You just have to love Disney’s High School Musical!

You won’t get tired watching it over and over and over again!

Today, My younger brother and I watched STAGES and Trumpets Playshop’s rendition of High School Musical On Stage at the Meralco Theatre. We were seated at the fifth row, balcony center (thanks to Kim Ong!)

Even though I have watched this (on TV, DVD…) for countless times, it still brought some kind of excitement to me this time around. First, it is a play - so anything can really happen. And true enough, it did not fail to surprise and amuse me (as well as the audience - as they cheered and clapped consistently)

The director, Audie Gemora, led the story and his cast to a successful - one of a kind - showcase of its own rendition of the popular Disney show. It did not veer away from the original plot, but you saw the originality the directory and the scriptwriter put into the show.

I loved the tandem of Sharpay and Ryan Evans as played by Alex Godinez and PJ Valerio. I think they really did their part well! So as with the leads, Sam Concepcion and Cheska Ortega as Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez. I love how they were good together, and how they danced and acted. Though there are some criticisms regarding the singing part, which I quite agree, I guess there’s nobody I can think of for their roles. Sam and Cheska have the looks and the aura to make one heck of a show!

Mrs Darbus is one of my favorite roles in this show, as she portrayed herself fantastically. She’s dashing, humorous, lovely, with an utmost sense of character and professionalism all at the same time.

And of course, who could forget the dashing and energetic role of the “dancer wannabe braniac” Martha Cox, as played by a good friend, DJ Villanueva - who wowed her friends and the audience with her good looks, powerful voice, dance moves and acting skills. Go DJ!

I quote Yehey.com, “I have to warn you though, I guarantee that you’ll be leaving Meralco Theater unconsciously singing at least one of the musical’s shamelessly catchy tunes; or better yet, a medley of them. But don’t fret, because with it comes a wider smile on your face and an extra spring in your walk. It’s the High School Musical effect.” True enough, I left Meralco Theatre with HSM High!!!
