Tootsie’s Patootsie
I was intrigued with Tootsie’s when we passedby this restaurant one January evening as we were on our way home. It was already late and the place was still all lit up! To add to our curiosity, a reader has also tipped about this restaurant that serve eclectic dishes and so, Tootsie’s became part of our must-see and must-go list.
To warm ourselves from the windy day, we decided to try their…
Pancit Molo (P334+, one of their house specialties). As described on their menu, it was cooked on a traditional way with the freshest ingredients - live shrimp, native chicken…from Lola marina’s recipe, improved by Carol, our cook and special favorite of our dad, Valentin. Always copied but never duplicated!
Indeed, it was a unique kind of soup. When I saw the native chicken meat, I suddenly remembered my childhood days (oh yes! Ratatouille) when my Ama would cook for us and would convince us eat this because it is good for us. Good thing, it doesn’t taste like it! The live shrimp’s (but I think it was hebi) taste stood out so the soup was a bit on the sweet side. The native chicken added taste and texture to the soup. There were at least 10 pcs dumplings per order. Nice to have on a cold and windy day.
Another specialty of the house is the…
Pancit Buko (P173+), stir fried chinese noodles sauteed with fresh vegetables and buko slivers.
Oopps! This was too sweet for me. It was actually weird for a dish to taste too sweet. I know I’m fond of dishes on the sweeter side but this was too much. The buko juice they used was too sweet. The presentation was nice but it kinda deceived me because the serving was not worth the price.
Tinoyong Bangus (P235+), Fried Batangas boneless bangus marinated in soy sauce and calamansi, another family favorite.
I don’t know what made us order this because this is similar to what I cook at home except for the fried part. If the noodle dish was sweet, then this was the exact opposite! Too salty! I know, I know it is because of the soy sauce and calamansi but darn! I didn’t like it one bit BUT we had to finish it off because I don’t want to waste food. I just ate more rice to tone down the saltiness of the fish. Good thing that the belly was fat enough but then bangus was not even boneless!
No dessert for us this time because we accidentally ordered a meat dish and it was supposed to be a meatless Friday!
Savings: As of 15th of February, they were still on a dry run phase and has been offering a 10% off the total bill.
Suggestion: Clean up the place especially the ceiling.
Verdict: I would still give them a chance and visit them again but not soon.
I liked that they had a sofa there because it was where we placed JX while we were having lunch.

We just visited Tootsies last March 7 for my hubby’s birthday.. sadly we were disappointed with the food. The Crispy pata seems ” fried” like liempo only. However their Kare-Kare is okay.. or maybe I am just hungry then and no choice but to choose who’s the lesser evil between the food that we ordered =0. The ambiance then was laid back and relaxed.. since were the only ones dining at that time.. Love the utensils, fixtures and country touch ups in the resto. Not to mention what I got fascinated of was their restroom! it was clean, nice, complete, calming and cold =).. well did I mention more of their fixtures than that of their food? still needs a lot of improvement for the food. A bit pricey for nothing unusual orders.
