Malacca

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I know HB’s excited to try Malacca so we went there even if we (me and the 2 kids) were dead tired.  It was not even past 7pm but we had an early day so I feel so weak already.

Malacca-5

Bak Kut Teh (P180) - Fresh, tender, meaty pork ribs, whole garlic paired with traditional Chinese herbs simmered into a rich and nutritious soup.

Definitely on OUR list to order.  I suddenly remembered our trip to Singapore and we made sure try the MUST eats there and one of them is this Bak Kut Teh.  This soup was not new to me as I’ve tasted this already in my younger years at home.  I never attempted to know what ingredients were in this soup to make one because when I was in Singapore, I saw a quicker way to have one in your home.  I bought several packs of Bak Kut Teh with me. No brainer, just add water, add pork, beef or chicken then just put the sachet with the herbs inside and tada!  Let it boil and hmmmm, your soup smells good la!

This soup was good!  I just love to sip the hot soup and taste the garlic flavor!  The pork was so tender.  AD had an easy time eating it.  JX loved the soup becuase of its flavor (He is starting to discover good tasting food!).  It is good to sip the soup while it’s hot so you won’t see the oil settling.  If you do, reheating would be better than taking it all in your tummy.

Dolce (Sweet)

Dolce Vita-1

Flavors are psitachio, lemon sherbet, lindt chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and more which I now forgot.  (Never rely on your memory alone! hahaha)

Dolce Vita-4

Dolce Vita-5

Definitely sweet.  For me,  I liked the lemon sherbet because of its sweet and sour taste.  All others were too sweet for me.   It is either my palate was affected because I just finished from a brunch buffet or it is really sweet.  Anyway, you can have a taste if you like.  Just visit their 1st branch at the ground floor of SM MoA, side of the IMAX theater.  I forgot to take note of the nearby restaurant but they are beside the escalator and near the restroom.

We got the large size gelato that can accomodate 6 flavors.  I was hesitant at first because it looks dirty and I wonder if you can really taste the gelato with small scoops each and it is shared for two.  But I was wrong.  You can easily identify which you’ll love and which you won’t.  Easy as that.

I’m Not A Burger Fan

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

I’m a rice person.  I can eat burgers but I’ll always be in the lookout for rice.  I’d choose rice over burgers or pizza.  I like pasta but it can never replace rice in my stomach.

Last Saturday, we decided to just go out and chill.  HB chose the place, as usual.  Murray and D’Vine.  Burger Joint with wine all over the place.  Murray is the former Brava so do not wonder what it replaced.  I guess people just wanted a place that served burgers + wine instead of the usual very casual burger joint where you can just have sodas so they were happy to see Murray. It was well received because when we got there, it was almost full. We wanted to just stay outside to hang out but AD didn’t want to because he said he’ll perspire. So, off we went to the 2nd level.

Murray and D Vine-13

We got the Spicy beef burger (P245 or P295)…it was spicy alright.  We didn’t let AD taste it because we know he can’t take it.  I didn’t even dare have a second bite after my first.  Too spicy.  I was contented with my burger…the burger below…

Murray and D Vine-12

…My Son-In-Law’s Beef Blue Cheese Burger (P345 or P395) …it was just the word blue cheese that got me.  The burger was good tasting but nothing to rave about.  Told you, I’m not a burger fan.

Murray and D Vine-15

…an order of fries for the kids who happily munched and munched and munched until there was none.

Murray and D Vine-17

It is nice to see that JX at his age, knows how to share.  I hope he continues this as he gets older like AD.

Murray is beside Tatami, the Japanese restaurant near Abe.  Do share with me if you love this burger joint.  Any reason for me to go back?  Or just visit any Brothers Burger or McDo or Jollibee for a burger fix?  Let me know!

Unstoppable FroYo Craze ~ Red Mango

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Red Mango Birthday-16

Will this froyo craze be like the Zagu and Quickly? There’s so many froyo places that I’ve lost count and can even differentiate which is better.  Every or almost every mall has their onw version of forzen yoghurt and this is the newest addition in the Phils w/c my HB raves about ever since he got his first taste in LA ~ RED MANGO.

Red Mango Birthday-10

We just got the medium sized Green Tea froyo with 2 toppins (Kiwi + Strawberries) for P120 + 30 (2 toppings).  For two or more toppings, you’ll only pay P10 per succeeding topping.  You can also get a swirl of two froyo flavors (Original or Green Tea) but I decided to get just one flavor ~ green tea so I can really taste the green tea flavor.

You’ll see that JX is all grown up and already part of our food trip.  He was very quick in getting the spoon and wanting to taste this yummy treat.  A very different food from his bland dinner.  He really knows his food.  He even knows where to sit and who to sit beside when we eat ~ his Poppa.  Because with his Poppa, he can get to eat anything.  What his Poppa eats, he also eats.  Oh boy, another AD in the making!

I liked this version of froyo but then, I guess, I liked almost every froyo I tasted!  Just don’t let me taste it ALL at the same time, because by then, I’ll have to really sit down and be serious on who to choose as the best frozen yoghurt. Red Mango is creamy and has the tanginess of a yoghurt.  I liked it.  I also liked how the fruits were fresh and thinly sliced.  The medium-sized yoghurt was not enough for us but we had not yet had our dinner so that’s it for the meantime.

Red Mango Birthday-13

We were obviously hungry because it was barely 5minutes that the yoghurt and this waffle were gone!  I loved this waffle (P85)!  Topped with cream cheese and blueberry, hot from the waffle machine, we quickly gobbled it all up!  2 adults with 2 kids.  Gone in a few seconds!  Yummy!  The waffle was light and crispy.  It was just great!  I’d like to order another if this was already our dessert time but I’d like to have my rice please.  We added P40 for a serving of the original froyo.  It was also super with the waffle!  Hot and cold combined!

Red Mango Birthday-4

Do not imitate us.  Go to Red Mango when you had your lunch or dinner or if it’s your snacktime so you can really enjoy the froyo, waffle or even the blender/smoothie!

Red Mango is across Fitness First Gym and Toys ‘R Us at the 3rd level of TriNoMa!  They are on their soft opening.  No discount! :)   But they give out fliers with free toppings on your next visit!  Hopefully, they’ll open in Makati!

My Fave Cake ~ Le Royale!

Friday, January 16th, 2009

Le Royale Birthday-14

I just can’t wait to get my hands on this cake!  I remember that this was one of my favorite cake at THE CAKE CLUB event because it was like eating Ferrero Rocher in a cake form.  I decided to let the family try the cake on an important occasion, my sister’s birthday and our 6th year wedding anniversary.

I just love the rich Dark Valrhona chocolate mousse with the hazelnut crispy!  It breaks off the richness of the mousse and adds excitement as you try to enjoy every bite.  We barely noticed the taste of the almond meringue but I would think that it also helped tone down the richness of the chocolate mousse so you’ll have more slices of it than just one.   But be careful not to finish off the whole cake for it would take you forever to lose those calories.

Try a slice at The Cake Club at Rockwell and get to taste my favorite cake!

Whole cake cost P1,400.
