Everyone and their dog and their dog’s pet goldfish knows that I missed out on the Christmas event…

because I emo-ed to everyone who would listen  and probably everyone who doesnt want to listen anymore too   o^_^o

So this time I was super determined to be ready to be right there when HKO goes online. This means downloading the client all over again and reinstalling HKO. 

Sounds simple right?

I downloaded HKO using the torrent. (i use limewire) It was nice simple and easy. I clicked a couple a times and it started downloading, I left it for an hour and when I came back it was all downloaded. Too Easy… =)

SO I tried to install it. But when I tried to get the setup.exe application file to run, it wouldn’t run! BOO! I tried a few things and finally after a couple of hours of surfing and tweaking the file I found I had to save it to my desktop, and change the compatibility to run as a windows xp compatible file before my computer would deign to even open the file.  I also had to play around with the windows vista AUC security a little but I don’t remember exactly what I did.

 Hmm….

So it started running. And a little way into the setup, it gave some ‘file corrupt’ thing error.

 Hampeh….. 

So I thought maybe the file I downloaded off torrent was corrupt. So I decided to go for the download manager instead. And started running the download manager…  this takes longer than torrent, and it halted a couple of times. I had to close it, then reopen it and it would start re-downloading.

when it reached about 70%….

my computer crashed!!!!!!!!!!!!! >_<

fortunately smellycat from across the road was hanging out at my place, so there was someone for me to…… share my troubles with.

(NO I DIDNT SWEAR!!)

so I restarted my computer. went through the setup checks.  and tried AGAIN. Fortunately I could pick up from where I left off (at 70%).

Finally after having to open and close the download manager a few times the whole thing was downloaded.

So I tried to run the setup file… -_-  And and and the same thing happened. except the corruptness was on another file (MapG_ID_07 or something).

I was starting to get tulan… so I did something silly and tried to rerun the setup. this time it got past MapG_ID_07 before it hit another corrupt patch. I had to close it and rerun setup about 5  times before it finally installed the whole thing.

But finally it was installed!!!  And I tried to run the file and it. wouldn’t. run.

I had to tweak the file again. Change the compatibility. And I find that I can’t run it off a shortcut. Windows Vista would just run the AUC and when I allow the program it just shuts it if I do so. I DON”T KNOW WHY

But I think I am all set now. Although it’s a little annoying to have to get into program files to run HKO from there instead from a shortcut off the desktop but.. *shrugs*. I really hope this is the end of my troubles

Anyway, the learnings I want to pass on to people who are downloading and installing from scratch who Might be having similar problems are :

 -Windows vista AUC is a pain. you may have to change the security settings, compatibility settings of your file, and where you run your file from.

 -you may seem to hit a few corrupt patches along the way when setting up. but if you keep closing it and re-running setup you will eventually get there

-downloading from a torrent is way faster than via download manager (and i like it better)

-download manager seems to stop downloading if i leave the computer alone for some time. I don’t know why.

- dont buy Dell laptops.

- i mean it. dont buy Dell laptops!
