So recently I’ve been sticking a pair of shoes on Yosei and trying to take him to the park outside our place to practice walking and standing and all that.  Well yesterday we surprised me by standing up all by himself.  It was so cute because I could see he was so proud of himself.  Of course after about 5 seconds he started to wobble which made him panic, and he squatted down to keep his balance.   He stood up several times more after that, but stayed down squatting much much more :)

Ok, so this post is a little late as Kodomo no hi (Children’s Day) was on the 5th but  gonna write about it anyways.  Rather than being for all children  this day is more for boys only, but dont worry girls also have their own day earlier in the year called Hina Matsuri.

Anyhow for families with boys Children’s Day is pretty important.  First off there are the displays which include things like koi no bori (carp streamers), kabuto (samuri type helmets), and the gogatsu ningyo (may doll).   From what I understand from my husband  boys usually are supposed to recieve the dolls and such on their very first May.  Well,  for Yosei it wasnt really possible as he was still hospitalized in the NICU recovering from being a preemie.  So this year marked his first Children’s Day at home with his doll and everything.   His doll is a really nice one, as it used to belong to my husband’s older brother,  and the kabuto we received was handmade by Yosei’s Obaachan (Japanese grandma)

So  here are some pics to better explain the display we have. 20095-020.jpg

Here we have the gogatsu ningyo, with the handmade kabuto (its the black thing with the red tie,  and off in the left hand corner you can see the koi no bori
