Separated at Birth

Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garcons, looks like Edna Mode (sans the eyeglasses) from The Incredibles. Was Edna Mode created with Kawakubo in mind or is it the other way around? hahaha!

Dresses for Summer!

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

One thing I hate wearing during the summer are jeans. They’re just too heavy and too thick that I bet wearing jeans during the summer can actually be harmful to one’s health. So, I say stock up on shorts, skirts, and lots of dresses.

I’ve been on a dress craze since last December and I don’t think I will be giving them up anytime soon. So, for this summer, I’m looking to purchase MORE dresses in floral and tribal/ethnic prints or in solid punchy colors. Browsed through my usual “window-shopping” online sites and these caught my fancy:

Well, the Tibi dress isn’t floral nor ethnic but plaids and checks are generally attractive to me so I instantly liked this one by Tibi. I’m also loving the art PLUS ombre feel to the Graham and Spencer dress.

Need. To. Buy. Dress. Now.

This made me smile!

Etsy > Geekery

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

One of the sites I love to browse through every now and then is Etsy. Though I don’t think I will be buying anything from there anytime soon (because the shipping cost will be more expensive than the actual item), I still like to look at the stuff there because the fresh ideas applied to your everyday fashion accessories, items for the home, etc. is just so inspiring.  It’s so much better than browsing through Multiply online stores because of the wealth of unique items.

My favorite gallery is “Geekery”.  I adore the humor and creativity evident in each of the items in this gallery.  My sense of style has always been a little quirky so I think most of the stuff under “geekery” will fit quite well in my wardrobe.  Here are some of my favorites:

Circuit Board Bookmarks (not really a fashion accessory but they’re just so cute hihi!)

3 Reasons Why…

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

…I would love to try and get ear piercings again. You see, I’ve already had 4 failed attempts, acquired some sort of infection each time :( I’ve gotten used to not wearing earrings but seeing little pairs of heaven like these makes me want to try getting my ears pierced again:

All are from Clay-Pot.com

Boo! :(

Romance in D

Monday, March 10th, 2008

After going on for years and years without seeing a play, seeing Romance in D was the perfect play to get me re-acquainted with the world of theater. Since I’m not a very good story teller, here’s a summary of Romance in D from the Dramatists Play Service, Inc.:

ROMANCE IN D takes place in two side-by-side apartments in present-day Chicago. Charles Norton, a musicologist, lives in one apartment alone with his books and music. Isabel Fox, a poet on the verge of a divorce, moves into the other apartment and puts her head in the oven in a half-baked suicide attempt. Charles, next door, smells the gas and inadvertently becomes Isabel’s savior. George Fox, Isabel’s father comes to town and tries to cheer Isabel up. Helen Norton, Charles’ mother, encourages Charles to get to know Isabel, but Charles refuses to become involved. Isabel makes the effort to befriend Charles, and Charles, try as he may to resist, falls in love. One day, when Charles and Isabel are away, Helen and George meet, and they discover that they have their own similar interests. Will Helen and George fall in love and leave the children to fend for themselves? Will Charles profess his love for Isabel and risk another heartbreak? Will Isabel go back to her husband or put her head back in the oven? All four characters use their knack for music and words as they nervously navigate the path of true love.

I was telling my friend Osang right before the play started that I prefer light and funny stories versus the heavier ones and I was SO happy that Romance in D is every bit the light and funny play I hoped it would be. Sure, it was mostly dialogue (”talky-talky” is what my mom would call it if she was there watching) but I hung onto every word and took much delight in catching the fun, wit, and meaning in every sentence! It wasn’t the least bit boring.

Another major reason why I thoroughly enjoyed watching this play is because of the superb acting. MAD props to Audie Gemora (Charles Norton), Ana Abad Santos-Bitong (Isabel Fox), Pinky Marquez (Helen Norton), and Chinggoy Alonso (George Fox) who brought the characters to life! I don’t think anyone could have played the characters better.

It was definitely a sweet, sweet, break from watching movies and TV. I can’t believe I almost forgot how much I love theater!

Romance in D was written by James Sherman, directed by Miguel Faustman for Repertory Philippines.

See play details at the Repertory Philippines website. Please watch it!

PS: Thanks to kuya Regnard, Lieza, and Osang for the ticket! :)

Me Likey: Rodnik

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

I had found these in separate pages at chickdowntown.com and was surprised to find out that they were all from the same designer, Rodnik. I love quirky and unexpected details especially on the collars and sleeves. For these items, the collars were the bait that drew me in. The colors are a little drab for my taste but that’s what colorful accessories, pants, shoes and bags are for ;) I’d buy these if only they weren’t SO expensive. Boo.

I especially like the black dress in the middle. :)

Cute food alert!

If I had these served at home everyday, I’d be really, really, thin. Too cute!

Now, I don’t really aim to post hot-off-the-press stuff in here, just the things that I find cute, amusing, interesting, or just whatever I find worth posting about :p And I think cute rice presentations deserve a blog entry in my world :p Ack.. cuteness overload! teehee!

Works of Art Right at/on Your Feet.

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

A friend of mine, Martin, whom I’ve known to be a SUPERB (I’m highlighting this because superb isn’t even enough to describe his artistic prowess) artist has recently entered into a small business customizing plain white sneakers into works of art. He lets you have free reign over the design of your shoes. If, say, you would like to have Lloromannic (yes, I like them very much!) on your shoes, he’ll paint them on a pair of plain white sneakers and you can rest assured that he will do an amazingly impeccable job at it.

Need proof? Here are some of his works. Prepared to be blown away!
