Petra & Pilar Place
Ever since Chef Ed Q revealed his new baby in town, Petra & Pilar, I can’t wait to go there because Chef Ed mentioned that it was carinderia style of restaurant. It made us curious about this place and so we went after a week it opened.
I don’t know what makes me want to eat embutido when I see it…maybe because it makes me eat more rice or I’m just really fond of embutido. So, when I saw this roll wrapped in aluminum foil and knew it was embutido made of bangus, I got curious and decided to have an order of this. I really didn’t get to taste the bangus in this embutido because I was too distracted with the raisins. I am a fan of sweet treats but I’m not fond of mixing sweet tasting fruit with any viand. Anyway, even if I weren’t able to catch any bangus flavor in it, I know I am eating the healthier embutido version — bangus embutido (P105).
Beef Mushroom Kalitiran (P110) was the bestseller on our table and I bet on other people’s table too! After having eaten Chef Ed Quimson’s creation at Mandarin Hotel, it was like knowing that the beef were subjected to several hours of cooking to ensure meat would be soft and full of taste. Better eat this while it is warm because as it gets colder, oil partices would be visible and we wouldn’t want that don’t we? But I bet it wouldn’t even stay longer on the plate as it would be devoured immediately as the beef kalitiran was good!
Beef Kaldereta with Cheese Toppings (P130). I thought I’ve tasted this somewhere — just inside the comfort of our home! This order was the last viand we ordered. Actually, this wasn’t supposed to be on our table anymore because I thought having 3 viands would be more than enough. Good thing we did get it. The beef was tender and you’d know that this was cooked for hours. Oh, and the sauce was full of taste. The secret of this was the cheese as this was the secret of ours too! One cup of rice wouldn’t be enough with the sauce alone.
Indeed, the place was a high style carinderia dining because of it’s price and of course, location. We hope they maintain the place because thiswould be a nice place to eat lunch, conduct meetings over lunch and maybe spend hours here. We do hope they’ll have a Wifi soon!
As our take home, we bought the DeliMondo’s Ranch Style Corned Beef (P100/ can) to try it out as this is one of the bestselling product.

I just came from Petra & Pilar and ordered Beef Kalitiran ’cause of what I read here. Thanks for the tip, it was yummy! *slurp!*
However, I dunno if it’s the Friday Makati rush hour lunch or just cos it’s Friday the 13th, but we had the worst service ever.
We’d already paid for our food but it took almost an hour for it to be served. No one even approached us to tell us that the food was going to be delayed, we had to follow up repeatedly with each order before they arrived — I can’t stress this enough. It was harrowing having to bug the waiters repeatedly just so we can get food that we’ve already paid for and we’ve already seen cooked and displayed in the metal warmers.
Service was really so poor and there were plenty of irate customers. I felt sorry for the waiters and Chef Ed Quimson since hungry people are angry people.
For an eatery that claims to be a sosy carinderia (keyword being Carinderia — pinoy, tasty and supposedly Quick), it really doesn’t make sense to have to wait that long just to be able to eat.
It defeats the whole sosy carinderia concept.
It’s just too bad that we had such lousy service, on our first visit yet. Though I can still probably be dragged for another visit, I can’t help but warn friends to steer clear (at least during lunch time) because of what we experienced. =(

i was also there on the 13th of june to buy take out and try out their delicacies after reading it in the inquirer.
got myself a kalitiran as take out and two types of sausages + the much talked about delmonico corned beef (i actually ate this today for dinner).
they were really at a mess that day, both the cashier and the deli person was absent and i couldn’t get a straight answer from anybody.
my take - food is overated. the corned beef is tasteless and expensive. the kalitiran’s meat was good and tender but the taste is bland.
i expected more after the hype.
my 2 cents

Hmm, I wonder if my lovable cousin Eddie Boy will tell me how to cook the Beef Kalitiran with Mushroom Sauce? My dad bought 2 kilos of Kalitiran and wants me to make Roast Beef with Mushroom Gravy Sauce. The sauce is no problem…it’s how to cook the beef! Help!
