Enough love to go around…

6-day-old canine at animal shelter was rejected by its mother

MERIDEN, Conn. - Who says cats and dogs don’t get along?

Workers at the Meriden Humane Society are marveling at a short-haired mother cat that has adopted a 6-day-old Rottweiler puppy that was rejected by its mother.

The tiny pup, named Charlie by Humane Society volunteers, nurses alongside a jumble of black and gray kittens recently born to Satin, who was taken to the shelter by an owner unable to care for her.

Charlie’s mother was found by the side of the road in Meriden a couple of months ago. She gave birth to two puppies, but one was stillborn. As sometimes happens with a stillborn in the litter, the mother refused to accept Charlie.

Does he love me?
I wanna know!
How can I tell if he loves me so?

(Is it in his eyes?)
Oh no! You need to see!
(Is it in his size?)
Oh no! You make believe!
If you wanna know
If he loves you so
Its in his kiss!
(That’s where it is!)

Pit bull scarfs down $5,000 wedding ring

Friday, February 9th, 2007

RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Here is a dog with expensive taste: A pit bull ate its owner’s $5,000 wedding ring before being made to throw it up again. Tina Burlett had thought someone broke into her house and stole the custom-made ring. But her grandmother suspected the family dog, Missy.

X-rays showed she was right.

“I couldn’t believe it,” Burlett told The Monroe Evening News. “I didn’t think so at the time, but it’s funny now.”

Missy has been caught gnawing on VCRs, electric blankets and even Burlett’s diamond earring.

“I did have a dog eat a watch once,” said Dr. Linda Fung of the Country Creek Animal Hospital. “Animals swallow a lot of stuff. It’s not an unusual thing. We just made her throw it up.”

I think the doggie was just jealous… didn’t want the wedding to push through. :)

goblin shark

TOKYO (AFP) - A goblin shark — a rarely seen species often called a “living fossil” — was caught alive in Tokyo Bay but died after being put on display, an aquarium said.

The grey, long-nosed shark was caught in fishermen’s nets around 150 to 200 metres (500 to 650 feet) deep. It was discovered by officials of the Tokyo Sea Life Park when they took a boat with local fishermen on January 25.

“We were able to bring it to the aquarium alive and show it to the public,” said an official at the park.

But the shark died on the morning of January 27.

“Dead goblin sharks are caught from time to time, but it is rarely seen alive. We were able to document the way the shark swims. After it died, we dissected the specimen for further studies,” he said.

The shark was about 1.3 metres long.

Resembling pre-historic sharks, goblin sharks live on deep sea bottoms. Little is known about their lives.
