This is why I love going to Target! I always find something there that never fails to surprise me! Lots of cute stuff that are well made too! Not to mention, reasonably priced! Real value for money!

Here’s a closer shot of these kiddie must haves!

Let’s start with a cute long sleeved tee with Hello Kitty embossed in metallic appliques!

MJ’s Disco Dancing Shoes…

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

….Made for a Spanish peasant who wants to dance the Crazy Chicken during the baile. It’s their town’s fiesta, if you care to know! Hehehe!

dsc03866.JPG

I wonder what Mr. Jacobs was thinking when he designed this shoe? I mean come one, yeah his name was once Mark Silver, before he changed it to Jacobs…but this is just so…GOLD! I wouldn’t buy it, even if retailed for $5.

Would you?

Fashion Institute of Technology

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

For those who want to study fashion and don’t want to pay the Parsons price, New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is your best bet!

dsc03814.JPG

Because they are a public institution (State University of New York’s college of art, design, business and technology), the tuition is comparably lower to that of private colleges. However, in terms of the quality of education, FIT is world class! Students from around the world converge in this school to study fashion and the arts.

However, if you love fashion but are not that serious about it enough to study it, check out The Museum at FIT. It has one of the world’s largest and most important collections of clothing, textiles, and accessories. According to Wikipedia, “The Costume Department includes 50,000 garments and accessories dating from the 18th century to the present. The Textile Department includes 30,000 textiles dating from the 5th century to the present as well as 250,000 textile swatches and 1,300 sample books from all over the world. The museum has three galleries and maintains an active schedule of exhibitions relevant to fashion and related industries.”

Best of all, exhibitions are free to the public!

FIT’s urban campus is located in Manhattan, on 27th Street from Seventh Avenue to Eighth Avenue. Very near the Fashion District!

A little bit of trivia: Nina Garcia and Carolina Herrera are FIT alums!

Pinkberry

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

My sister-in-law Lorr is a serious foodie. When she visited us in New York, part of the itinerary was to visit food places that she has heard of and were deemed “must trys”.

So we “discovered” this place! Pinkberry! The name alone is so cute by itself!

dsc03283.JPG
Best of all, their yogurt  cups were indeed a cupful of healthy, swirly goodness!

dsc03289.JPG
A Pinkberry dessert is “honest food, without preservatives, additives or excess sugar. It is dessert reinvented.”  And I wholeheartedly agree! The frozen yogurt still has that sour but yummy yogurt-y taste and the fruits — oh so fresh! A healthy snack in a cup!

With 7 locations across New York, and a lot more in California, you can get your daily dose of Pinkberry’s at your nearest convenience, should you be in either side of the coast!

Kiehl’s “Mango” Bath and Shower Liquid Body Cleanser

Monday, November 26th, 2007

Here I am again raving about Kiehls! Is it so obvious I love their stuff?

I just wanted to share with you a favorite body cleanser of mine!

kiehls.jpg

Described in the Kiehl’s website as “A refreshing, gentle, yet effective cleanser for the body. Formulated with humectants to help skin maintain its moisture. Used in the shower or bath, our formula leaves skin clean with a lovely texture.”, I cannot agree more!

My skin really does feel so smooth and moisturized after a shower. Plus, I don’t have to use so much! I pour just enough to fit the cupped palm of my hand and its enough to do the trick. While other liquid or gel cleansers require that I pour a whole lot to make a sufficient lather, this one does not require extra helpings, at all!

I’ve tried the Mango scent and it is so fruitilicious!

An 8.4 fl. oz bottle retails for $15.50, but it’s super worth every drop!

Betsey Johnson Take Me To The Prom!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

If I were going to The Prom, I would make sure my dress would be from Betsey Johnson!

It’s just so young and so fun, I’d feel like a ballerina and a princess in one! I’d be having so much fun, I wouldn’t care if my date was a nerdy dude whose mom just happened to be friends with my mom!

In my opinion, high school girls should enjoy their youth. That is not the time to go and dress all sexy and mature. There will be a time for that, I mean, you will grow old eventually! Just have fun and enjoy being a girl! Because when you get to my age, you’d want to look and stay young forever!

Consider this a nugget of wisdom from an “elder”… ;-)

Hello Kitty Watches by Kimora Lee Simmons

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

For those who missed out on the Hello Kitty watch in your youth…

hk.jpg

Now these are what I call the grown-up version!

These stainless steel and diamond watches are Neiman Marcus exclusives. The one on top is made with pink sapphire on patent leather strap and retails for $1,995. The watch in the middle has a stainless steel bracelet with mother-of-pearl dial and pink sapphire and will set your daddy back $3,550. The one at the bottom has a white ceramic bracelet with mother-of-pearl dial. A little bit cheaper at $2,900.

Who says Hello Kitty is just for kids?

Here’s the mecca for all those who love M&Ms! M&Ms World is the world’s largest retail and entertainment complex dedicated to everything M&M’S®, and they have a store right here in Times Square!

As you go inside, you’ll be barraged with everything M&M, from sweatshirts to wallets, to keychains and bags.dsc03651-1.JPG

But just when you thought this was just an M&M gift shop, wait until you reach the top floor!

“The store features more than one million milk chocolate and peanut M&M’s, a Blue character posed dancing to Saturday Night Fever, a 21-foot-tall Miss Green M&M’s version of the Statue of Liberty and an M&M’s color mood analyzer that determines which candy color best suits visitors’ daily moods.”

True M&M connoisseurs will especially love the fact that they can custom-blend color mixes, selecting from 22 colors!!!

Hmmm, I want mine to be all shades of pinks and blues please! With little bits of yellow, plus maybe one or two reds? =)

Brownies from Billy’s Bakery

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

dsc03820.JPG

If you’re in the mood for some luscious brownies, there’s no place to go but Billy’s Bakery!!! It’s so moist and cake-y, every bite is such a delight!

dsc03824.JPG

While you’re at it! Try the cupcakes too!

dsc03822.JPG

dsc03834.JPG

Pssst, between you and me, this is better than Magnolia Bakery’s! It may not look as attractive, but each cupcake has that home baked goodness to it! Yum Yum!

I especially love that they operate it like a neighborhood bakeshop, nothing like a big bad corporate creature in the City. Let’s put it this way, my sister-in-law didn’t have enough change so she offered to pay using a $100 bill plus two dollar bills - for one cupcake and a brownie. Guess what! They gave me the brownie for free!!! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Billy’s Bakery is located on the east side of 9th Avenue between 21st and 22nd street in Manhattan.

Magnolia Bakery

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Tucked in a corner of Bleecker Street is the famous Magnolia Bakery…

dsc03303.JPG

A West Village institution, their cupcakes are very popular with both New Yorkers and tourists - - it practically has a cult following!  It is not uncommon to see a line of eager customers, who can’t wait to sink their teeth into a sugarload of sweet and pretty cupcakes!

dsc03307.JPG

My verdict? You have to eat these right away! It’s so good while fresh, but gets sickeningly sweet when you let it sit for a while! But still, a must try for visiting guests who want a taste of a slice of the Big Apple! (Hehehe!)

The must try in my book, is their Banana Pudding! Oh my gosh! Words cannot describe the burst of vanilla and banana together with the spongy  cake that truly melts in your mouth! Now this one, I will keep on coming back for!

dsc03309.JPG

This is one of the best desserts I have ever tried!!! Ever!!!
