might be asking what is “to rock out”? Well, to “rock out” is to… hmmm…. have you ever had that feeling that you just wanted to dance and jump around after (let’s say) hearing an amazing piece of music, or after watching a fantastic movie and all you want to do is tell people about it. “Rock out” can also be used to describe a band (or its members). Let me show you.

THIS is rocking out. Thanks for showing us, Mr. Claudio Sanchez of COheed & Cambria

This is Justin Shekoski of Saosin. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO WHAT HE JUST DID.

Moving on, rocking out, does the body AND spirit good because it let’s you celebrate the good vibes that’s coursing through your body. Or just when you’re having fun, you COULD say that you’re “rocking out”.

How to use the term:

“I’m rocking out with my Ipod”

“This movie makes me want to rock out”

“I’ve been rocking out too much. I’m dizzy.”

Yeah… something like that. :D
