have been watching the “yu dan” show faithfully every tues. i think its a very interesting show and it never fails to give me a new light to life every time i finish watching. and most importantly, its in chinese! hahaz.. ok. i know i’m weird. anyway, 3 of the stories had a lasting impression on me and decide to blog about it.
the first story:
its abt 2 siblings live on the 80th floor of an apartment. one day, they went home together and found that the lift has broken down and they have no way up except the stairs. so both them slowly climbed up the stairs.
reaching the 20th floor, they find that the bags they are carrying are too heavy and it will be a burden to carry it. so they decided to leave it on the 20th floor and go back to retrieve it when the lift is repaired. after putting their bag down, they continued to climb up the stairs.
at the 40th floor, the siblings got really annoyed and started blaming each other. “you lah, took so long juz now. if we came back earlier, we would have taken the lift up” “why we stay so high. if we know we stay lower” etc etc. so they quarreled their way up.
at the 60th floor, they finally got tired and stopped quarreling and blaming each other and quietly conserve their energy to finish climbing the last 20 stories.
finally reaching the 80th floor, they are feel a sense of satisfaction as they looked at their door. but one common thought struck them at the same time. they have left their house key when they left their bags at the 20th floor.
this story talks about our life. we have no choice but to have education and go to school and stuff. till we reach our twenties, we think that wadeva we have are burdens. our dreams, our families, hopes that are pinned on us blah blah blah are only burdens in our lives so we decide to discard them. till we reach 40, we start blaming everyone possible. we blame the society for the way we are treated, we blame our parents for not teaching us this, we blame our children for having to spend extra money, we blame our boss and everybody. but not ourselves. we think that the society owes us all and we deserve to have wad we think we ought to have. at age 60, we become tired and start accepting wad life has given us and continue to move on with life, we accept that our end is near. at our final phase of life, we are satisfied but at the very very last moment of our life, we discover that the most important thing ((our dreams, our supposed life we are supposed to live)) are left behind at such a young age. hopes that are pinned on us, dreams that we dared to dream but not daring enough to chase are all left behind by wad we thought were burdens at that age.
the 2 below are about how one image or scenario have such a different impact on different ppl.
there was once a spider climbing a wall. it was climbing climbing and then he reached a wet spot on the wall. it climbed through but slipped and fall to its original place. but it picked itself up, and climbed through the same route again. of cuz, it reached the wet spot and once again, slipped and fell back to original spot. it kept picking itself up and climbing to the same spot and fell back and picked itself up again.
this particular scene was witnessed by 3 different ppl. and at once, these 3 reflected the scene on their own lives.
the 1st person thought. “my life is like that, walking around aimlessly, doing everything fruitlessly and its not productive at all. this spider portrays exactly wad my life is going through now.
the 2nd person thought. “oh.. life is actually not very tough. this puddle of water is not very huge. it the spider can take a step back, look at the puddle and figure how to go about the puddle instead of keep walking back to the same spot, i’m sure it will be able to reach the top very very soon. Life’s like that. we have to take detours sometimes and not everything is about going straight. we must learn to look at the bigger picture.”
the 3rd person thought. “wow. wad strong determination this spider has. it keeps picking itself up and trying trying without any hint of discourage. if an insect can have this kind of determination, imagine wad miracles would a person create if he has the same amount of determination. i must learn from this spider.”
how true. the way we think is hugely affected by our lives. if our lives are in constant aimless walks, wadeva we see, we see them as aimless non-productive opportunities and journeys. if we have been very positive, we see the spider as having the same kind of positive even though we dunno how the spider thinks.
this story below is very interesting. hahaz.. pls tell me how you feel after reading (if you ever read finish lah. that is. hahaz.. )
there was once this scholar who was abt to take his imperial examination. now imperial examinations are very important at that period of time. so of cuz, he was very worried abt it. 2 nights before, he dreamt of 3 dreams. the first dream was abt him planting cabbages on a very high wall. the second dream was abt him wearing a bamboo hat and carrying an umbrella when it was raining. the last dream was abt him lying on a bed back to back with the women he loves most.
now, he was very puzzled abt the meaning of the 3 dreams and was very sure they had something to do with the imperial exams he was abt to have. so he decide to consult a master who is very knowledgeable abt all these.
the master listened and said. the first dream, planting cabbages on a high wall, means its virtually impossible. second dream of carrying an umbrella when you have a hat out on rainy day means its unnecessary. the last dream abt lying back to back when you are already lying on the same bed means that you are in denial of wad is given to you. all these are bad omens and the master asked him not to take the examinations. so he guai guai listened and go back pack bag go back to his hometown.
the innkeeper saw him and asked him why he wanna go home without taking the exams. he related the story abt how he had 3 dreams and they are all bad omens. the innkeeper then replied, “i’m also an interpreter of dreams and i think your dreams are good signs.”
he said the first dream of you planting cabbages on a high wall means you have high aspirations and hopes and dare to dream. the second dream abt you brining an umbrella and wearing a hat means you are well prepared in wadeva circumstances. the last dream means that you are able to “fan shen” ((meaning to turn your back à meaing able to pick up from failure to success)).
hearing all these, the scholar decided to go for the examinations and yah. ending expected. hahaz.. he scored loh. hahahahaha..
anyway. i myself love stories espically those very meaningful ones. i love to watch yu dan as she really talks abt how we think and the meanings in life. i wanted to write in my diary but its toooooooooooo long. hahaz.. i typed this for one hour leh. hahaz.. if i have to write this out, think will take abt 4 hrs. hahaz.. typing is soooo much faster. a lot of times
oh. she also mentioned abt suicide. there are 2 kinds. one is to fling yourself from a very high floor and the other, is to do something which has no value. example if you are not happie doing wad you are doing, you are killing yourself mentally. giving yourself too much stress, not doing wad you wan, little by little, your soul will give way. leading to emotional suicide. SO SMILE AND ENJOY LIFE!!!!!! hahahahahaah.. ((ask me out. =) wahahahahahahahaha.))
i hope that you all enjoyed and understood the lesson behind all these little little stories. =). hahaz..
