Red as the… Insects?@_@
A lot of red, particularly the deep crimson ones, are actually from insects, believe it or not. The “juices” of female cochineal insects are extracted and are eventually used in foods such as alcoholic drinks, bakery products and toppings, cookies, desserts, icings, pie fillings, jams, preserves, gelatin desserts, juice beverages, varieties of cheddar cheese and other dairy products, sauces and sweets. Cochineal is also used to color Mcdonalds Strawberry Shakes.
The next time you eat something colorful, check for any teeny legs.@_@
