Michael Jackson Owns the Rights to "The Beatles’" Songs
Most of ‘em, anyway. The Prince of Pop outbid other prospective buyers, including Paul McCartney himself) in buying ATV’s 4,000-song music catalog, which had most of The Beatles’ songs recorded there.
What happened was, the Beatles sold the publishing rights of their songs to Northern Songs, a company owned by their manager (so as to lessen the yaxes they were paying, which was huge considering the amount of income they were generating) - though they still retained some shares there. However, they lost their attempt at a buyout bid for control of the company when Dick James and Charles Silver (higher-ups of Northern Songs) sold their shares to Sir Lew Grade, head of Associated Television Corporation.
