8-Bit Color

… Of crayons, that is.

The first box of Crayola ever sold carried the same eight colors that it has now: black, blue, red, yellow, green, orange, violet, and brown. It was sold for a nickel in 1903.

Interestingly enough, four colors were retired by Crayola from the 120-crayon box set: blizzard blue, magic mint, mulberry, and teal blue. These were replaced by inch worm (yuck!), jazzberry jam, mango tango, and wild blue yonder.

Poor crayons. Wonder if they got pension when they were forced to retire.
