Casual Gamers… No, I don’t have anything against them, personally; most of my female friends are casual gamers… insfact, onlyy two or three like to spends hours trying to clear a dungeon or get the best weapon in the game or write blogs about their poor, uninteresting lives…
But if there’s one thing that I will gladly blame them for was building a whole market around games that serve absolutely no purpose, also knows as mini-games. As a proper gamer, I have to say that I don’t mind “quick-time events” (QTEs) if they’re ocasionally a part of gameplay but when you make entire games out of correctly mashing set combiationof buttons or performing the same action over and over again, with variations and increase difficulty each time. Of course, I blame the Wii, because I always blame the Wii for everything that goes wrong in the gaming industry…
Where am I going with this? Glad you ask because I feel I cannot delay this any longer. HKO has minigames. Mind you, they’re not bad… wish Wii Sports Resort had at least the minimal amount of story that the HKO minigames have. But why minigames? Out of all things, why?!? Are you low on ideas? here’s one: how about in every end-map there’s a particular monster that you must defeat, but cannot be “put to sleep” like normal. Instead, you have to find a way to make it happy; wither by crafting a nice cup of chocolate milk or maybe by giving him a teddy bear. And for course, you find clues on what to do by talking to characters and figuring out the mystery. How’s that for a boss character?
But no, instead every so often, we have to play a minigame to finnish a quest and I only do this once, get the score needed and then run from them. I have to say, until now there was only one minigame that I liked and only because it beared a stricking similarity to Dance Dance Revolution. And then there’s the score. Good, grief, someone actually got more than 300000 points in a minigame?!?! Everyone hail the casual gamer greek!!!

Ooh, you don’t like HKO do you!?! :p
Still in Dream Carnival?
Once out of there there are hardly any mini-games although they are there, you dont HAVE TO play them. But I too am surprised how many people do hang around there playing them and chatting in little groups. I guess everyone has their preferences. I prefer hitting the monsters for loot and gathering and crafting things. And of course helping the new players… so many are clueless, just like I was in the beginning! Hope you stick to it and wait till you get past the Carnival and even Sanrio Harbour, after that it gets better, trust!

Uhm, nemo, there are some (at about 10) minigames imbedded in quests you WILL have to beat to get on with the game-advancement on the mainland. You also have to beat the happy-builder-minigame to be able to build a house. The gameplay gets different on Sanrio Land, yes. But is this really better than the Dream-Carnival? Linear quests, aggressive creatures in every area, much much grinding, searching, hunting for thousands of raw materials and drops, feeding & petting your pet every few minutes - let’s see how much of a “serious gamer” Lumychan really is

Okay, allow me to start off with a great big “This game wasnt only made for YOU. ”
Some mini games you play during quests, yes, but i personally beleive they are nice, and a nice change from gathering a lot for so long, like a nice break. And guess what? Some people, besides yourself, like minigames! HKO is just putting out something for everyone, it isnt a matter of running out of ideas. After quests and house, you dont HAVE to sit around playing minigames, just go do someting else. those who like minigames, CAN play them. so theres something for everyone.
The boss at the end of the map idea is good. they do already have something a LITTLE like that. where you have to fight kimodo lizard and whatnot. But really. Also, please don’t blame the wii, again, it wasn’t made just for you.
Sorry if I come across as rude, but facts are facts.

@Eveaustria: ^_^ hehe…
Yeah, I suppose we shall see!
I’m only in Florapolis now, not in London yet so I havent had to play the minigames as such, only one or 2 in the Harbour… not too bad.
And like Pixie says, it’s a nice change of scenery for some people. I dont love the mini-games, but they dont last long so I dont mind.
I like gathering, looting and crafting - and most of all I do it in a group with others of the same level and we share the loot, its more fun that way and quests go by faster!
I guess HKO really does have something for everyone…
