Holistic dog food

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

koffeeMy pet Koffee has not been eating much the past few weeks. It seems like his bowl always has some leftovers and other times, he would seem totally uninterested with the food. I only give him dog food because it’s the easiest for me to prepare and for consistency - I heard that some pets get picky and only eat certain favorite foods. But now i’m thinking, could the food be boring him? He has been eating Holistic Recipe’s Lamb and Rice with Green tea for a few months now. I was so tempted to go out and buy him some of the more “tasty” (and more expensive) dog food like eukanuba, science diet or royal canin, but finally decided against it because of the price and the smell of the you-know-what after he eats other dog food. Also, the main reason why I chose to give Koffee Holistic in the first place was because I believe that it would be healthier for him and it’s not as expensive as the other holistic brands like the one from Fromm Family Recently, I heard that Ellen Degenres is also endorsing a new holistic dog food called Halo.

Oh, going back to Koffee… I made sure to give him his deworming meds to make sure that he isn’t sick with some parasite and then I tried to trick him into taking some vitamins by coating some of his fav treats with it and i think it helped a bit. At least he is getting some energy from the vitamins and hopefully it would also increase his appetite. Nowadays, i notice that there are still some leftovers in his bowl but whenever i sit down and watch him, he would walk over to his bowl and finish it up. Could it be that he is just asking for attention? :( I haven’t been spending much time with him… with all the school, work and other activities lately.

Hello kitty pet carrier

Monday, October 1st, 2007

My pet Koffee had been stuck at home for a couple of weeks now because I have been so busy and haven’t had the chance to take him out to “socialize”. Just when I was telling myself I need to bring him out this coming weekend, I saw this cute Hello Kitty pet bag!! It even has a cute Hello Kitty cut-out portion where you can check your little pet  and give proper ventilation. :)

He doesn’t like the neighborhood cats too much. If i do get one, I hope my dog likes the bag…(hey, it’s hello kitty!)

Pet Fashion Week 2007- New York

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

It’s been a rainy/stormy few days here and I decided to give Koffee back his old blanket. He’s been sneezing lately and might be getting a bad cold, with the cooler weather and his new shorter fur cut and all. I took it away from him when he was pup because he kept gnawing on it which had small tassle-like ends.

Does’t he look cute with that banket? Made me think about getting him a nicer looking outfit for his walks. That’s when I happened upon this interesting bit - there’s a Pet Fashion Week ‘07 on Aug. 18 - 19, 2007 in New York! Have a look at Pupstyle.com; the official online sponsor for PFW ‘07. They show a preview of cute outfits for your pets for PFW!

I don’t t think any of the outfits on Pupstyle would look good on Koffee because they seem more suitable for winter or colder climates. They also cost a bundle!! The search for the best Koffee outfit continues!

Koffee’s cut

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Hi Everyone! It’s been a while since my last post. I’ve just been really busy with a lot of things: work, studies, health issues, etc. I also haven’t spent much time with my pet shih tzu; Koffee. Since I’m not home most of the time and usually too tired to spend much play time with him when I get home (around 10PM), I noticed that he’s being indifferent towards me. He still gets excited when he sees me, but he does not come when I call him nor does he hang around with me much.

My first few attempts at cutting fur- see his mustache? teehee..

I had planned to get Koffee groomed last Saturday. Some of his fur had become matted… and I had given him a nice fur-cut … but only on his head! LOFL. So he had a small trimmed head… on a fluffy body. He looked a bit weird.

Just as I was rushing to the pet-grooming center to drop him off before going to work, all the shops were still closed! I had to get to work for a meeting so I had to bring him to work. He seems to have enjoyed the change in scenery. He patiently waited for me while I spent almost the whole day in the office. I was quite proud of how he behaved.

On the way home, I dropped him off at the pet-grooming salon where he got bathed, cleaned, nail cut and a nice puppy cut.

Tada! He looks proportioned now and seems quite happy with his new cut. He is more active now and also seem to have overcome his indifference towards me after the “quality time” last weekend.

Koffee - 14 weeks old

From wikipedia:

The Shih Tzu breed and The Imperial Shih Tzu ,or lion dog is characterized by its long flowing double coat; sturdy build; intelligence; and a friendly, lively attitude. In breeding all coat colors are allowed. The Shih Tzu’s hair can be styled either in a short summer cut, or kept long as is compulsory for

conformation shows. They are reputed to be a hypoallergenic pet. Although owners do not generally find hair on furniture or clothes, Shih Tzu’s do shed small amounts.Although generally outgoing and friendly, the Shih Tzu definitely has an attitude that cries to be spoiled. However, poorly bred dogs of the breed can be excitable, noisy, and snappy. Shih Tzus will almost literally do anything for food and look for any kind of chance to eat something other than just dog food. Though Shih Tzu are generally good with children, they become easily jealous of babies and toddlers. Poorly bred ones may snap if bothered by rambunctious children. Well-bred Shih Tzu are, as the Breed Standard calls for, affectionate to all people and should never show aggression to people or children. Because they are small, they can be injured by small children, and therefore are better suited for older children, particularly those who enjoy combing his hair.Shih Tzus are intelligent, and can be trained for obedience competitions and for good manners around the home. They can be stubborn, so persistence and consistency are definite pluses in training methods. Punishment makes this dog shut down, so training should also be low-key and motivational.
