Blog Guide: Embedding YouTube Videos

sexfree-lee

Complete with pictures! Special thanks to Rini who had the no video youtube embed which made me crazy trying to figure out how she did it. Once I did figure it out, I wanted to share it with everybody! So, here you go!

ヾ(〃^∇^)ノ

How to embed a normal video?

First things first: head over to your blog like you’re going to write a post. Set up your post the way you like it, save the YouTube video for last. Once you have everything ready. Click on the “Code” tab.

Why the code tab? Because any HTML written here will be converted when you post. The YouTube embed code is HTML.

Then go to YouTube and find the video you want to post. Click on the “Embed” button underneath the video.

You’ll get a box of items to edit. These items will help personalize the video. You can change the border colors, height, and width of the video.

Once you’ve got everything to your specifications, click on the wall of text (red box in the picture above), copy it (ctrl+c), and paste it inside the “Code” section of your blog!

Warning: Do not, I repeat, DO NOT click on the “Visual” tab once you’ve pasted the YouTube code. If you do, the code will disappear and it will not show up in your blog post. This also means, that if you successfully embed a YouTube video on a post and then want to edit that post when you go to edit it, the video will disappear so you must embed it all over again.

How to embed just the music and no video?

I’ve seen a couple people do that and I was promptly green with envy. Just want to share an awesome song with your readers, but don’t want the horrible video that went along with it? This is all you need:

But how do you do it? Like this:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/videocode" width="400" height="25"></embed>

Leave the height at 25, but set the width however you like. Don’t want your readers to skip ahead in the song? Force them to listen to the entire thing?

Simply change the width to 75.

Please be aware of this:

The url in the embed tags is different from the YouTube url. You must remove the “watch?” and replace the “=” with a “/”.

The videocode is that long string of numbers, underscores, and dashes after the equal sign (=) of the videos url.

So, what you get if you do that is something like this:

I Do by Kalomira

That’s it! If you have any questions, or have suggestions about embeding YouTube videos on the SanrioTown blogs, let me know!
