Way of the Dragon
Thursday, June 19th, 2008I don’t know anybody who hasn’t even remotely heard of Bruce Lee. The man is a legendary creature akin to Elvis or even Hitler (although the latter was more notorious than popular), and you can’t mention martial arts without running into Bruce Lee’s name somewhere along the line. Up to this day, he is honored as one of the world’s most extraordinary martial artists and athletes.
But his physical prowess alone wouldn’t have earned him the adulation and the respect of millions upon millions of fans. It was his acting career that nearly turned him into a household name during his lifetime, all of which began as a small sidekick role in The Green Hornet that eventually blossomed into such popularity that up to this day, the show is known as The Kato Show in Lee’s home country of Hong Kong.
In the meantime, the western world had it’s own fair share of martial arts superstars, and one of the foremost examples would have to be Chuck Norris, the man with the legendary roundhouse kick. Though he wasn’t as deadly, or admittedly, as well-built as Mr. Lee was, Chuck Norris was, perhaps, one of the few people who could possibly stand up to the dragon’s lightning-like attacks blow for blow, and the film Way of the Dragon finally brought the two together on the silver screen for one explosive fight sequence.
Unfortunately, that’s all I’ve seen of this film - the fight between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. And wow, does Lee ever own the fight sequence. He initially gives Norris the illusion that the latter had the upper hand, but when he starts taking the fight seriously, there was only one way the fight could end: with the decidedly unimpeachable defeat of Chuck Norris.
If anybody can get me a copy of this film, it shall be greatly appreciated. I’ve tried looking for images, but I can’t seem to find anything that’s work-safe (the fight scene itself ended with a very bad, negative note) .
