8-Bit Color

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

… Of crayons, that is.

The first box of Crayola ever sold carried the same eight colors that it has now: black, blue, red, yellow, green, orange, violet, and brown. It was sold for a nickel in 1903.

Interestingly enough, four colors were retired by Crayola from the 120-crayon box set: blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry, and teal blue. These were replaced by inch worm (yuck!), jazzberry jam, mango tango, and wild blue yonder.

Poor crayons. Wonder if they got pension when they were forced to retire.

Wish I Was in Space

Friday, September 19th, 2008

In space, astronauts become taller because gravity (that force to keeps people from floating all over here in earth) is absent there, allowing the ligaments between the vertebrae to expand. The same holds true when we’re lying down.

An astronaut can grow as much as three inches in space.

If this guy gets any bigger, he’ll not only rule the world, but the galaxy as well.

Apparently, every single hamster in the United States today are related - they all descend from a single litter captured in Syria in 1930.

That is… I can’t… Wow.

Who’s Brad?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Apparently, Pepsi’s original name was "Brad’s Drink", coined at the very beginning of the cola wars in late 1800s. It eventually changed its name to Pepsi, to reflect its pepsin content (whatever that is).

Wise move on their part, in my opinion.

Tony’s Tiny Tot

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Frosted Flakes mascot "Tony the Tiger" actually has a son named Tony, Jr. He even has a daughter named Antoinette and a wife (unnamed?:( ) They appeared with Tony Sr. in early advertising commercials.

What happened in the later years? Did they get divorced and the custody went to the mother?
