Photos from Last Week
Here are some of the photos that I took last week.

This was taken before 7 a.m. while waiting for someone to unlock the door of the Skills Lab.

Bong and Jacko (hand) were the first ones to perform the actual IV insertion with our instructor, Sir Lee. They were the only ones who enjoyed the benefits of good lighting so I’m extremely happy that I got to take a photo. Yes, that’s blood inside the catheter hub. It tells you when you’re already inside the vein and when you can advance the catheter tip further into the vein.

The one standing up is our instructor, Sir Lee

That’s Kerwin (standing up) and Ron (sitting) practicing how to operate a 3-way stopcock on a severed (dummy) arm. hehe! One of the dummy arms that we used to practice IV insertion on has a connection to a syringe with fake blood so you’ll know whether you’re inside a vein or not. Unfortunately, the because of repeated use, the dummy arm had acquired a big hole around the most frequently punctured part and I think the fake blood mechanism doesn’t work anymore
I was reallly looking forward to seeing that work!

With my newfound friends, KC and Ron.
I seriously keep forgetting that I’m in a group with potential work-mates. I refer to them as my “classmates” though in my mind I try and correct myself by reminding myself that we’re about to work, we’re already nurses, and that this is a screening process. Would *LOVE* to work with these two around though!

Hahaha! A lot of people seem to share the same fear. I used to be afraid of needles as well but now that I’ve gotten used to handling it, it’s like any other ordinary thing to me :p I didn’t even flinch when my partner inserted the needle into my vein!! I think it’s just a matter of being exposed to it and getting used to seeing it :p

I hate needles :c
Both times I donated blood I couldn’t look at the needle too long and I kept cringing. The nurses there thought I was feeling something horrible until I told them I was scared of needles! XD

Would you let me try inserting a needle to you? You said you’re used to it. lol

I remember being pricked by a needle. The nurse laughed so hard cause my face turned pale as I turned away from the view of her preparing to prick me. Dang. Why can’t technology solve this one problem of being pricked inhumanely?! It’s madness I tell you!
I’d rather get cut by a knife that be pricked by a needle. hehehe

kala_2008: whoa, I don’t mind being pricked by a needle but I certainly don’t find it… pleasant. hahaha!
Yup, some medications are very irritating to the veins.
dianaslittlehelper: We may have to use the regular ones then.
fairlady-z: weekly IV medication??
tiffy: Donate a couple more times i’m sure you’ll get used to it. ahhahaha!
Cookie: I won’t mind if you undergo IV therapy training first :p heehee
WHJ: are you serious? ROFLMAO!
chainbaby: hahaha! You just have to get used to it! See, fairlady-z used to be afraid of needles!!
