Red as the… Insects?@_@

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

A lot of red, particularly the deep crimson ones, are actually from insects, believe it or not. The “juices” of female cochineal insects are extracted and are eventually used in foods such as alcoholic drinks, bakery products and toppings, cookies, desserts, icings, pie fillings, jams, preserves, gelatin desserts, juice beverages, varieties of cheddar cheese and other dairy products, sauces and sweets. Cochineal is also used to color Mcdonalds Strawberry Shakes.

The next time you eat something colorful, check for any teeny legs.@_@

Right-Brained or Left-Brained

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

My left brain asserted itself once again. While 75% here in the office said that she rotates clockwise, a few and others and I are adamant that she’s going the other way.@_@

Anyway, you might have gleaned this from that statement, but just in case:

Left-brained: You see her spinning counterclockwise. This basically means that you’re logical and you’re a “mind over heart” kind of person.

Right-brained: You see her spinning clockwise. This means that you’re leaning more on emotions, hence, a “heart over mind” person.

What about you? What do you see?

Taz and His Fatty Tail

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

The Tasmanian Devil stores body fat in its tail and an unhealthy devil often has a thin tail.

Looks like Taz is a little unhealthy, if his tail’s an indicator.:p

What Say You to Anchovy Ketchup? :P

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Ketchup has not always been made out of tomatoes. It started out as a general term for sauce, sometimes even made of mushrooms or fish brine with herbs and spices (mushroom ketchup is still available in some countries, btw.)

Some popular early main ingredients for the predecessor of ketchup include anchovy, oyster, lobster, walnut, kidney bean, cucumber, cranberry, lemon, and grape.

Sometimes, I Ain’t Screaming for Ice Cream

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

People can sometimes think of the kookiest stuff to put in their food, but at times, it can get a little too far.

Check out this list of the weirdest/strangest/most frightening ice cream flavors ever made and you’ll get what I’m talking about. Ever wondered what squid or octopus would taste like as a dessert? Wonder no more! Just hop on a plane to Japan and you’ll get the chance to try it out.:P I love ice cream, I really do, but I wouldn’t eat these stuff even if you paid me.
