Hello everyone! Your wrestling and Sailormoon news is here, but I must start off today’s news on a sad note.
Injury Report: Sadly, 22 year old standout Pelle Primeau has been medically forced to retire, due to the beating Delirious gave him in Chicago Ridge on August 16th. You may recall that I documented the beating in my last post. Pelle was throttled, and did not land right on several occasions. The result is a serious head injury, along with blunt head trauma.
If I could sum up Pelle Primeau in one word, it would be determination. I was lucky enough in June to get Pelle’s autograph, and I can tell you, Pelle put effort into every single move.
On April 1st, 2006 in Chicago, I met my friend, who’s also a wrestler, Jason Saint. Jason and I stood by, as Pelle went to go up against Derek Dempsey. (Bobby Dempsey’s brother) Pelle stood in the ring, and the two went toe-to-toe. Derek made a comment to Pelle about Pelle’s size. (Pelle is less than 5’2.) Pelle cocked his head. WALKED up Derek’s chest, kicked Derek, and then landed perfectly on his feet, before Derek even realized Pelle had moved.
Pelle had recently begun dying his hair differently, experimenting with his look to see what the crowd thought. He didn’t need a gimmick, because fans at ringside were generally happy to see him wrestle. Pelle also worked security, and also helped out with setting up and taking down the ring, and also with general repair and maintenance. Even there, Pelle worked hard, trying to make the show that much better.Pelle, a graduate of the Ring of Honor School, had won the 2007 Top of the Class trophy, and endured a long feud with Shane Hagadorn. He then feuded with Chris Hero, and subsequently the entire group of Sweet n’ Sour Inc.
On August 16th, I stood across from the ring, and could loudly hear each “thump” whenever Pelle landed, during Delirious’s assault. I had seen Pelle hurt before, but this time, he just didn’t move. This is the first time in my life; I’ve ever seen the end of a career up close. And certainly I’d never think that end would involve someone as young as Pelle Primeau.
Before his retirement, Pelle had made 2nd runner up in the PWI Rookie of the Year award, and made #307 in the PWI 500. Below is an excerpt from his 307 ranking:
307 Pelle Primeau (5’5, 140, 4, 354) Was a second runner-up in the Rookie of the year voting in the 2007 PWI Achievement Awards… Participated in the ROH “Race to the top” tournament, defeating B.J. Whitmer in the first round before falling to Davey Richards… Teamed with Antonio Blanca to defeat The American Nightmare, only to have Blanca turn against him… Got revenge by beating Blanca in December… Recently teamed with Delirious to win a tag team scramble match against Brent Albright and Chris Hero and The Vulture Squad.
And below is an excerpt from the PWI 2007 Achievement article with Pelle:
Pelle Primeau [12 percent] Second runner-up: Primeau excelled at Ring of Honor’s training school and regularly competes on ROH cards, graduating from special “student matches” to becoming a solid mid-card competitor, even winning 2007’s Top of the Class trophy. Primeau has suffered his share of one-sided losses against some big names in ROH, but he has also shown remarkable resilience and a determination to improve at his craft. For as short as his career was, Pelle still has legions of fans, and I for one wish him well, and hope he can recover fully. WE MISS YOU PELLE!
Firing Squad: TNA and Gail Kim have come to the agreement of her release. Gail had her last TNA match Thursday night, losing to Awesome Kong. How the sudden split came about is unknown, but it is said to have been an amicable split. The release comes as a huge shock to the Knockout division, as Gail was in the middle of a new storyline, involving her “sister”. What exactly will become of Gail’s “sister” is unknown.

WWE: Both Raw and SmackDown are gearing up for the dumbest title match they’ve had this year. General managers Vickie Guerrero and Mike Adamle introduced a concept sure to bring about chaos at this year’s Unforgiven. The match will go as follows:
5 wrestlers will be selected, including the champion. 2 men will enter the ring, with another to go in randomly during the first few minutes. There will be a 20 minute time limit. The title can change hands any number of times during that time limit. The man to get the final pin gets the belt and will be the ONLY man acknowledged as champion during that night. Even if someone else had the belt 2 seconds before him, WWE will NOT acknowledge him. That sucks.
Speaking of Vickie, The Undertaker returned to a standing ovation Friday night. Vickie brought out all of her boys to the ring, giving a half-hearted apology. ‘Taker did not accept, telling her that he came NOT for an apology… but for Vickie’s soul. ‘Taker then proceeded to beat the daylights out of her entire squad.
Much of SmackDown was marred by hasty re-hashed matches, but had one single highlight. That was The Undertaker. Aside from his long awaited return, SmackDown had a rumble style match, which Brian Kendrick inadvertently won, via Big Show’s help. Big Show had torn into the ring during a battle royal to determine who would qualify for the championship scramble. Big Show had been excluded by Vickie, for unknown reasons, which she tried to cover up by saying “oversight”. Big Show blew through 10 wrestlers, and accidentally gave Brian Kendrick the win, when Spanky flew over the top rope into Ezekiel’s arms, instead of the floor. The ref saw it, and allowed Ezekiel to push Spanky back in, thus he will now be one of 5 men in the SmackDown scramble.
The other four men are current champion HHH, MVP, Shelton Benjamin and Jeff Hardy.
TNA: Okay, like the SmackDown tapings, I’m going to whittle this down to news only.
So Cal Val was invited to Karen’s Angle. Karen tried to bully Val into making a decision about Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal. This comes across as highly ironic, considering the fact that Karen is on the brink of divorce from Kurt Angle. Sonjay came on the set, to try AGAIN to persuade Val to choose him over Jay. But as Sonjay was touching Val, she screamed and bolted for escape, as Jay jumped Sonjay, and beat him senseless. Jay flung Sonjay around like a rag doll, and reared back to strike Sonjay again, but accidentally hit Val. Val’s head fell hard onto Karen’s floor, resulting in a concussion.
A.J. Styles retained Kurt Angle’s medals in a ladder match. A mysterious guitar fell from the sky to help the ROH alumni. Hmmm… ^_^
ROH: rohwrestling.com is currently gearing up for the next video wire, which will document Pelle’s accident in Chicago. In the meantime, there is a large article up on the subject, along with an article on how many people Nigel McGuiness has beaten to retain the ROH title.
PWO: CONGRATULATIONS JAKE CRIST AND VINCENT NOTHING!!! ROH alumni Jake Crist and PWO star Vincent Nothing are the very first PWO tag team champions. The belts were won after a LONG and laborious ladder match at PWO’s annual Wrestleution event. The Ohio promotion is small, and doesn’t earn much annually, so in place of the traditional hook and wire that most promotions use, the contract for the belts was hung on a long piece of yarn, which stretched out over the ring at an outdoor arena. Jake had to endure a cheating ref, who was helping everybody up the ladder in an effort to speed the match up, and the men also had to put up with flimsy and dangerous ladders, which buckled several times during the bout. Jake climbed the ladder, while everyone else was counting stars, and grabbed the contract. As he tried to unhook it, the yarn snapped, sending Jake all the way down to the canvas, as he cradled the prize.
Well that does it for now. As always stay clean and healthy and read a good book when you can. Until next time!
