After neglecting my Polyvore account for 6 months, I revisited it today and was reminded of why I stayed up til 6 a.m. looking for items and putting outfits together. When I logged on, I was surprised to find out that a few people took notice of some of the outfits I put together and made them their favorite! Feels good!
Anyway, here are my favorites out of the bunch I made 6 months ago. Will post new ones every now and then.
1.

2.

3.

I kind of built the last two outfits from the boots because at the time I was OBSESSED with flat, slouchy, knee high boots. How I wish I can wear boots here in Manila everyday without having everyone stare at me like I’m some madwoman.

One of the sites I love to browse through every now and then is Etsy. Though I don’t think I will be buying anything from there anytime soon (because the shipping cost will be more expensive than the actual item), I still like to look at the stuff there because the fresh ideas applied to your everyday fashion accessories, items for the home, etc. is just so inspiring. It’s so much better than browsing through Multiply online stores because of the wealth of unique items.
My favorite gallery is “Geekery”. I adore the humor and creativity evident in each of the items in this gallery. My sense of style has always been a little quirky so I think most of the stuff under “geekery” will fit quite well in my wardrobe. Here are some of my favorites:
Circuit Board Bookmarks (not really a fashion accessory but they’re just so cute hihi!)

Fantastic Four Pendant:

Sudoku Pendant:

Ribcage Pendant: (The nurse in me LURVES this, but I think not many of you will share the same sentiment. hehe!)

Wiimote Earrings:

Stormtrooper Cufflinks:

Red Mushroom Earrings:

The following items are my favorites. They are all from Molecular Muse’s shop at Etsy:
Serotonin Molecule Earrings :

Caffeine Molecule Necklace :

Heehee! Me likey.

Back in college, whenever we’d have to present something as a group, I always volunteered to make the Powerpoint presentation or the output paper lay-out. Not that I believed I was the only one who could do it well, but because I genuinely enjoyed doing the lay-outs and graphics. I’d nitpick to no end about the font size, the image placements, and all the other elements that it takes me about thrice as long to be done with it. One thing I never did, unless it was ABSOLUTELY necessary (which means presentation’s in 30 minutes and absolutely nothing has been started as far as the Powerpoint presentation is concerned), was to use the built-in templates. Hated them. Too plain… too familiar. I want something different, exciting, fun, colorful, dynamic! If I were still in college, I’d be squealing with delight upon discovery of this site: The Powerpoint Templates
Check out some of their templates:

How I wish I can make some sort of presentation right now so I can use these!

In addition to the Ice Jewelry by the same designer mentioned in the previous post, here are more temporary jewelry made out of other unconventional materials:

The whole point of this Temporary Jewellery collection, according to Katharine Ludwig, is to emphasize that wealth, beauty, and status, things that are usually associated with jewelry, disappear (or dissolve) easily when they’re not being taken care of.
The water soluble yarn necklace looked appealing to me… that is, until I found out it was made out of water-soluble yarn.
More eccentric/philosophical pieces in her site. Check out the Organ Bottle accesories (water bottles shaped like human organs - stomach, kidneys), Sugar bowl and spoon (yes, they’re made out of sugar!), Memory Scarf, and the Pigment shirts (which are kind of cool, really!).

A new concept in jewelry making, Katharina Ludwig presents the Ice Jewellery Collection. These are your regular silver and gold jewelry but instead of mounting diamonds or other precious stones on them, you put ice. Real ice. Melting ice.
The following are photos and descriptions taken from Katharina Ludwig’s site:
If water itself is worn as a jewel the preciousness of water is enhanced. Put on the body it will melt by the body warmth. What will stay is just the core of it and the marks the ice leave at your skin.
Ice Earrings:
One with pigments, which leave traces on your clothes, while the earring is melting, the jewel appears on your shoulder instead on your ear.
The other one gathers a bit of water after melting in a little cup

Ice Ring
A ring with a stone out of ice. When the stone melts in contains some drops of water in a cup.

Ice Necklaces:
A chain guided in a special way and frozen into ice cubes and shapes, melted the chain extends to its full size.

Ooooo-kay now… why do you have that look on your face? The look that says “ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS?!”? Hmm?? Hmm??
So imagine how long the necklace chain will be after that whole block of ice has melted. Or how wet your shirt will be after those earrings have melted. Or how crinkly your fingers will be after that ring has melted… So many problems about this concept and I can’t even think of ONE reason why I would like to buy it. Will YOU buy this if it were to be made available in the market?

Brian (superBONG) actually just wanted to watch Colbie Caillat perform at Trinoma but we bullied him into getting a new haircut (since, being the newly elected President of his organization, we felt he needed a “power cut”) so he went with me and Tippi (Queen Neferkitty) to Menage salon where he got a mini make-over. Of course, there’s a before-after comparison:

Can you see how unhappy he was with his haircut before??? heh heh heh! Look at how happy he is after his makeover!! Awww!
What do you think?
After getting a haircut, we proceeded to the activity center where we were greeted with a multitude of fans waiting to see Colbie Caillat perform (actually, I bet about 25% didn’t really know who the performer was. They were just waiting to see what the fuss was all about).

We stood at the second floor balcony enjoying the view (see photo) and waited around for about 45 minutes… then we saw Colbie perform:

The only song I really knew before watching her perform was “Bubbly” but I kind of liked all the songs she performed and I’m thinking of downloading buying her CD. She actually sounds slightly better live!
We were REALLY hungry by the time the concert was over so, after going around debating about where to eat, we finally decided on dinner at Zong. We had the Spicy Singaporean Fish Fillet, Pan Fried Chicken coated with Salted Egg, some veggies I didn’t care much for, and good ol’ Yang Chow Fried Rice! Food was generally good but it wasn’t something you’ll hear me rave all day about.
Anyway, by the end of our “date”, we were happy that all three of us got a haircut, saw Colbie Caillat perform, and ate delicious food!

Til next time!
PS: Doesn’t Brian look so much cuter!?!?! he he he! :p

I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I’m not a big on gossip. It’s true, I’m not. Like most things, however, there comes a point when you have to make an exception. Today, I read the juiciest goss ever to hit the shores of fashionable Manila and I was instantly hooked. I read all the entries and all the comments and took them in like I was drinking ice-cold water after a 10-mile run.
Who knew Manila’s famous socialites (or social mountaineers, as one of the anon commenters said), had such dirty little secrets ranging from drug addictions to 3-million peso debts? Brian Gorell, the scorned boyfriend-slash-scam victim whistleblower (this is such a frequently-used term nowadays here in Manila, no?) dishes out some dirt on these people in his blog in an effort to pressure his ex-boyfriend, Philippine Star columnist, DJ Montano into paying him back the $70,000 he shelled out as investment on a non-existent restaurant. Read it, but I’m warning you, it’s very addictive.
I see those faces all the time at glossies like Preview and Mega fashion magazines, thinking how I wish I could be like them… have customized clothes made for me, wear something totally crazy and make people want to wear them too, have my photos taken, drink expensive champagne and brag about buying an Hermes purse or taking a trip to London on a whim… all those just seemed so glamorous and I get starry-eyed just thinking about living that kind of life. Though at the back of my mind I’ve always been aware of how frivolous that kind of life is, I just can’t help but want to just be rich, famous, and connected. Life just seems more comfortable on their side of the island.
Reading this blog has definitely changed my mind. I’d rather be drinking C2 (bottled iced tea) and chicharon (deep fried pork skin. hehe!), sitting on a ratty old couch at home with a bunch of true friends than be out partying at Embassy (popular exclusive club here in Manila), getting high on crack, and faking a glamorous life when all I really have are glamorous clothes, a tired old body, and a circle of friends who will care for me as long as I buy them coke. Ugh.

…I would love to try and get ear piercings again. You see, I’ve already had 4 failed attempts, acquired some sort of infection each time
I’ve gotten used to not wearing earrings but seeing little pairs of heaven like these makes me want to try getting my ears pierced again:

All are from Clay-Pot.com
Boo!

One of the TV shows that would command me to immediately stop my mindless channel surfing is Everyday Italian. I *love* italian food and everything that Giada de Laurentiis makes seems delicious and more importantly, simple to make!
Today, I caught Giada de Laurentiis making a couple of paninis and this Strawberry Bruschetta (photo and recipe from foodnetwork.com):

3 slices (1/2-inch-thick) rustic white bread
2 to 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
10 strawberries, sliced
3 to 5 teaspoons sugar
Heat a grill pan over medium-high heat. Grill the bread until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Spread the butter over the toasts. Arrange the sliced strawberries over the toasts. Sprinkle the strawberries with the sugar. Broil until the sugar begins to caramelize, about 2 minutes.
Note: On the show, she actually caramelized the sugar with a blow torch.
Looks YUMMY, no? Anyhoo, my cousin, my sister, and I usually use the computer and internet from midnight onwards so naturally, we also regularly have midnight snacks! One of my favorite midnight snacks is actually kind of similar to this Strawberry Bruschetta but obviously, less luxurious. It’s butter and strawberry jam on a Skyflakes cracker! Here’s what you do:

Easy peasy! Trust me, it’s really good! (Well, I bet it’s not as good as the strawberry buschetta but it’s a very good alternative if you don’t have bruschetta and fresh strawberries! :p)
