Hacked PSPs that is.
Apparently, a hacker managed to find a way around Rockstar’s efforts to block the gory scenes that gave Manhunt 2 an Adult’s Only (AO) rating by the ESRB. An AO rating is the same as a death kiss that means no console, as of now, is willing to carry a title with such rating.
So, is Rockstar in hot water again like they were during Grand Theft Auto San Andreas’ Hot Coffee Mod issue? I don’t think so this time.
You see, there’s a huge gap between the two issues. In Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, I really think Rockstar’s at fault since Hot Coffee can be accessed by anyone through PCs (by manipulating files) and consoles (modded or unmodded with the help of a GameShark). Meaning, no matter how you look at it, it was really there for the purpose of being unlocked (like an easter egg). Manhunt 2’s case however was a bit on the safe side, because what the third party did was to hack the game’s content playable only on hacked PSPs. Also, it seems that ESRB already knows that the adult content was there even if the blurs were made.
(Daniel: I’ll show you what the word “hack” really means with a steel pipe)
Take-Two’s say on the matter:
Multiple edits were made to revise Manhunt 2 for its M-rated version.
Hackers apparently have altered one of those edits to produce an illegally modified version of the game that can only be played on an unauthorized, modified PlayStation Portable handheld system.
All of the game material, and especially these specific edits, was submitted to and reviewed by the ESRB in accordance with requirements regarding disclosure that were enacted two years ago and any contrary suggestion is inaccurate and irresponsible.
