The next winery we visited was Clos Pegase, further down in Calistoga, CA. Clos is the French word for an enclosed vineyard, and Pegase means Pegasus.

The Clos Pegase winery mixes modern art, different sculptures of Bacchus (god of wine) and antique items in decorating it’s courtyard and winery. The architecture utilizes the location’s natural landscape.

This Thumb stands about 5.5 ft. I heard the artist didn’t make any more sculptures of other body parts. hehe…

A sculptor I am like and familiar with, Henry Moore’s mother earth greets you as you enter the courtyard.
The cellar itself is carved out of one big rock right where the winery stands.

another sculpture of bacchus
There is a big open “hall” at the end of this tunnel where they have really cool parties.

moist, cool and dark - perfect for making wine

Perfect scuplture for Clos Pegase

using old and modern way of wine making
Ok, by now you would’ve noticed that I am interested in the art, architecture and landscape, more than the wine. ![]()
