The Blarney Stone

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

The Blarney stone is a block of bluestone (even if it isn’t blue) and a prominent Irish symbol. According to legend, whoever kisses the stone would endow that person the gift of gab.

As Irish bard Francis Sylvester Mahony wrote,

“There is a stone there,
That whoever kisses,
Oh, he never misses
To grow eloquent.
‘Tis he may clamber
To a lady’s chamber,
Or become a member
Of Parliament.”

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

Believe It or Not…

Monday, March 17th, 2008

A Brussels Airlines flight to Vienna was aborted because the pilot was attacked in the cockpit. The attacker was a passenger’s cat, who got out of its travel bag.

I just hope it’s not this cat, or we’re all doomed. Cats will take over the universe.@_@

Sun - Mae

I’m a mess, I guess.
It’s what I’ve asked for, it’s what I’ve needed.
Well, you know me better than that,
or at least you did then something happened.
But once again, well, something’s happened.
The confidence you held in us is
the rope we almost hung ourselves with.
At times I wonder if we really took the steps
to break right through it.
I know that there were better days,
but to see the light and to feel the rays.
Life was always back and forth
and we were idling or making useless progress.
Waiting for the rain to stop.
Destination: beautiful.
Seems that I’m still waiting for the sun. (Whoa yeah)
Someday will come back to us, if you’re willing, let it go.
Why won’t you just let this be your sun? (oh oh)
It seems like yesterday we had the world our way.
But some (whoa) say we’re headed for destruction.
i’ll ask you “What in the world should we do?”
This light is green our break is through.
Are we not trying or we’re trying too hard?
Well, you know I never want to miss,
I hold on tight and reminisce.
But it’s bittersweet to me.
When time stands still as it’s trapped inside
the letterbox you gave back to me.
But I’m the one who keeps on reading.
But I’m the one who wants to let it go.
I’m the first to speak.
You’re the last to know.
Another scene that we’re creating,
I need to know if we’re still making useless progress.
Waiting for the rain to stop.
Destination: beautiful.
Seems that I’m still waiting for the sun. (Whoa ohh)
Someday will come back to us, if you’re willing let it go.
Why won’t you just let this be your sun? (whoa ohh)
It seems like yesterday we had the world our way.
But some (whoa) say we’re headed for destruction.
Waiting for the rain to stop.
Destination: beautiful.
Seems that I’m still waiting for the sun.
Someday will come back to us, if you’re willing let it go.
Why won’t you just let this be your sun?
It seems like yesterday we had the world our way.
But some (whoa) say we’re headed for destruction. (whoaaa…)

Sorry for the poor video quality, it’s the only one I could find of this song.

This is one of my absolute favorite songs to date. A friend got me to listen to this, and I’ve been in love with the lyrics and the melody ever since. It’s perfect for those times when you’re bitter and angsty about things. I guess all of us have had that kind of day when everything just seems so messed up, and it seems we’re waiting for something that will never arrive. It’s like we’re looking for ways to self-destruct, to crash and burn, to waste away on our own terms.

I guess there are times when the only thing we can do is surrender, and let the situation (or in the case of Christians, faith) take us where it brings us. It’s those times when we’re feeling hopeless that we should be more filled with hope, because if we allow ourselves to be defeated by our situation, that’s when the darkness overtakes us and fills us. Not a good place to be, in my experience.

Thou Shalt Not…

Make faces at dogs in Oklahoma, otherwise, you can get fined, arrested, or jailed.

Eat a lollipop in Washington, lest you get arrested.

Hitch a crocodile to a fire hydrant in Michigan.

Adjust your stockings in public (if you’re a woman) in Dennison, Texas, lest you get jailed for a year.

Rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol in Louisiana.

Eat chicken with a fork in Gainesville, Georgia, ironic because it is the poultry processing capital of the world.

Loony laws. Gotta love ‘em.:P

Cookie, Cookie, Cookie!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

You’ll eat about 35,000 cookies in your lifetime.

And in my case, at least 75,000.:P I can give Cookie Monster a run for his money.
