Taumbayan
The first time we passed by Taumbayan, we thought that it was a bar or some kind of place to hang out without kids because it was closed at around 4pm. Good thing, we had another chance to try it out…

Ensalada Platter (P120) Inisteam na native gulay na may bagoong Balayan. Vegetables cooked the al dente way.
My HB ordered this to pair it with his protein dish. I just gobbled some so I can have vegetables in my system.

Bar-BQ ni Manong Jaime (P105) Pork bbq sticks na timplang estero.
Another winner for me because of the sweet sauce used for marination and the pork did not look too dry because they wiped the bbq with the sauce one more time before they served it to us. I just had a few bite then AD and JX was the one who ate it. JX, I thought you don’t like meat or maybe I only thought so! It was also the same for AD when he was around 1 and a half years old that he grabbed a BBQ stick and ate it. Actually, he enjoyed eating it that he almost finished a stick.

Inihaw na Adobo (P160) Liempong inadobo tsaka inihaw.
Loved the grilled adobong liempo!
Meat was tenderly smoked!

Kasuy Kare Kare (P330) Ox Tripe & Short Ribs sa malinamnam na Cashew Sauce.
I love to munch on kasuy (but only in moderation because it makes me cough or have a itchy throat after eating). The kasuy made me order Taumbayan’s kare kare because it is not your usual fare to have it with kasuy. Usual nut would be the plain peanuts. As I tasted the sauce, I caught a tiny hint of kasuy that I wished I could’ve tasted more. One could see the chopped kasuy in the sauce but one cannot really taste the kasuy flavor which made me sad. Maybe the kasuy used was not tasty or was it the sauce too diluted? But mind you, almost all customers ordered this one, maybe bec it was their weekly special. I even overheard that someone took home an order of it after eating it at the restaurant.
I liked the place because it has no pretense and no need to be stressed as we were with our hyperactive kids. Almost carienderia style place. Come just as you are and be prepared to sweat. No aircon but that’s okay. They also serve simple meals from the can (in short, canned goods). Actually, I had fun checking out their menu. Honestly, I would love to go back there and try their other weekly specials (they have 5 sets which they rotate).
We also enjoyed the place because there was an art gallery at the time of our visit. The art pieces were our (me and the kids) conversation subject to distract them while HB was taking photos of the dishes or while waiting for the food to be served. They also feature photo exhibit.
FYI. Almost all of the table were filled up with GMA 7 staff so I’m not sure if ABS-CBN staff also hang out at Taumbayan.
