Go! Baby Lingo!

We have decided to join the Baby Lingo workshop as early as now even if JX is only 10 weeks old and because of our availability. So? What is the connection? Well, here me out first…

Baby Lingo? What is that? Baby Lingo Bingo?

Baby Lingo-4

Baby Lingo is a baby sign language workshop where they teach you and you teach your baby the signs to understand each other. As early as 6 months, your baby knows what he wants and he’d tell you if only he could talk BUT he’s going to have to wait for another six months or so before he can speak and a year more before he can tackle more complex words. Isn’t that just too long to wait just to express your feelings? And so, this is where the baby lingo comes in. As early as six months, you and your baby can ‘talk’ to each other and share their feelings and thoughts with you. Won’t that just be great?! You and your baby can now create conversations? COOL!

Who can join this workshop?

Parents with children from 6 to 24 month old. It is never too late to teach your children the baby signs even they are already 8 or 10 months old. Babies are different from each other so not all babies would sign right after you teach them. Age would be a factor how fast the babies will learn how to sign and pick it up to ‘talk’ to you. Baby signs is for everyone. Actually, this was developed for hearing babies and hearing parents. However, it is also useful with deaf and hearing-impaired children as it is based on established sign language. Child behaviour experts also recommend it for use with special needs children.

Also, in this workshop, Filipino Sign Language (FSL) has been incorparated with some of the signs along with the American Sign Language (ASL). Are you familiar with the FSL? If not, let me refresh you….AD goes to this Starfall site often for his ABC dose. Doesn’t it look familiar? It does to me because we learned this in our high school days! Don’t ask me when was that!

What do I get out of this?

  • Reduces frustration for YOU and your baby! No guessing game! Instead of waking up because your baby is shrieking early in the morning, she would just tap you and sign the ‘milk’. Isn’t that a nice way to wake up in the morning? I’m sure that will put a smile in your face and wish that you had your video camera with you.
  • Empowers your baby to clearly communicate specific thoughts, gives you a window into your baby’s mind and personality. Cool!
  • ACCELERATES verbal language development not DELAY. This was also my concern but research shows that babies who sign usually start to talk sooner and develop larger vocabularies than non-signing babies! The longest running research study available has shown that, even at the age of eight, they’ll still be significantly ahead of their classmates. See?
  • Boosts baby’s self-esteem.
  • Enhances bonding with parents and baby. Just great!
  • Increases your baby’s IQ. Don’t we all moms out there want this?
  • Spells F-U-N! Double fun because now, AD can also teach JX how to sign.

What first THREE signs will I teach JX being a second-time mom? Can you guess?

It would be MILK, EAT and MORE! If AD had learned the signs, I’m sure these would be his favorite signs.

Oh, by the way, this is only a one-time three-(3) hour workshop. You can bring your husband, yaya and even your parents to encourage them that this is the way to go!

Side story, I had fun with this workshop. We played games to break the ice and met new friends…Alex & Zara, Sookie & Dondi, and oh no! 3 more ladies whose names I suddenly forgot! I’m sorry ladies…but I do remember your faces! Oh and the snack was yummy! Go donuts! AD had two of those! (Yes, you can bring your kids. But no, we didn’t bring JX.)

Would I recommend these to parents?

I would say YES. Even if I haven’t seen the results on JX, I know it would work! (Positive thinking! wink wink)! Wish we’d knew about this when AD was born…Jaymie was already teaching Baby Lingo as early as year 2004. Anyway, I would surely update you come 10 months if it really worked for JX.

Hi Rache, thanks for the feature! I’m glad to hear you’re starting to teach JX how to sign. Yes, definitely he’ll be signing as long as you, Anton and even AD consistently teach him the signs. Keep me posted on how you progress! It’ll definitely be worth the wait when you see JX’s first sign :)
