But it was a dark and drizzly day, so I thought I’d take my chance and see if I could get a ticket even without a reservation! My new found friend Rizalene actually had a ticket for November 7, courtesy of her dad, which she generously gave to me, but I had an article due for the Philippine Star (watch out for it next Sunday!) so I needed to go to the exhibit at the earliest possible time!

Turned out to be my lucky day! I went to the stand-by line, and in less than a minute, got a ticket for the 4 PM slot! Woohoo!

I mean, most girls would want a little something from Chanel right? But what if you get something Chanel for free? Like a ticket to this…the Chanel Mobile Art exhibit in Central Park?

Any guesses what this is all about?

Well, according to the leaflet, “A page from a Winnie the Pooh coloring book featuring Pooh’s companion Piglet was the genesis of Coloring Book. Koons took a magic marker to the page and colored in various zones; in the fabrication of the sculpture, he removed Piglet from the composition, which resulted in this abstraction rendered in cheerful pastel colors.”

Did you guess it right?

Next up is another balloon-like creation called Sacred Heart, which looks like a heart wrapped as a gift! As described in the leaflet “with its sumptuous surfaces of wrapping and ribbon, may suggest childhood - as well as adult - dreams and fantasies about candy and luxury goods, intermixed with the potent Roman Catholic image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.”

This was made from 1994-2007 and is again made from high chromium stainless steel with transparent color coating. It is 140.5 x 86 x 47 5/8 in. in size and is quite huge as seen behind the lady having her picture taken with it!

This belongs to the Steven and Alexandra Cohen collection, and if this means this is part of a private collection, then I can just imagine the size of the Cohen’s home! Ha!

For perspective, here I am right beside it! Heehee!

Amazing huh? According to the leaflet, and as if to confirm my initial impression, this is “based on balloons twisted into the shape of a toy dog. Standing more than 10 feet tall, its highly reflective and brightly colored surface gives the appearance of an actual balloon in a form that wold delight a child but would also fascinate any student of Freud.”

Let me introduce you first to Jeff Koons, an American artist known for his work in contemporary art. He has been compared to Andy Warhol, and for good reason! He makes art look fun and as he has often stated, for his art “to communicate with as broad an audience as possible”. In the next three posts, I will be showing you why his art appeals to both young and old, any gender, and any nationality for that matter!

The Constance Billard and St. Jude’s School for Boys is actually a Russian Orthodox Synod of Bishops, located at 75 E 93rd St., NY, NY 10128. This is how it looks in real life. But get a couple of school kids dressed in GG uniforms, and the Synod becomes the place we are all familiar with, right?
