Ice Jewelry? Really, now?

A new concept in jewelry making, Katharina Ludwig presents the Ice Jewellery Collection. These are your regular silver and gold jewelry but instead of mounting diamonds or other precious stones on them, you put ice. Real ice. Melting ice.

The following are photos and descriptions taken from Katharina Ludwig’s site:

If water itself is worn as a jewel the preciousness of water is enhanced. Put on the body it will melt by the body warmth. What will stay is just the core of it and the marks the ice leave at your skin.

Ice Earrings:

One with pigments, which leave traces on your clothes, while the earring is melting, the jewel appears on your shoulder instead on your ear.

The other one gathers a bit of water after melting in a little cup

Ice Ring

A ring with a stone out of ice. When the stone melts in contains some drops of water in a cup.

Ice Necklaces:

A chain guided in a special way and frozen into ice cubes and shapes, melted the chain extends to its full size.

Ooooo-kay now… why do you have that look on your face? The look that says “ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS?!”? Hmm?? Hmm??

So imagine how long the necklace chain will be after that whole block of ice has melted. Or how wet your shirt will be after those earrings have melted. Or how crinkly your fingers will be after that ring has melted… So many problems about this concept and I can’t even think of ONE reason why I would like to buy it. Will YOU buy this if it were to be made available in the market?

NO NO NO! I can’t even think of any reason anyone would want those.

The metal hardware doesn’t even look chic… It looks cheap.

Okay I can picture these being sold in really hot water parks during the summer season. Maybe plastic rings with big ice stones that are similar to Ring Pops to help kids cool off.

But these are not high fashion items at all.

Maybe these are meant to be worn during summer? But they would melt so fast! Heehee!

    whatever are they thinking? hahaha

um… some people say that when you buy candles, you see your” money burning away”… i suppose with these, you see your money melting away… but really now,

    interesting find though giggles

marvinm: that’s a good way of looking at it! Maybe, in the future this concept will be as commonplace as candles. Come to think of it, these would be really practical because you can replace them (without worrying about the cost) and redesign with new ice cube designs… Thanks for that insight!

Oh, wearing that ice necklace during summer here in Manila sounds HEAVENLY! Maybe I’ll D-I-Y meself an ice cube necklace come April or May :p

Weird. Suppose they have the necessary equipment to save them from melting. The moment you start to wear it, it starts to melt, no?

how about ice jewelries on my halo-halo? that would be nice. :P

    osang: LOL!

ting: Yup! I suppose… Unless you’re going out wearing them in -10 C below weather. They’ll be able to last a little longer then. :p

Whoa. That is so not worth it.

    1. You can make it yourself. Just stuff your chain in the fridge and you get the accessories for free.

    2. Why would you want to make your outfit wet?o_O It doesn’t make any sense.

    3. If you’re the kind of person who, for some reason, likes wet clothes (congrats, you belong to the .000000000000000000001% of the human population), why would you want dye on it? Good luck on the washing.

    4. Everyone say it with me: Hy-po-ther-mia. What if your earlobe fell out because it got so cold?o_o Sorry, totally disgusting mental image, but you know what I mean.
