Fairy Annika

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Whipped out my camera when Annika walked out of her room wearing make-up that she put on herself! :)

She really likes to have her photo taken and she will willingly do any pose you request her to do. Future Philippine’s.Next.Top.Model. (?)

Oh, and she put that little head band herself! :) I love all my nieces and nephews but Annika’s definitely my favorite :D

Dresses for Summer!

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

One thing I hate wearing during the summer are jeans. They’re just too heavy and too thick that I bet wearing jeans during the summer can actually be harmful to one’s health. So, I say stock up on shorts, skirts, and lots of dresses.

I’ve been on a dress craze since last December and I don’t think I will be giving them up anytime soon. So, for this summer, I’m looking to purchase MORE dresses in floral and tribal/ethnic prints or in solid punchy colors. Browsed through my usual “window-shopping” online sites and these caught my fancy:

Well, the Tibi dress isn’t floral nor ethnic but plaids and checks are generally attractive to me so I instantly liked this one by Tibi. I’m also loving the art PLUS ombre feel to the Graham and Spencer dress.

Need. To. Buy. Dress. Now.

Annik-dote #1

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

My cousins told us this super funny story over dinner.

Setting: Bedtime

Annika: *restless, turning about, couldn’t sleep*

Daddy: *fast asleep, snoring*

Mommy: *slightly irritated* Annika, go to sleep! Everyone’s sleeping! Look at daddy, he’s snoring already!

Annika: *still couldn’t sleep, continues to turn*

Mommy: ANNIKA! Go to sleep! Look at daddy, he’s fast asleep and snoring!

Annika: THAT’S THE PROBLEM, MOM!

Everyone at the dinner table was laughing at this story when Kuya Conrad (Annika’s dad) asked Annika:

Daddy: You said I’m the problem, anak (child)?

Annika: *smiles*

Mommy: No she said your snoring is the problem!

Daddy: Ahh… *to Annika* Did you say I’m the problem??

Annika: Because you’re snoring, dad!! If you’re snoring, YOU’RE the problem!!

*LMAO*

Note: I’m curious as to what WHJ would tell Annika if he was Annika’s dad?? :D

Rat Trap Engrish

Friday, March 28th, 2008

My grandmother, 2 of my aunts, and I went to 168 Mall last Wednesday.  One of my aunts bought a mouse trap.  It was a folded piece of cardboard with really sticky goo in the middle.  Anyway, I read the front part of the packaging and this is what I learned:

Romantic rat night life.  This charming dashing habit is many.  This on the way fortune upons the strange monster.  Miserably miserably and miserably! die.

This was printed on the front part as a sort of description about the product.  Did you understand it?

PS: Sorry, I was able to take a photo with my phone but I can’t seem to upload it into my computer :(

This made me smile!

Bunny Mad Rush

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Since it was Easter Sunday, the hotel we stayed at in Tagaytay was having a Easter Egg Hunting contest and I suppose that for the entire Holy Week, they had 2 cages full of bunnies near the entrance.  I guess this was for entertainment purposes, to keep the kids amused while guests waited for their rooms to be fixed.

So while waiting for OUR room to get fixed Annika amused herself by trying to feed the bunnies with a leaf of cabbage:

Man, those bunnies rushed for it like they haven’t eaten in 5 days.  It was a bit scary because it reminded me of this scene in I am Legend where Will Smith was forced into a corner by a gajillion zombies/vampires

Luisms and Annik-dotes

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

I have 3 pamangkins that I live with at home - 1 nephew, Luis (the one I bragged about in my last post, teeheehee), and 2 nieces, Annika (4 y.o.) and Mika (2 y.o.).  Trust me, you wouldn’t want to be alone with these three kids when they’re all hyper because you will find yourself confused about who to listen to.  They will just talk, talk, talk, nonstop, and call your attention all at the same time!

My cousin (their mom), my sister, and I always joke about starting a journal documenting all the funny, witty, and interesting things that they say and do but never got around to actually making one.  Since I’ve already started talking about them (and I really can’t stop now, sorry!), I think this might be a good place to start this mini-project :)

There are only two for now, Luisms and Annik-dotes,  because I can’t think of a title for Mika. haha! :D (Help me think of one?)

To start off, a Luism:

Mommy: Luis, get out of the pool na.

Luis: *not listening, still swimming*

Daddy: Luis, get out of the pool na, let’s come back next time.

Luis: *in an obviously irritated and frustrated tone* Next time?!?! When?? When I’m dead??

Mommy and Daddy: WHAT DID YOU SAY, ANAK (Child)??

Auntie Denise: what, what, what? *jaw drops*

“Happy and Sad Mixed Together”

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Before heading home, we made a quick stop at Gourmet’s Coffee and Tea to have some coffee and dessert. As we were waiting for our orders to arrive, someone asked my 5-year-old nephew, Luis, if he was happy. His reply was an honest: “I feel happy… and sad. Happy and sad mixed together!” I don’t know why, but this is one of the best answers from a 5-year-old. I mean, with a relatively limited vocabulary, he managed to describe quite accurately how he felt at the time. He really amazes me with the breadth and depth of his knowledge and understanding!

Anyway, I felt happy and sad mixed together, too. :( Details on the uber short vaycay in my next blog entry. It’s 2:34 a.m. and I have to wake up for my Basic Life Support seminar tomorrow. *sigh*

Excited About My Pseudo-Vaycay!

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

Since I haven’t been working nor studying for the past 9 months, you probably think that I was on an extended vacation. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Don’t let my inactivity fool you. Though I wasn’t working nor studying, I really wouldn’t consider all that idle time as vacation. Vacation should feel like you’re escaping from your daily grind and I don’t think I was in any sort of “escape” during those nine months. Vacation isn’t boring, and 90% of the time I was bored out of my wits. Everything I felt, experienced, and did, during those 9 months couldn’t be farther from my definition of “vacation”.

So after 9 months of non-vacation hiatus, I’m going on a semi-real vacation. I’m going to stay in a hotel in Tagaytay. (I know I’m pathetic but please indulge me! Nyahaha!) Yes, I know this isn’t much of a big deal. I know it’s not like going to Bohol or Thailand or somewhere that’s actually nice to visit, but for someone as deprived as I am, it’s good enough. heehee! It’s a “pseudo-vaycay” because I’m going to be working a bit from there as well, but let’s not dwell on this :p

I can’t believe I’m this excited about going somewhere so common, and so near (for an out of town trip). At some point, I could easily opt out of a trip to Tagaytay because it was too familiar and boring. Now, with less time and less resources, something that used to be so common has become a luxury. That 3 hour ride that I could easily give up is now something I am looking forward to doing.

It’s true that you learn to be more appreciative of all the things you have when you have so little.  :)
