Turtle in a Half-Shell, Turtle Power

I got today’s post idea from Tingal.:P She mentioned in passing that she doesn’t like Ninja Turtles that much (sniff).

I do, though, so I decided to feature my favorite turtle of the bunch: Raphael!

I loved him in the old cartoons, not only because red was my favorite color, but also because he has the most wicked sense of humor.:P Unlike Michelangelo, who’s fun-loving and who cracks jokes for the sheer joy of it, Raph is sarcastic and witty, which I really love.:D He wields a pair of sai, said to be one of the most difficult weapons to master.

I decided to follow his character on the Internet sometime back, and it turned out that in the comics, he was the “bad sheep” of the group, angsty and a bit of a loner. This made me like him even more, since most of the characters I’ve loved are the borderline ones. Theories state that he’s mildly jealous that Leonardo (the oldest of the brothers) is the leader and not him, but he’d still follow him. He is really loyal to his family, and would go on a rampage if one of them gets hurt. He is closest to Michelangelo, the baby of the four. He is arguably the strongest and the best fighter of the brothers.

In the 2007 movie, his angst was more emphasized as compared to the cartoons, being resentful towards Leonardo for leaving them. He took on the disguise of Nightwatcher to continue crime-fighting while Michelangelo and Donatello try out “regular jobs.” What’s funny is that his build, his accent, and his attitude kind of reminds one of a gangster who’s willing to beat up anyone at the slightest provocation.

Just realized: that doesn’t put him in a good light, does it?@_@ I still love him though, and also because of these things.:D He might have an attitude, but when it comes to tight situations, you know you can count on him, because he’s still good.:D

In closing, here are the lyrics of the song from the old cartoons:

Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Heroes in a half shell, turtle power
They’re the worlds most fearsome fighting teens
[ we’re really hip ]

They’re heroes in a half shell and they’re green
[ hey, get a grip ]
When the evil shredder attacks
These turtle boys don’t cut him no slack

Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Teenage mutant ninja turtles

Splinter taught them to be ninja teens
[ he’s a radical rat ]
Leonardo leads, Donatello does machines
[ that’s a fact, Jack ]
Raphael iscool but rude
Michaelangelo is a party dude
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Teenage mutant ninja turtles
Heroes in a half shell, turtle power

Idea: Maybe I should feature my favorite characters from time to time here? :D

I like Michael Angelo, not because of the color orange, but because of his weapon!!!

Raein: Mitosis?@_@ How did that happen?
chryssy: Haha! Cowabunga! Yeah, they’re named after famous painters, right?:P I wonder why their sensei’s named after an annoying wood-inflicted wound though.@_@
Cookie: Do you know how to use nunchaku as a weapon?:P I like Michelangelo too, but more on because of his humor. When it comes to weapons, I’d still choose Raphael, because the sai is apparently one of the hardest weapons to master.:P
