Old Chinatown Kopitiam

All along, I thought this Kopitiam only serves coffee and some snack foods like Kopi Roti. I was wrong! They serve food all day long! From rice, noodles, soup, veggies, hawker’s classic and best food selection, and not to forget the never-ending kaya toast variations.

Jumbo Siomai (P98). AD’s choice when he saw the photo on the menu. Closest thing to a dumpling. He loves hakaw (shrimp dumpling) and can eat 2 orders of it just by himself. Yes, all by himself. I miss my ama’s siomai. Just lean pork. *Sigh*

Char Kway Teow (P228). Rice ribbon noodles with eggs, bean sprouts, bell peppers, chives and shrimps cooked the FRIED way. What?! If I’d known…I have this occasional amnesia that I tend to forget what the dish is called then remembering it upon seeing the actual dish. Honestly, I love Char Kway Teow maybe its greasiness added yumminess to it! Instead of cockles, it was cooked with shrimp.

I’m not sure if we’ve tried this when we went to Singapore last August 2006 because there is no hint of photos that we did. That food trip in Singapore gained me an extra 5 unwanted flabs.

King Fish in Spicy Meat Sauce (P248). I ordered this dish but HB liked it. He loves the spiciness of the meat sauce but I didn’t like the soily (lasang lupa) taste of the fish. Bad market day! I’m sure I’d also like this dish if it weren’t for the fish.

I told my HB that I’d want to go back and try the other dishes that looks delish (from the photos and by its name). Hopefully, when we finish off our resto list within the area, we’ll be back. That’s one drawback, dining only with your HubbyBubbly…I’m not complaining though. Next time if we have time, we should invite friends so we can order more! Order more and eat more!

Sorry, no desserts this time.  HB is on a diet!  And I have to support him…by not ordering any desserts! What a bummer! *tsk* *tsk*

I ate there and the food is only so so.

You guys should try another restaurant called “NASI LEMAK” based in 165 Tomas Morato, QC. Its opposite the McDonalds there, next to Office Warehouse.

I am a Malaysian, my friend and I visited the NASI LEMAK restaurant last night (4/21/08) and we ask for more sambal/blachan and added chillis in the stir fried Kang Kong, and this is the first time I tasted Kang Kong Blachan so good in the Phils. Thanks to Nasi Lemak staff who are so eager to please their customers.

We also ate Kueh Pai Ti (Appetiser), Hainanese Chicken, Malaysian Chicken Curry, Nasi Goreng, and Kueh Talam for dessert. They were real good. Hainanese Chicken chilli taste real good, like you are back home!

I will certainly ask all my Malaysian friends to come here and support the restaurant. I have been to many so called Malaysian/Singaporean restaurants in Metro Manila and this is the most authentic Malaysian/Singaporean restaurant in Metro manila.

They in NASI LEMAK know what they need to cook, there is someone in the restaurant who knows how to cook real authentic food and knows the tastes well.
