A Nightmare    Once, my friends and I planned to go for a picnic. We all had different opinions about where to go. Suddenly one of my friends said that we could go to a forest. But our parents forbade us to do so. At last I convinced my mother by telling her that we would take my older brother.    So we cycled off to the woods which was not very far from our house. Each of us took a dish for us to eat there. When we finally reached there, we began to search for a place to set our tents and keep our cycles. We found a place which looked more like a glade. My friends helped me to set up the tents. My brother went to gather some twigs and sticks for the fire. When he came back, we made a nice and warm fire. We sat there for a long time and played games. But we were getting very bored. We could see a cave which was not far from where we sat.    One of my friends, who was a very adventurous girl, went into the cave. After a long time, when she did not return, I was feeling very alarmed. I decided to go and look for her. I checked if I had my torch with me. I did; and so I entered the cave, shining my torch in every corner. I walked for a minute or two but did not find anything or anyone. Then I say that there were three passages. I debated whether I should go any further. I chose to go.     Suddenly the light of my torch went off.  At first I was very scared yet I stepped forward boldly. After that I had to feel my way to the pitch black cave. All of a sudden I began to feel suffocated. I tried to scream for help and run away but I felt as if I was a statue. I could not move my limbs. Then I heard a lot of people calling out my name. I was horror-struck. Then I felt as if someone touched me.       The noise and commotion awakened me up. I realized that is was just a dreadful nightmare. Yet it seemed so real.  

Looks like a crocodile’s mouth!But by now I think you know that what it is.

                 The Banshee Woods               One day, Jane and her friends were planning where they could go in their winter holidays. “Let’s go to the beach!” said Lila. “We went their hundred times Lila!!! And its winter remember?” the others screamed out together. “No, let’s go somewhere else this time. What about the Banshee Woods?” Jane asked the others. “The Banshee Woods? Are you mad Jane???!!! The people say that the banshees live there.” Daisy said. “Do you believe in banshees Daisy? And if the banshees do live there we’re not going to disturb them or wake them up .We’re just going to

camp
there.” said Jane. “Are we going to camp???!!!” the others leaped up from their places in excitement as they said it. “Yes we’re.” said Jane. “I’m still not sure, Jane.” said Daisy. “Daisy come on, cheer up. Don’t be so afraid. The banshees are rumours.” the others replied. “When are we going to start?” asked Kate. “Let’s see. We’ve three more days of school left. Today’s the twenty first. Twenty second, twenty third, twenty fourth, twenty fifth, twenty sixth, twenty seventh! What if we go on the twenty seventh?” Jane asked the others. “Yeah” “yep” “me??? I’m ready!” said daisy doubtfully. “Me too” said Joseph (Jo).    (Five days later)                                 “Is everything ready everyone?” asked Jane with a busy look on her face. “Yes, everything’s ready. Shall we start at 5:00?”Asked Kate to Jane. “Yes, we will” replied Jane. “Did you pack the food, Daisy? Asked Jo. “Yes, I did.” said Daisy. “Hey, Fred is coming with us. Did I tell you? Mother wouldn’t let us go alone so she’s sending Fred with us.” said Jane. (
Frederick was Jane’s older brother.) “Yes, you did Jane, ten times this morning.” said the others together. “Oh, sorry. I’m forgetting everything today.” said Jane, now with a sad look. “Now let’s get ready.I’m going to take a shower before going.” said Jane.    “Fred, we’re ready. Come on, hurry up.” said Jane calling to Fred. “Okay, I’m coming.” said Fred.“I’m here. Are the bikes ready, Jane?” asked Fred. “Yes, the bikes are ready. Bye mother, bye father!” said Jane waving her hand. “Bye and take care” said her mother and father, waving their hands until Jane and her friends were out of sight.          In the middle of the road, the tyre of Daisy’s and Jane’s bikes punctured.  

“Oh, no” said Daisy and Jane together, as they stopped their bikes. The others looked around in surprise and fear. They too stopped. “What happened?” asked Fred. “The tyre of our bikes…..”Said Jane. “There are no houses here, Jane, and its getting dark. Can’t you leave your bikes here? You can sit on my bike Jane. And Daisy; you can sit on Kate’s bike. Won’t you take her Kate?” asked Fred. “Of course, I would. Daisy, come on. Let’s not waste our time here.It was nearly six when they reached Banshee Woods and found a place to camp. “Let’s set the tents here.” said Lila and she began to set the tents. “I’ll help you.” said Jane and Jo, and they started to help her. Kate and Daisy helped Fred to place the bikes. 

Then the three of them lit a fire. After everything was done, they took out two mats and placed them beside the fire. Then they sat there and began to sing, as Fred played the guitar. “It’s warm here. But I’m feeling very cold. I’ll go and put on something warm.” said Daisy and she got up and went into one of the tents. When she came out, her friends were still singing, but she could hear something else. “Jane, Lila, Jo, Kate, Fred come here!” said Daisy, screaming as hard as she could. Her voice echoed everywhere around them. They came running to her as fast as they could (even though the place where she was standing was not at all far.) “What has happened Daisy, are you alright?” the others cried out together and their voices also echoed. “Someone is th…the…there. I…I heard something.” said daisy nearly weeping like a small child. “There’s nothing daisy. We didn’t hear anything.” “Because you…you…you were singing.” “Fred, why don’t you go and see if anyone’s there?” asked Jane with a worrying look. “Alright, I’m going.” said Fred. After a few minutes, Fred came back with a calming look on his face.“No one’s here Jane, I looked everywhere.” “Then it must have been your illusion, Daisy.” “No, it isn’t. Ban…banshees cannot be see…seen.” said daisy, still crying.“Oh daisy, again the banshees?! They are rumours daisy, only rumours.” said Jo, trying all her best to make daisy understand.  Just then, they could hear voices saying……. ‘We are the banshees. Why are you here? Let us live in peace. Or else your breath will cease.’                        “Did you hear it?” said Daisy, crying more than ever. “Oh no, Jane, where have you brought us? In this place, where banshees live?” said Jo looking frightened as well as angry. “I’m leaving at once with my bike. Do any of you want to come with me?” asked Jo.“No” said everyone at once.“Okay then, I am leaving!” said Jo, angrier than ever.“Jo, you can leave. But not in this dark!” said Jane.“I’m going to leave right now!” said Jo.“Then Fred will go with you!” said Jane.“Jane, me??? But I can’t leave all four of you alone in this forest of banshees!”“You have to, Fred. She can’t go alone.” said Jane sadly.“I don’t need anyone of you” said Jo and she took her things and disappeared into the dark.           She was walking very cautiously and slowly. She was not very far away from their camping place when she could hear someone whispering to her.‘Are you scared?’ she almost jumped at this and was about to scream when she stopped herself from doing so. She could hear the voice again.‘Go back to your friends. All of you can leave tomorrow morning. We are giving you one last chance. Die or go back to your friends.’At this, Jo ran back to their camping place and told the others what the banshee had said. 

Then, the others began to enjoy their selves for the last time, as if nothing had happened. Trying their best to forget everything. Soon, they were all tired and ate their food lazily. They wanted to sleep, but none of them could. 

  Next morning, they packed everything. Except the two mats where they now sat, sleepy. The next thing they knew, the trees and the land were shaking. All the sleep vanished in fear.“What’s happening? Why’s everything shaking?” asked Daisy who was frightened the most.“We don’t know”said the others. Then they were riding their bikes faster than ever, holding on tight so they might not fall. The trees were falling and the banshees were saying‘Go away’ again and again.  

Now, when they were almost out of Banshee Woods, the tree which was just behind them began to shake. It then fell.They closed their eyes thinking that they would die any moment. But when they opened their eyes they were safe. They really had a narrow escape.“Jane, Jane, Jane!!! Wake up!” said all her friends together.“Don’t you want to go to Banshee Woods for camping?” asked Daisy“Again?” said Jane, her heart full of surprise and terror.
