K-On!: Akiyama Mio

September 24th, 2010 by Nanao-Chan

Shy and introverted, Akiyama Mio is a member of the Light Music Club and a bassist. She plays a left-handed, 3-Color Sunburst Fender Jazz Bass with a tortoiseshell pickguard. Mio initially planned to join the Literary Club, but was forced by Ritsu Tainaka (her childhood friend and the club drummer) to join the Light Music Club. Mio is an academic achiever, and she gets excellent grades in school, though she hates listening to subjects that involve macabre experiences such as ghosts, blood, barnacles and haunted houses.

Akiyama Mio also dislikes being the center of attention, which is why she chose the bass as her musical instrument. Along with Yui, Mio is one of the band’s primary vocalists, though because of her dislike being in the spotlight, she tries to avoid being the lead vocalist as much as possible, only volunteering to perform whenever Yui is unable to.

Mio is more technical when it comes to music, and Yui often comes to her when she is in need of more guitar tutorials. She writes most of the club’s songs, even though the lyrics were deemed a little odd and too girlish, featuring words such as “Light and Fluffy Time!”

Vampire Knight: Yuki Cross

September 3rd, 2010 by Nanao-Chan

Yuki Cross is the adoptive daughter of Cross Academy’s headmaster, Kaien Cross. She’s a first year student at Cross Academy and a Prefect tasked to monitor and keep peace among the Day Class, which consists mostly of human students, and the Night Class, which is composed of vampires. Yuki is later revealed to be a pureblooded vampire princess, Yuki Karan. Her mother, Juri, sacrificed herself to seal Yuki’s true nature as a rare pureblood vampire, allowing her to live as an ordinary human girl for a decade.

Prior to her transformation, Yuki was mocked for being flat-chested, resembling a young boy. She’s generally a cheerful and comical person. Despite being considered a little stupid and academically incompetent, Yuki remains loyal and protective of her close friends. She is often kept ignorant by other characters who know more about goings-on, which results in her character feeling guilty for being unaware of the suffering of other characters.

Dragon Age: Morrigan

August 27th, 2010 by Nanao-Chan

Powerful, cunning and pragmatic—this is Morrigan, a Witch of the Wilds in Dragon Age: Origins. The Witches of the Wilds is a clan of shapeshifting sorceresses who once terrorized the Korcari Wilds in the southern regions of Ferelden. Morrigan is depicted as beautiful, cruel and manipulative, and despises the race of man at large, even if she finds herself intrigued by them. She commands powerful magicks and the ability to shapeshift into various animals, making her a valuable ally and a fearsome opponent. Morrigan is the second companion who can join the player’s party in the game, and is one of the romance options available for male greywardens.

She is the daughter of Flemeth, a legendary and fearsome witch who has walked the Korcari Wilds for centuries untold. It was Flemeth who kept Morrigan separate from the nearby villages and taught her to value power over everything else, and because of this, Morrigan is unsympathetic, cold and callous. Morrigan greatly loathes anything that has to do with love and compassion, preferring to stick to her “survival of the fittest” philosophy.

Final Fantasy: Black Mage and White Mage!

July 22nd, 2010 by Nanao-Chan

Have you ever dreamed of turning somebody into a frog? Or do you think it would be amazing if you could shock baddies with electrifying bolts of thundaga and hurl sizzling balls of firaga at bird-brained bullies? If you think so, then you must be a Black Mage at heart! The “Black Mage” is one of the most famous and iconic character classes in the Final Fantasy franchise. Traditionally depicted as dark figures wearing blue or black robes and wide-brimmed hats that shadowed their faces save for their gleaming yellow eyes, Black Mages inspired awe and fear in the Final Fantasy games. They possess a wide selection of elemental spells that they can cast to wreak havoc in the battlefield and obliterate anyone who dares to cross their way.

Alodia Gosiengfiao, a Filipina Cosplayer, combined hotness and magic by cosplaying as a sexy black mage, deviating from the traditional black mages such as Final Fantasy IX’s Vivi Orunitia, yet retaining some costume elements that made her look like one undeniably. It would be amazing to see her bake people with magic!

That’s not all, though! Ashley Gosiengfiao, Alodia’s sister, also participated in the cosplay as a White Mage—a mage specializing on recuperative and support magicks!

White Mages in Final Fantasy are usually seen in immaculate white robes with hoods pulled over their heads, featuring red, triangular patterns on the cuffs of their sleeves and the hems of their robes. These sisters make an excellent magical tag-team, don’t you think so?
