20-year-old arrested for stalking via Xbox 360
Joshua Stetar from Saratoga Springs, New York stalked a 15-year-old girl from Spokane, Washington on Xbox live while playing Halo 3. He’s the kind of stalker that tries to get close to his target and when the unsuspecting prey puts its guard down, he shows his fangs.
Upon finding the girl’s address and cellphone number, Stetar started sending packages and flowers, as to which the parents returned. He also sent the girl countless text messages (love notes and threats) till the girl’s parents were left with no choice but to change her number.
Then came a day where Stetar decided to visit the girl. Around 9:30 on friday night, Stetar sent a message to the girl by saying that he was driving by her house. Then at 9:36, one of the most disturbing threats was sent to the girl. Stetar messaged her “Tell the cops that I’m gonna rape you and your sister.”
The girl’s father then called the police and told of the harassment. Stetar was caught and was booked in Spokane Country Jail with a felony count of Stalking. However, he was released on Saturday with a $10,000 bond.
W-h J: Internet lesson number 1 for kids: Never, ever give your address, phone number, parents’ credit card number and your real name to a stranger or post it online.
What’s disturbing is that when Stetar messaged the girl “Tell the cops I’m gonna rape you and your sister,” he spoke of the 6-year-old cousin of the girl. I can only give one definition to people who’d rape (not to mention a minor and a very young minor): Trash.
In my opinion, Stetar should’ve stayed long in Jail. That wasn’t a simple harassment. The fact that Stetar drove all the way from New York to Washington, sent her packages and flowers, seriously stalking her online, and threatening her with rape via text message, I think detaining him more and processing his case longer is the better action.
