Icy Delight on a Stick
Once upon a time (well, more like 1905), an eleven-year old Frank Epperson left his glass of powdered soda and water on their front steps. When he checked back the next day, he saw that his drink froze solid, and it tasted really, really good!
Frank and his friends definitely loved it, but it would only be after 18 years that he would apply for a patent of his “invention.” Not knowing what to call it, he initially gave it the name “Epps-sicle”. His kids had a different idea, though: whenever they asked for their favorite treat, they’d call it Pop’s sicles, and the name stuck, but became shortened (well, by a single letter and an apostrophe) to popsicle.

popsicles! i’ve always known the orange-flavored ones, though.
