Hong Kong – October 31, 2008: Hello Kitty turns 34 on November 1, 2008. To celebrate the occasion, Sanrio Digital today announced a birthday party for Hello Kitty that will be held inside Hello Kitty Online, the eagerly anticipated MMORPG. The celebration begins on Saturday November 1st, and will include a birthday party lasting through the week-end, a week-long series of in-game quests and events, and a charity event that lets players convert effort they spend inside the game into real cash donations to charity.

Hello Kitty Online is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Role-Playing Game) based on the popular Sanrio characters. The game transports players into the cute and cuddly world of Sanrio Land and is fully integrated with official Sanrio portal SanrioTown.com, which utilizes blogs, email, video sharing, games and more to create a digital and social experience accessible at any time, even in-game. The game is currently in Founders’ Beta phase. The present version of Hello Kitty Online will shut down on November 8, 2008, to allow the development team to continue work on the game and prepare for Open Beta. Current players, however, will retain their characters and certain benefits in future versions of the game.

There are a range of exciting events and activities planned for Hello Kitty’s birthday and the final week of the Founders’ Beta.

1) Hello Kitty’s Birthday Party - November 1-2
Hello Kitty is celebrating her birthday and you are invited!  The preparations for this grand celebration are now complete!  We have transformed the center of London and the Opera House in Paris into the best party places in all of Sanrio Land!  In addition to that, we have several events in store for all of you!

In celebration of her birthday, Hello Kitty will make special appearances in Hello Kitty Online on November 1st and 2nd.  Players will be treated to a special birthday quest for Hello Kitty and enjoy special mini-events this special day.

2) Guild Competition: Build New York - November 1-6
It’s time to build New York!  The guilds of Hello Kitty Online will be competing in a race to build two of New York City’s most famous landmarks: The Statue of Liberty and The Empire State Building.

Representatives of the participating guilds will be called to trade in their Empire Keys and Liberty Keys for special Empire State and Liberty land certificates.  The first guilds to complete building these landmarks will receive formal recognition in the new zone and will be awarded special items in the next version of the game.

3) “Food for Friends” Charity Event – November 1-6
Remembering children who are less fortunate, Hello Kitty Online will host an in-game guild  contest called “Food for Friends”, in which the efforts of guilds will be translated into donations to charity. Guilds interested in participating will produce raw materials on their farms and craft them into specific food items. Guilds will submit prepared food items to a Game Master. The guilds with the highest contributions will be declared winners. The winning guilds will receive a permanent page on www.hellokittyonline.com, special guild privileges for open beta, and a small feature on their guild including an interview with the guild representative(s) to be posted on official blog and press releases.  Based on the total prepared food donated by all guilds, Sanrio Digital will then make cash donations to UNICEF and the Asian Youth Orchestra.

Please refer to the Hello Kitty Online Event Blog for screenshots and more information about Hello Kitty’s birthday and associated events.

At 09:15 HKT,  the server was taken down for maintenance and for patch updates. Players will have to restart their Hello Kitty Online game client in order for the Autoupdater to run. The server is now back up as of 10:20 HKT, and players may now log-in to the game.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will be posting announcements within the day regarding the updates included in today’s patch. Thank you for your patience, and enjoy the game!

Here is a list of critical fixes made through the update for October 21 2008, solving some important server and network issues.

  1. Fixed a critical lobby server error, which caused it to crash whenever some players would try to connect using a certain version of the old Hello Kitty Online CB client.
  2. Fixed the portal problem between maps.
  3. Fixed the log-in problem, which caused players to get stuck in the log-in screen when the network is slow.
  4. Added the “Network Connection” signal. At the bottom right corner, there is a small HKO Network Connection symbol symbol that will indicate the status of the network (Green means connection is good, yellow means connection is below average, and red means connection is really bad) Players can always view their network performance.

Hello everyone! There is a new download manager available at the Hello Kitty Online Download Center!   Here’s the list of  improvements over the last installer:

  • Added and fixed P2P resume function allowing users to resume their download after exiting the download manager.
  • Users now have all the advantages of downloading from a P2P network.
  • Faster download rates

The Download Manager is a small file that you install on your PC, and which then begins downloading the full Hello Kitty Online game client.  Downloading the game may take several hours on a slow connection, or 1-2 hours on a fast one.  While you wait, the Download Manager lets you enjoy a fully voice-acted interactive tutorial that recreates the Hello Kitty Online game experience.  Even better, the Download Manager can be closed at any time, and when it is next started the download will resume automatically without having to restart from the beginning.

The Download Manager contains no spyware or malware.

Today’s update fixes some translation problems and makes some functional tweaks to the game, please feel free to test these updates:

  1. Fixed the wrong spelling of “London”
  2. Translated the Chinese description in some quest rewards
  3. Players can now gather “Green Tea Leaves” (New seeds must be bought)
  4. Players can now split items in their inventory using shift + left-click (instead of shift + right-click)
  5. Default Channel changed to “Map Channel”
  6. Dialog for Guild NPC in London has been fixed
  7. Dialog for Mini Game NPC in London has been fixed
  8. Crop growth rate has been adjusted
  9. Pet’s hunger index won’t change if they are not equipped

Hello Kitty Online is proud to announce its largest in-game event yet: the building of New York City! Starting October 17, 2008, players of the Hello Kitty Online Founders’ Beta will be able to participate in a series of quests to collect and organize materials for the building of New York, a new area that will appear in the next phase of the game.

Players who successfully complete all the required quests will have the names of their character permanently recorded on virtual commemorative plaques located throughout the new area (the plaques will appear in future versions of the game’s North American edition). It’s a unique opportunity to leave your mark on Hello Kitty Online!

That is just one example of Hello Kitty Online’s commitment to players who participate in the Founders’ Beta. Founders also enjoy permanent rewards and status, and will retain much of their characters’ progress into the launch version of Hello Kitty Online.
