On March 11, 2011, Japan was struck by an extremely powerful earthquake located off its northeastern coast. The resulting tsunami ravaged whole towns and acres of land. The reported casualties number in the thousands and the death toll is climbing. Power blackouts affect numerous areas, while food, shelter, and medical aid are sorely needed, especially in the most affected regions. Some damaged nuclear power reactors are in crisis, with a danger of containment breaches and meltdown. Read more about the disaster here.

Hello Kitty Online, Sanrio Digital, and our various partner companies are organizing donations to charity, but in addition we also want to give HKO players a chance to help the people who have suffered so much in this catastrophe.

HKO therefore announces the special event HKO Japan Earthquake Aid, to benefit Save the Children as it carries out critical relief work in the affected zones.

If you are interested (or do not have time to participate in this event) you can make donations directly at the Save the Children donation page.

Event Details:

This event runs from March 17, 2011 to March 21, 2011 EST.

Step 1: Obtain the following set of items:

  • 50 Cherry Tree Wood
  • 100 White Bread
  • 50 Green Tea Leaf
  • 50 Veggie Tempura

Step 2: Give these items to a Game Master (GM) at Sanrio Harbour during the event period.

Step 3: Repeat as many times as you want to increase the total donation amount.

Every time you hand in a set of the required items, you are adding to a point tally. At the end of the event we will calculate the final donation based on the point tally and transfer that amount to Save the Children.

Event Special Prize:

Hand in one set of items (50 wood, 10 bread, 50 tea leaf, and 50 tempura) to receive a Heart Teddy Bear as reward for participation (maximum 1 per character).

Remember: every set you hand in equals a higher donation toward relief efforts in Japan. There is no limit on the number of sets you can hand in. Please help the victims of this disaster as they take their first steps on the road to recovery. Thank you and see you in the game!

Surprise! Hello Kitty Figurine! Another motivation to eat cereals! :)

You are cordially invited to a special HKO charity event & celebration: from October 28 to November 15, 2010, take part in Hello Kitty’s Birthday Cheer! There’s a lot going on during this event and only a limited time to experience it, so we have created this handy guide to the celebrations. Keep reading to become an expert on Hello Kitty’s Birthday Cheer!

 October 28 to November 15, 2010

Getting started

The Party Clown in Sanrio Harbour will point you toward a secret passage to London, where festivities for Hello Kitty’s birthday are underway. Follow this quest to participate in this special event and travel to a new mini-zone!

Your efforts during this event will determine the sum of money that Sanrio Digital will donate to two worthy causes.

On October 18, super typhoon Megi slammed into the Philippines, causing widespread damage including rendering 200,000 people homeless and destroying hundreds of thousands of tons worth of food crops. The aid organization Save the Children is working to provide relief in the affected regions. The higher your donation score in this special event, the more money Sanrio Digital will donate to Save the Children. Two thirds of the total donation amount are reserved for Save the Children.

One third of the total donation is reserved for the Asian Youth Orchestra, which offers tuition-free opportunities for young pre-professional musicians to hone their skills and be exposed to varied artistic experiences.

Sparklers – a new hand-held item to cheer up monsters

We have added sparklers to HKO. These sparklers are hand-held fireworks that never run out and that let you cheer up grumpy monsters.

There are 11 sparklers to find/acquire. Your very first sparkler is obtained from the Item Mall free of charge. Sparklers are sold by the Cheerful Merchant in London. The Item Mall also offers two sparklers for people who want to skip a few upgrade stages.

There are two types of sparklers: basic and upgraded. Basic sparklers can be upgraded once using a Blue, Red, or Gold Gem. An upgraded sparkler cannot be upgraded again.

Precise steps to upgrade your sparkler

Unequip the sparkler and make sure it is in your inventory. Right-click on the upgrade gem and a dialog window will appear. Ignore the prompt and instead right-click on a sparkler. Then left-click on the green check mark in the dialog window and your sparkler will be upgraded.

Donating Birthday Gifts

When you cheer up a grumpy monster you have a chance to get a Birthday Gift from it. Hello Kitty will take the gifts you bring her so she can donate them to charity. The more gifts you bring, the higher your overall (and your guild’s) donation score. Nicely wrapped presents are worth more, so you should gift-wrap each present you find before you give it to Hello Kitty. Note: Red Gems can also be donated to Hello Kitty (but cannot be wrapped).

Blue, Red, and Gold Gems

Three types of gems are used to upgrade your sparkler. The item tooltip of each sparkler will tell you what you need to upgrade. Blue Gems upgrade sparklers and have no other uses. Red Gems can upgrade sparklers or be donated to Hello Kitty. Blue and Red Gems can only be used once and then vanish; Gold Gems (obtained from the Item Mall) can be used to upgrade an unlimited number of sparklers.

Dream Fragments

Dream Fragments are the currency used to purchase sparklers from the Cheerful Merchant. You earn Dream Fragments by donating gifts to Hello Kitty and by cheering up grumpy monsters.

The Main Event

On November 1 (Hello Kitty’s birthday) and on November 15 (end of the event) there will be a main event held at a specific time. Pay attention to the system messages and GM instructions to participate.

Item Mall updates & specials

Throughout this event, look out for special offers in the Item Mall! You can find special bundle offers containing useful items that will give you a leg up against the competition. And, back by popular demand, we have reintroduced special Hello Kitty vintage rare items in the item mall – get them quick while they are still on discount!

Find out more about these great deals at the Item Mall Specials page and keep your ears open for in-game announcements about surprise flash-discounts!

We hope you enjoy Hello Kitty’s Birthday Cheer!

November 1 is Hello Kitty’s birthday and Hello Kitty Online has something special in store for you! The fun starts on October 28, 2010, in London! Read on for a preview.

Attention new players: we recommend that you download the full version of HKO (it’s free!) now to make sure you are all set to join this amazing event!

The Fun Starts Oct 28, 2010

New mechanic!
And we’re not talking about when Badzt-Maru tries to fix stuff! On Hello Kitty’s birthday, try a fascinating new system to deal with grumpy monsters! There’s a saying about honey and vinegar…

Get a little taste of winter!
Hello Kitty’s Birthday Cheer will take you to a jolly little area called the Snowy Wonderland: it’s wonderful, it has snow, and peril stalks among the snowmen and party balloons.

New items!
Some of them belong to the fireworks family! Some can be upgraded! Plus: Learn how to wrap a gift! ‘Nuff said!

Quaternary Megafauna!
According to the good Professor Doctor (and many other less illustrious authorities), animals of gigantic size trundled all over our planet until just over 10,000 years ago, before being wiped out in the Quaternary extinction event. In Sanrio Land there was no extinction event….quaternary-megafauna3_modified-even-smaller.jpg

Special hats!
Come, be merry, and behold some very slick and fashionable party hats. These hats are so fantastic, they risk blowing themselves away! You might even manage to own one yourself!

Another good cause!
Hello Kitty Online is about helping people, and this event is no exception! Participate in this funfest to earn rewards and generate donations to charity – all for free! Compete as an individual or a guild, or just participate to have a good time - your efforts will count towards charity either way!

There will be cake.
Maybe. Who doesn’t enjoy a bit of cake after completing a sequence of arduous and demanding tasks?

Join us for birthday fun and games beginning on October 28, 2010. We’ll post more details about this epochal event a day or two before it begins, so check back here!

The Hello Kitty Online Team

We have a new event for you HKO fans – share your best costumes for Halloween in Hello Kitty Online and get a chance to win tons of SLP! In HKO’s Spooky Makeover, we want to see how you dress up for trick-or-treating in-game! Your costume could be scary, cute, fun, or eccentric! Will you dress up as a vampire, a skeleton, a ghost or a witch? Or will you be creative and make your own costume ensemble? This is a fun way to earn Sanrio Loyalty Points (you can use Sanrio Loyalty Points to buy cool HKO stuff in the Item Mall!).

There will be a Grand Prize Winner and 5 Runner-Up Winners for best costumes in-game!

Each submission will earn you 500 Sanrio Loyalty Points. Grand Prize and Runner-Up Winners will earn 5,000 and 3,000 points, respectively.

If you haven’t downloaded Hello Kitty Online or created a SanrioTown account yet, click here. You will only need a few minutes to get set up!

Submission Guidelines:

  1. Download Hello Kitty Online and Create a SanrioTown account.
  2. Participants must use SanrioTown blogs to write about their makeover with pictures/related screenshots of their entry. For a blog tutorial, please click here. If you want to blog in HKO, read Using the in-game mini-blog feature.
  3. Each entry must include at least 100 words describing your makeover and 1 screenshot of your costumes. Please remember that the criteria for winning aren’t based on the price of your costume! Just because you have an expensive fashion item does not ensure you winning the grand prize. Be creative and be original!
  4. Participants must send the link of the entry to marketing@hellokitty.com and use “HKO’s Spooky Makeover” as the subject of the email (without the quotes).
  5. Members can submit up to 2 entries each; all entries will be considered provided that they meet the guidelines and terms and conditions listed on this page.

Terms and Conditions:

1. Competition starts on UTC (or GMT/Zulu) October 11, 2010 and ends on October 31, 2010.

2. Winners will be announced on November 5, 2010. Loyalty Points will be given to winners on the same day.

3. Winning entries will be selected by SanrioTown.

4. All blog entries are property of SanrioTown.

I remember my first deep-fried Mars bars. Overflowing with sweetness!!! [adding to that is the vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup on top >.deep-fried-mars-bars.jpg

I tried it out at Chippy British Take-Away.

The Hello Kitty Online charity event, Chocolate Harbour Rescue is entering its last week and the numbers coming in are huge! Thanks to your efforts, Sanrio Digital will be donating to Oceana and UNICEF, and this looks like it may be the biggest donation so far in HKO history. But more can be done: this is why we are now calling on all guilds to go Full Throttle on the Chocolate!

From September 24, 2010 12:00AM EST (12:00PM GMT +8) until the end of Chocolate Harbour Rescue, you can participate in a Guild-based competition for charity: Full Throttle on the Chocolate.

Here’s how it works: the participating members of the top 10 guilds who post the biggest gains in donation points starting September 24 will receive rewards at the end of the event!

Since we are counting gains in donation points in the given period and not cumulative points, it does not matter who is leading the ranks now. All that matters is how many points you can earn from September 24-30. The winning guilds will be rewarded with Sanrio Loyalty Points (SLP), which you can use to buy fabulous stuff in the Item Mall.

Remember, only the donations made from September 24 onwards will be counted in the guild competition! These contributions will also be included in the grand total for the calculation of Sanrio Digital’s donation for Oceana and UNICEF.

The harder you work, the greater your Guild’s impact on the real world! No matter how well you place – whether you come in first or last – you will make a real difference to problems affecting our planet!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask our friendly in-game GMs or send us an email at help@hellokittyonline.com .

Good luck and have fun!

From September 9 to September 30, 2010, players of Hello Kitty Online can participate in Chocolate Harbour Rescue, the chocolatiest event ever! Sanrio Harbour is in trouble – everything is covered in chocolate! Find out why and help cleanup efforts by participating in a brand new HKO charity event. chocolate-harbour-rescue.jpg

September 9 – 30, 2010

There’s chocolate everywhere in Sanrio Harbour: in the sea, on the beach, in the trees. The local wildlife is ill from eating too much chocolate and the residents are struggling to cope with weight gain and sugar rush. Even worse, there are reports of enormous chunks of chocolate terrorizing the beach! Where is the chocolate coming from? Can it be stopped before it smothers everything in an ecologically hazardous yet delicious coating?

Fortunately, Pochacco is on the case! He is organizing the Chocolate Harbour Rescue to reclaim Sanrio Harbour from the chocolaty invasion. To get started, adventurers with nerves of steel and a heroic tolerance for cocoa simply need to speak with Pochacco in Sanrio Harbour.

Participate in this event and your efforts will be converted into charity! See below for details.

Why You Should Play Hello Kitty’s Chocolate Harbour Rescue:

·         Chocolaty mayhem!

·         Chocolate pets!

·         Hazardous ambulating chocolates!

·         Gigantic chocolate titans!

·         Transform into a piece of chocolate!

·         Chocolate milk! And cookies!

·         It’s for charity!

Play for a Good Cause!

Hello Kitty Online players will mop up chocolates during the event to automatically generate donation points. At the end of the event (or when the cap is reached) Sanrio Digital will use total donation points generated by all HKO players to calculate donations for the following two organizations:

50% of the total donation will go to Oceana, an international organization focused on ocean conservation. Oceana is currently researching the impact of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the largest such spill in history.

The other 50% of the donation total will go to UNICEF to contribute to relief efforts in Pakistan, where massive floods have destroyed much of the country, with over 20 million people affected. Unfortunately, the lack of contributions is jeopardizing relief operations. Here at HKO we think the plight of disaster victims supersedes all other considerations, and we urge everyone to help. Please click on the previous link to find out how you can donate directly.

Not only can you donate to the above two organizations simply by playing Hello Kitty Online, but we also encourage you to donate to or volunteer for a charity of your choice. If we all work together, we can make the world a better place!

Good luck and we hope you enjoy Hello Kitty Online’s Chocolate Harbour Rescue! Login to the game or click here to download Hello Kitty Online!
